NROLW and shortages

The last workout from New Rules of Lifting!

  • Barbell dead lifts:  2 sets of 8 at 75 pounds
  • Dumbbell squats (heel lifted): 4 sets of 15 with 20 pound dumbbells
  • Overhead dumbbell press: 4 sets of 15 with 15 pound dumbbells
  • Stepups:  4 sets of 15 with 25 pound dumbbells
  • Underhand grip lat pull down: 4 sets of 15 at 60 pounds

After the last pulldown, I was kind of expecting some confetti or something to come from the ceiling 😀  It was actually very quiet.  I was the only one in the gym at this time (I think the rain kept people away), so I just gave myself a few claps and got on the treadmill for some walking!  I am going to do a post this weekend on NROLW, as I feel it deserves some thought after 6 months of hard workouts!

Came home and wanted something different for breakfast, so I made a psuedo crepe with pumpkin/ricotta filling!

brekkie1120

To make the crepe, I used 30 grams of Bisquick heartsmart mixed with a generous 1/8th cup of milk, then added water to make a thin batter (I also mixed in pumpkin pie spice.  I poured in into a large skillet at rolled the pan around to spread the batter, then cooked up like a pancake.  It is a cross between crepe and pancake.

  • The filling was:
  • 1/2 cup of fresh pumpkin puree
  • 1/4 cup of ricotta cheese
  • pumpkin pie spice
  • 2 tsp of agave nectar.

Mix well and heat in the microwave to warm up.  I actually had too much filling, so I put some on top!  (And a tiny drizzle of dulce du leche)

This brings up the pumpkin shortage.  There was one last year, and pickings were really slim around here.  I was excited to find pumpkin again this fall, and now it seems as it will disappear again!  Is this a ploy?  Maybe some of the other smaller companies will step up.  I don’t really want to buy organic pumpkin.  Heck, I don’t know if it’s even around here!

Keeping in the shortage theme, I had a waffle sandwich with lunch.  Turkey, laughing cow, and apple butter.

We noticed a lot of missing waffles in our stores the last couple weeks, particularly the nutrigrain brand.  Turns out Kellogg’s has some problems at 2 of their plants creating a shortage of waffles.  (Waffle iron officially on Christmas list).  They are rationing where the waffles go, so you know small upstate NY isn’t getting any!

Lunch also included broccoli for a switch up!

Pixie wants some catnip:

My mother and I went out to a craft show and shopped around a little bit.  It was a good show with a wide variety of things.  They also served food there, and since it was late afternoon  – we decided to get a snack/early dinner.  I had a bowl of chili and a mini cheesecake.  The cheesecakes were 2 for 50 cents.  Can you believe that?  I don’t know why they didn’t just give them away.

I think I embarrassed my mom taking this picture since I stood up to do it.  😆  I did get 1 christmas gift and a couple things for me.

Tonight involves some ornament making:

Question:  Have you noticed the waffle or pumpkin shortages in your area?

Our Wal Marts have signs up about the waffles in their freezer sections, and so far, pumpkin can still be found, although it was mentioned in our local paper, so it will probably be scarce by this weekend. I have a friend in Alabama who hasn’t been able to find canned pumpkin all season – only a can here and there, so I guess its only going to get worse. I cooked and pureed my pumpkin from Halloween and froze it, and now I am glad I did!

Haha that would be SO epic if there was a total “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” celebration with confetti + balloons when you finished that workout. You should have set something up and had a dance party 😉

Your crepe looks delicious! I’ve noticed the pumpkin shortage here, but the Whole Foods still has it. Most of the time, the smaller markets are out :/ Pixie is adorable!

Hey, Gratz on completing the NROWL program. That is not a small thing.

I asked my husband if I could do anything for him today and he told me in a serious tone he uses for matters of the highest importance about the *pumpkin shortage.* This was such a risk in his mind that he walked over to the Giant and bought FOUR jumbo sized cans. I’m sorry to say it, we are pumpkin hoarders.

Congrats on working your way through NROLW! I’m impressed at how you kept up with it, and with the weight you’re lifting. Looking forward to your summary post.

I heard about the pumpkin shortage here first, and my husband filled me in on the details. Whole Foods had plenty today, but I haven’t been to the regular grocery store lately. We don’t buy waffles, but I heard about the shortage of those on another blog I follow. No wonder I rarely read the paper! I get all the pop culture stuff on the blogosphere. 😉

Congratulations on finishing NROLW. That is a huge accomplishment! Pixie has beautiful eyes! We are going to get a kitty soon… The crepe looks really yummy. I bought 4 cans of pumpkin today and haven’t seen a shortage yet, but wanted to be safe. Hope you have a good weeknd!

Congrats for finishing NROLW! Thats amazing Lori…I’ve seen where someone else has asked you on an earlier post what you are going to do now as far as weights go but i never did see you answer. Do you have something in mind??? I did the ‘Get Ripped Slim and Lean ‘DVD the other day and i’m still sore. Way more sore than when i was going to the gym. Goes to show i probably wasn’t working out hard enough a the gym on my own. I have the Get Ripped dvd from Netflix but i will probably buy it.

Way to Go and Congrats on finishing NROLW!!! I’m looking forward to reading your summary as well.
I knew about the waffle shortage from the article on my Yahoo homepage but I had no idea of the pumpkin scarcity. What an odd combo of foods to be short of.
I have to go out for some groceries today and I’ll check out the situation. >:/
You had broccoli for lunch? Wow … you’re really going over the edge there aren’t you? LOL 😀
Have fun with your ornament making and hope your weekend is a good one.

Can I just say that Pixie looks like she is wearing a “Breathe Right” strip across her nose in that picture? Love that ball of fluff…she is so cute!

GREAT JOB finishing NROLW!!! You stuck with it and have the guns, lats, quads and abs to prove it – congratulations!!!

I’m going to have to check and see if I can get pumpkin in our local stores now. Waffles don’t bother me as I don’t eat them…but if I had a waffle maker, that would be a totally different story!

Congratssss on finishing NROL!!! I noticed you have your wrap-up post up, so I’ll go there next 🙂

The only pumpkin I can buy here is E.D. Smith 28oz cans, and I’ve only heard of a Libby shortage so far? I dunno, I hate pumpkin, so it’s kind of a relief 😛 As for the waffles shortage, that’s another story. So long as it doesn’t affect my beloved Nature’s Path waffles.
