Over training?

I am so tired right now. Today was a complete rest day, but I still feel totally exhausted. I am not sleeping well and have felt a fair amount of stress lately.

Interesting that I was thinking about this and had followed a link provided by Susan for Thrive in 30. Now I am not interested in any way, shape or form in being vegan (or even vegetarian), but I am always interested in hearing about and applying various thoughts and principles to my life. Anyway, I signed up for the free lessons, and lo and behold – the first one was about over training! I swear he was describing me when he talked about himself. I am feeling a lot of these symptoms he described. I work out very hard at the gym 5 days a week, and then of course I have been doing these long bike rides on the weekend, and maybe either 1 day of rest is not enough or I need to relax a little bit on some of the other days. I know I really have the endurance built up for my sprint distance tri already, and don’t want to peak too soon.

My experiment for the week will be to back down some and take one extra rest day during the week. I did finish a big project, so that reduces a good chunk of stress. I do have trepidations about cutting down on the exercise, which is silly, but I do have to accept the fact that I feel that way and work on it.

John also installed some darker blinds for the bedroom today to help me sleep better (isn’t he nice??), so hopefully those will work.

That also means I have to adjust my food intake as well. Which wouldn’t be a bad idea after how I ate this weekend anyway! Was definitely out of hand.

Oh, and the breakfast cookie – you can read here about how it turned out!

I was really having a lot of stress-induced insomnia for awhile. It’s like I forgot how to relax and go to sleep.

Now, I take Tylenol PM if I’m sore from working out or basketball, and sometimes an all-natural, non-addictive sleep aid (NatureMade, I think) that I get at Walgreen’s.

Sleep can make all the difference in the world in how much energy you’ve got to take on this journey.

    Good luck.

when I was training for a competition (back in the DAY) I wasnt even working out more days a week and only a little harder and MAN MY SLEEP SUFFERED!

Id try taking an extra day of rest (active rest?) per week for a few weeks and see if you feel better.

are you still looking forward to working out?
    is it losing its luster?

Hope you can adjust your exercise routines so it works for you. We do need rest too… of course.. i like to rest to much!

Ahh, Lori, did you read my mind? I’m wiped too. Every body IS different, but I think mine works better with 2 days of rest a week instead of just one, you may be the same. Take this time to rest up, nourish your body and get re-energized! Wouldn’t it be a shame if we worked so hard training, only to be too drained for our triathlons?

New blinds are a good idea, my boyfriend did the same for me a few months ago. What wonderful men we have! 😀

Two days off may be just what you need, at least for a bit.

I hope the new blinds help – getting enough GOOD sleep makes such a difference.
