Self Magazine… grrrr….

I was flipping through the March edition of Self Magazine at the gym today. Another reminder of why I don’t like these magazines (so why did I read it??!!). Aside from the happy weight test I talked about a couple weeks ago, I was irritated at one of the letters to the editor.

The gist of the reader’s question was “I do tons of crunches but can’t get flat abs, my tummy is still flabby, what should I do?”.

The editor’s response was “See our article on Flat Abs Fast in this month’s issue!!!”, which is just a bunch of ab exercises.

The editor should have given the *correct* answer, which would have been “You can’t target reduce fat. While you can firm and strengthen the muscles, your abs won’t show definition unless you lower your body fat percent enough for them to show.” But I guess that isn’t a sexy enough answer, or not an answer that will sell their magazine LOL!

Now the magazine “Oxygen” is more suited for women getting strong and fit and seems to have more accurate advice.

I’m with ya. I subscribe to Health and it makes me nuts most of the time. They really should let people like us answer those letters to the editor. You gotta put your time in losing the fat before you can reap the benefits of flat abs. ugh.

But you like Oxygen, eh? I’ll pick one up next time at Ye Olde Walmart…
