Cold and cruising thoughts.

If you haven’t checked out my post on how I named my blog, click here!  Thank you for your comments!  I have the best readers 😉

Bitter cold this morning.  One of those days where the stairs crack and pop on the porch  😯   I headed out to the gym for my run.  The plan was to do 5 miles, but I was not feeling it today.  I think it was likely the blood donation yesterday.  I slogged through 2 miles and had the speed at 5.5 mph.  Normally I get a first wave of tired after 1.5 miles and then after 2 I’m okay.  Today didn’t feel good.  I normally increase the speed after 2 miles, but my heartrate was 160 at 5.5 mph!  I knew something was up there and decided no speed work and no faster.  I stopped after 4 miles, choosing to listen to my body say it just needed to quit there.  Still 4 miles, though 😀

Came home freezing cold just from going from the gym to home.  Wind chills of below 0 today.  Ugh.  I made a toasty warm bowl of banana cream of wheat topped with almond butter and jam.

One thing about cream of wheat and oat bran is that they hold heat like the dickens!  John said we should insulate our house in cream of wheat, which I am sure the mice would love 🙄

Also some liquid love of cafe au lait to help warm me up:

Pixie has been a complete heat-seeking lap missile today.  She is stuck to me like glue.  I think she really likes the snuggie, too 😀

Lunch was more tuna.  We got a pick 4 pack (12 cans) of tuna at BJs.  I think I am going to be tired of tuna again pretty soon!

Using up more corporate waffles as bread.  Changed it up with strawberries at lunch, though!

Afternoon warmth:

I cut up the best pineapple today for dinner.  They must be in season or something because they were on sale and it was quite good.  I lurve fresh pineapple!  Along with an omelet mess.

I think I need to mince the broccoli if I am going to try to make omelets with it, because the omelet just falls apart.  Still tasted good, though.

I turned down an offer to go out for coffee tonight, can you believe it?  I just can’t bear the thought of going out in wind chill of -11 degrees!  You know it’s cold if I won’t go for coffee….  The weather is making us so excited for our cruise in the beginning of Feb!  Not sure if I wrote about this or not, but we are cruising to Mexico.  The best part is that the cruise leaves from New Orleans (!!!!), so we are there for a couple days before the ship leaves and we can stuff our faces with beignets.

Then the ship goes to the Yucatan and Cozumel.  This is the first vacation for John and I of more than a weekend in 3 years!  We deserve it.  I’ll be blogging on the trip, too – which will be fun.  Can you believe the cruise ship has wi-fi?  This will be our 2nd cruise.  The first was about 10 years ago, which was also to the Caribbean.  How time flies!

Question:  Have you ever cruised before?

I have been on a cruise before. In 2006 I went on a Disney cruise with my kid. It was a lot of fun. I wouldn’t mind going again, but the BF is not big on boats. We’ll have to see.

oh my gosh I know what you mean about the cold! It is supposed to feel like -20 tonight! Now that I am just not OK with.

I’ve never been on a cruise and am dying to go. I was supposed to go on one in February but Mike and I ended up buying a house instead….haha oh well!

Can you believe that stopping a run after 4 miles means what it does to you now? It’s so cool to see how we (the proverbial) evolve with exercise!

I don’t blame you for not going out in that kind of cold…that’s hunker-down time! Pixie has the right idea!

Your cruise sounds fun. I’ve never been on one – I get motion sickness really easily and am just wary of being stuck on a big boat. Shoot, I even got a little seasick floating in the ocean one day while we were in Maui! But starting in NO will be great – my co-worker is from there and regales me with stories of the food there!

Oh, I ADORE cruises. If I could convince Hubby to do one every year, I would. :o)

We’re doing our 2nd cruise together, but my 5th one altogether this year – it’s for our 5 year anniversary. We’ll be going to the Mediterranean for 12 glorious nights…not that I’m excited or anything. LOL

We should do a bloggers’ cruise. LOL

I hear you on the running thing. I need to start throwing in more distance running but I’ve been actually enjoying (!!) doing speedwork on the treadmill…if I’m going to do the half marathon(s) I want to do, I definitely need to start doing some more distance work.

I have never been on a cruise and now that I no longer fly, I am trying to talk my BF into a three “B” cruise.

    Buffalo -> Boston -> Bermuda.

I think I will be able to wear him down in the next couple of years.

Mmmm…those pics of cafe au laits are making me miss my mistos. Won’t get one until next week either. Something to look forward to.

I think pineapple is in season right now–so good! I can’t believe you still find strawberries to buy!

I was at a hotel gym this morning, trying out the treadmill–won’t tell you how far or how fast I went. Just will say I am very impressed with your stats!

Haven’t cruised yet, but its on my list of ‘things to do!’

I should comment to the buyer at our local grocery store – the strawberries are $2.99 a pound year round and I so love them!

  7. Fat[free]Me

LOL, I gave blood a few weeks ago and then did a spinning class 2 hours later. I felt OK at the time, but it took me a week to recover!

Your upcoming cruise sounds just perfect, lovely to think about while coping with the cold, cold weather – brrrrr.

NO but its definately on my ‘life list’ of things to do! 🙂 Love to know all the ins and outs and details. What to do and not do as i’ll probably only spend the money once.

I’m headed out for an early morning run. Just hanging out in my running clothes waiting for it to get light enough. 41 degrees! Thought it would be much colder! NOt that i’m complaining. Must go to work at 10 and get off at 6 and by then its dark. 🙁

Yes, blood giving usually can drain the workout. They usually say to not exercise hard the day after you give blood. I always try to give blood on a day that I will not be exercising the next day. Glad you listened to the bod!!!

How exciting about the cruise! Good for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am not a cruise person. I like to get somewhere & just be there & hang. A boat thing is not for me BUT I know plenty that love it!!!! You deserve that! My parents loved cruising when they were alive!

I loved the explanation of your blog’s name. Do you still have readers that followed you from the beginning?

A cruise! Wow! That’s something we want to do sometime in the future too, I think that would be so much fun. And yes you deserved it!

I don’t think I had many readers in the beginning and for quite a while. I think I didn’t start getting regular commenters until late 2007. I do believe a couple of those people are still with me!

We took a cruise a little over a year ago leaving from Fort Lauderdale going to Key West, Cozumel, and Belize. Somehow we dodged various hurricanes and had a great time! I would love to cruise again!

I love New Orleans so I am mega jealous just so you know! 😛

Came over from Jody’s for a visit! I’m very impressed with how you took control of your health and fitness! It’s even pretty cold here in northern Florida this week, but even when I lived in the frigid north, I still got my workouts done, didn’t enjoy them, but bliss was in finishing 🙂

  13. Cindy

I have never done a cruise. Everyone I know who has gone came home sick. I guess it sort of stick in my head, being stuck on a ship with a thousand other people with swine flu

I guess that’s a little anti vacation but, that’s me!
    haha

I am so sure your blood donation has everything to do with your run/energy. you have 1 less pint of blood to carry oxygen to your muscles…and they feel it! I go thru about a week of fatigue after every blood donation..that and I have super low blood pressure!

your cups of latte always make me want some coffee!

I would love to spend a week in a cottage on a beach somewhere! that sounds relaxing!!!

    xo
