Bagel Day and Hot 100 update!

It’s Sunday, so you know what that means!

I woke up feeling so puffy and tired this morning.  I am not sure if it is from the flu shot I got yesterday or not.  I have never gotten a flu shot in my life before, but decided to this year.  I don’t think I have ever had the flu, either.  John will get it and I never catch it from him.  Go figure.  Anyway, since I am now a gym bunny, I thought it would be a good idea.  My arm is pretty sore, too.  We chose not to bike to breakfast and go grocery shopping instead.  I was up nice and early due to the time change 😀

French toast bagel.  I cannot wait until the Gingerbread bagels come out at Panera!

And the all important tasty beverage:

We didn’t get a lot of kids for trick-or-treating yesterday.  It was pouring buckets for a while and drizzly for the rest of the night.  I’d say maybe 20 -25 kids.  We had Teddy Grahams and Animal Crackers packs, which I am fine with having around the house leftover.

I have gotten tired of tuna, so I bought some Boca Burgers to have for lunch.  In avoiding soy stuff and trying to get rid of processed items, I had stopped buying these.  However, I don’t think having them every so often is bad.  So I had one for lunch! Topped with feta cheese and A-1

Plus half of a Comice pear.  This was delicious!

If you like chewy granola bars, you must try this recipe – they are absolutely delicious!  I made some with modifications today and had a snack with my latte:

They take 15 minutes to put together and I think are better than Kashi chewy granola bars!  I need to try making some with protein powder.

Went great with this:

I’m not going to post a dinner shot because the color is bad.  I need to figure out how to light those meals in the dark now.  Our CFL bulbs take nasty pictures LOL!  It was crockpot cooked pork with bbq sauce.  Delicious!

I really had good control with eating today, as I am taking a rest day and don’t need too many calories.  I’m not snacky like last week, and that is a good feeling!

Hot 100 update!

Tomorrow I will talk a little bit about getting through the holiday season coming up and how I have done the last couple years.

Question:  Flu shot either H1N1 or seasonal for you?

    Hey Lori,

Is there a past post you did on why you are avoiding soy products? I sometimes eat Boca Burgers but not often. I find them a little too processed. But I do eat a lot of tempeh. It’s the least processed of all the soy products (or so I’ve read). Is there a reason I should not eat soy products?

    Thanks,
    Ish

I never really posted why I don’t eat soy, because I am not totally sold on why I am not eating it. I should talk a little bit about it.

I usually get one bad bout of flu a season. It’ll keep me in bed for a good three days. But besides that and maybe a couple light colds, I never get sick. However, my mom has told me to get the H1N1 shot. I’ll have to wait a few more weeks though – as Canada is already running out of the vaccine!

I am the LAST person to help you on organizing time 😛 Congrats on hitting the other goals!!

I got the seasonal flu shot, but don’t qualify for the H1N1 – I’m trying to get my college kids to get that one, though.

Those bars look great – I will have to try them!

For veggie burgers, I eat the Gardenburger Black Bean Chipolte buger – so good – but that’s one of the few products containing soy that I eat (the other is Luna bars, but not very often). I’m with you on being wary of too much soy…but those burgers are too good not to eat!

Okay, I know this sounds crazy, but the only two times I have had the flu in recent years was the two years I had a flu shot. The nurse giving the shot the second time told me it was impossible, but it happened again. So no, I am not getting either one.

I wish I could offer some advice on time organization. I really struggle in this area. In fact, it is probably time for me to re-evaluate how I am doing with it. I have to keep on top of it all the time.

Great job on your Hot 100 goals.

Wow–french toast bagels?! Yum! And gingerbread? My mind is blown! too bad i’m pretty sure there’s no Panera within 1000 miles!

We didn’t have many trick or treater’s either–we gave out cans of soda, so I guess I’m fine with those around the house, too. I’m not really tempted by them, which was the point!

To answer your question, the bananas are really super chewy. And amazing, though. They kind of taste like the super chewy end of banana bread. If you have a TJ’s in you area, you should def. check them out.

Thanks for your comment on the blog. I was glad to see you stopped by! xoxo

I’m jealous of those bagels! We don’t have a Panera bread here.. ugh!

I’m intrigued by those granola bars. I’l have to check them out!

And I’m going to get both flu shots this year. I’m a nurse so I need it!

Don’t you love those ‘good control’ eating days?

But for me, corn syrup plus brown sugar equals automatic NO CONTROL. I’ll have to take a pass on those bars, even though they look amazing.

Gingerbread bagels? Sounds delicious. I don’t know of any places to get bagels around here other than Tim Horton’s. I don’t think they have such a great selection.

Great job on your goals so far. It fun having challenges to do to keep us motivated, eh?

I got both the seasonal and H1N1 shots. I work in a hospital and it was highly recommended, plus, there was my fear of bringing it home from work to my kids.

Gosh! I’m out of pocket for a couple days and i get so far behind on blogs!!! 🙂 Especially yours. I love that you post so often! and with pics! I wish i had your will power with bagels! One is never enough for me. Hubby and i never get the flu shot and its really unusual for either one of us to get sick though it does happen. I’d say we haven’t been sick in at least two years. Have my own theory on that but too long to post. 🙂 Your doing great Lori with all your goals and such. I’ve lost a couple of pounds since lowering my cereal intake. Wahoo! And i think the cooler weather allows me to workout more intensely.
