Taper week begins

The temperature was 28 degrees when I got up to go to the gym this morning.  That’s too cold even for me to bike!  I had to find the scraper to clean off the car.  Then I get to the gym and a sign says it was closed for Columbus day.  Could they not have posted this sign on Friday?  And they were open on Labor day, so not sure what is up with that.  Grrr… today was supposed to be my last strength workout before the duathlon.

Too cold to even want to run outside that early, so I just had some breakfast and got to work:

I had a chill for most of the day and wanted a hot lunch.  I used the rest of last night’s chicken and pineapple and cooked up some broccoli, cauliflower and carrots to pair with it.  Just as good the 2nd day!

The sun was out for a while and it warmed into the upper 40s, so I decided to take a break and go out for an easy run.  I actually ran to my bank and back.  Took about 30 minutes, so I am guessing maybe 2.5 miles or so?

Post run snack (latte had with it).  Not too sweaty for a change LOL!

I’ve been in saute mode lately.  Made some more shredded brussel sprouts sauteed in coconut oil and topped with craisins.  This sounds weird, but it is a really good flavor.

Pink item for the day. The knockout rose is still blooming outside, although with several days below freezing, I think it is the last gasp for them.

Done with work, so it’s time for some relaxing (MNF!!) and trying to be some sort of productive.  I just saw a preview for Where The Wild Things Are.  I love that book so much as a kid, and the previews looks so much like the story in my mind.  I can’t wait to see this!

Question:  Are you going to see Where The Wild Things Are?

We are definitely going to take the 6yo. The younger two will stay home though. They like the book but big monsters on the screen coupled with how loud the cinema gets might be a bit much for their ages …

Starting NROLFW tonight. I am kind of doing my own version since I have been weight training for almost a year. Excited to see how my body will respond to three, full-body workouts a week! Love the recipe ideas too!

I totally understand your frustration about the gym being closed! That used to happen to me with the campus gym all the time. How is it colder where you are than here?? Please don’t send that weather my way 😛

Wow, Lori. That is COLD. Yikes, I’m not quite ready for it to be that cold. Have you found that since you lost weight you are a lot more sensitive to the cold? Or is it my old age?? Of course, in between being too cold too cold too cold I am too hot too hot too hot. It’s lovely, this aging thing. Somehow I feel its my duty to spread this news around the blogosphere.

Oh, back to YOUR blog LOL. I don’t like cartoons. Is that movie going to be a cartoon?

The brussel sprouts combo sounds fantastic. And what is that yellow stuff on your dinner plate–scrambled eggs with feta cheese?

And finally, that rose is unbelievable!

Debby – I am cold all the time except when I am exercising! It was really bad last winter, I am hoping my body is a little more used to it this year.

And yes, that was scrambled eggs with feta – good call!

    Brrr!

We are planning to go see the movie. Bick sent me a link to a pattern for the cute monster hats! He wants me to make us each one to wear to the movie. I think he might be just a touch nerdly. This is what happens when bookish children grow up 🙂

I’ll say 28 is too cold to ride!!! Boo on the gym being closed, but you get points for making the effort!

We will see the movie – just wish my kids were closer, as it would be fun to see it with them.
