Longing for the old ways.

Not that I will ever go back to eating mindlessly 24/7, but there are those times that I really miss how I used to eat. I don’t know if it’s the cooler weather and the “better fatten up, winter’s coming” ancestral genes at work or what.

I was thinking about those eggnog truffles I mentioned the other day. I didn’t buy any, and there is a small part of me that wishes I could just have bought them and eaten them, because I wanted them. And that same me would also have bought some moose munch, and whatever other thing sounded good, and proceeded to eat them – portion size be damned. Then would have happily gotten coffee with a treat later.

I don’t know why I miss that. I certainly don’t want to be like that again, size wise or mentality wise. Maybe it’s because I just really like food. I really like the food I eat now, but I also really like some of that other stuff I used to eat.

I feel this way too. I just want to eat what I want, even if it is all crap, and not feel bad about it. I think that is what I miss – not feeling bad/guilty.

This is one of the major reasons I chose to follow Weight Watchers. For me personally, if I deny myself something that I really want to eat, I’ll just eat everything else to compensate it. And then it’s an endless cycle until I eat what I was originally craving.

So if I really want it, I eat a small portion and count my points. I know that this is the only way that I will be able to do this for the rest of my life.

But, I also realize that each of us has to do what is best for us. Some people do have to stay away from trigger foods. I, on the other hand, can’t. It will just do me more harm than good.

Good luck to you. I know your struggle all too well.

    I hear ya!

It’s late November and I haven’t had a smidgen of candy cane ice cream or English butter fudge. Totally unlike the tubs and bags I would have consumed by now this time last year.

There have been moments when I’d like to be able to say “points be damned!” but I don’t. And I won’t.

it is a daily struggle huh? and for me there would be more than (are more than) a few things where I wouldnt WANT a tiny portion…oreos or cadbury.

    big victory not buying.
it’s one day at a time huh?
