Goals for the New Year!

Welcome to the new decade!  I am posting my goals today for the year so I can find them easier come the end of the year LOL!  I like to call them goals instead of resolutions because the  word resolution brings up “resolute” in my mind- which seems like trudging with head down and not enjoying.  Goals are positive, achievable, moveable, and changeable!

I loved how 2009 ended up being a big fitness achievement year for me:

(Rocking the Triscuit – best.purchase.ever.)

Fitness Goals:

The same Duathlon for sure!  A few 5K.  The number of races will be a little dependent on finances, as they get expensive to keep doing, but for sure Silk & Satin and Goblin Gallop.

I would love to do a day where I ride 100 miles on my bike this summer.  I will achieve this with incremental increases in mileage each week.

Possibly a 1/2 marathon.  This is also something I can’t quite commit myself to as it might interfere with the 100-mile bike and the duathlon as far as training goes.  Biking is always my first love 😀  I have the 1/2 picked out to do if I so choose to do it in the fall.  I am going to increase my base running distances this year (I still can’t believe I am writing that!) and do speed work so I will be ready if the opportunity presents itself.

Weight Goals:

Okay, I am going to be ambiguous here.  First and foremost I am going to maintain at a minimum.  I am still struggling with whether I am at goal now or if I do that little extra required to get to a specific number.  I am pretty happy with how I look now, but I know deep inside that I could do a little more.  I think most of you know what I mean. It’s just a matter of a little more dedication and commitment to it.   Controlling snacking is a big thing for me.  This probably needs its own post. 😉

Food Goals:

1. Continue to eat more locally, particularly the meat.   This is for eco reasons and to support our local economy.

2.  I am taking a few days each week where I don’t record my food.  I actually did this in December some. This is not intuitive eating, as I pretty much have a running tally in my head, but it is a challenge to myself to stay on track without being dependent on the computer 😀

Misc Goals:

Sell my rental house.  The big one!   This was never intended to be a rental and I want to sell it so that I can move on with other plans.  This will go with plans to increase income this year so that I can do other things.

I would like to do some volunteer work, but I have not picked out a specific yet.

Organize my blog a bit, like having a specific day each week with a new recipe and another day talking about a specific strength training move.

More family time!

I will be doing dog training with my sister in February.  I would also like to get going on a monthly game night where we all get together and play board games.  Scheduling is hard with that

Doing something with my hair!  I started growing it out last February when it was really short and now it is in the awkward teenage stage.  I have not been to the salon in almost a year.  Need to decide what I want to do with it.

And, as always, to be radiant 😎

—————————————————————

So there is a nice mix of specific and non specific goals.  Seems like a lot, but not really.  I’ll probably add to and modify as life dictates.

I love all of your goals! Going 100 miles on your bike sounds really awesome. I’d love to hear about your journey to get there. I’m sure you will have lots of interesting posts in the coming year. 🙂

Too funny – when I was reading your weight goals, I was thinking “lifting” NOT “scale” because to me you are so tiny and again, to me, you look like you are at goal. But I know how you feel about “knowing” you could get a little more off.

Your fitness goals are impressive! Can’t wait to follow along as you accomplish everything.

    Happy New Year!

Lori, I can so relate to your weight goals. I’ve been under my official WW goal for over 8 years, but in the past couple of years I have added a nagging 5 pounds that I really feel I should lose. But after all this time it is easy to get comfortable, and it will take some extra effort to try to lose weight. So I am like you — weighing my commitment to actually do something about the extra pounds. For me that has always been the key – commitment.

Good luck to you with your goals this year. You are an inspiration to many, including me!

I love the goals and I’m sure you’ll reach them too, you have so much dedication to the things you do, there’s no doubt in my mind you will do them too.

I’m not much of a family person, just got home from a meeting with the inlaws and it was so boring  I do however want to spend some more time with my mother as she’s alone and I only have one sister. I do want to spend the same or more time with my friends who mean more to me than family. They feel more like family.

I say you have some great goals there! You did awesome in 2009 so I am sure that will continue! Like you, I need to do more with my blog.. or decide how much I just want to do…. time will tell on this one.

I love that you are happy with how you look now. So many can never say that! I can admit to that one.. I am always seeing something else I need to do BUT with age, there is always something that is dropping! 🙂

    Happy New Year!

Oooh, I love all of your goals!! Sounds like we may be doing a duathlon and half-mary toghether this year 😉 Although, 100 miles on a bike is A LOT!! Maybe 2011 for me? 😛 More family time is a big one for me too. I find it become more important to me as each year passes.

100 miles is a lot – that will take some training for sure. Funny how I think a 100-mile ride would be easier than a 1/2 marathon??

  7. Fat[free]Me

You did loads in 2009 (I know cos I enjoyed reading about them, they helped inspire me big time)!

Sounds like you are going to have a great 2010 – love the sound of the 100 mile bike ride, I think I would love to try something like that too.

Happy New Year and thanks so much for your support and continued inspiration. xx

LOVE your goals list, Lori, and I love your explanation of goals instead of resolutions. The 100 mile bike ride intrigues me, because there is a ride around Lake Tahoe that is 100 miles that just sounds fantastic to me. Maybe I can at least start training for that–I guess that would mean fixing the flat tire that I’ve had for a year…maybe I can interest Pubsgal in going to Lake Tahoe with me…

I will be doing another thing ‘with’ you Lori–dog training!!!! Squeeeee….I got a new dog today! I can hardly stand it! I need to write my blog instead of telling everybody in their comments!!!

P.S. Forgot to comment on the pic of you and Triscuit–best picture ever of you!!

And the ‘growing the hair out’ thing. I never can decide what I want to do with my hair besides ‘I don’t want to spend time or money at the hair salon…’

I know – the hair! I grow it because I want to be able to do something different with it, then I just want to cut if off…..

  10. Lynn Haraldson-Bering

Love your goals. One of mine would be to bike with Lori in 2010 🙂 I’m also with you on the non-tracking of food. I’d like to not be beholden to a computer, too. I’ll be very interested in how you do with this. (In other words, you go first! LOL) Funny you mention volunteering, too. That word keeps coming into my head. I need to pay attention to it. Something’s trying to tell me something, only I’m not sure what or where yet. Perhaps volunteering in nursing home. Hmmm…

Here’s to another great year of blogging!

Heh…love your goals! I also have to do something with my hair. I’ve just been letting it grow because I don’t know what to do with it.

I had four friends who did the first Boston-NY AIDS ride many years ago and two of those days were 100-mile rides. They all said that as long as you’ve been doing the training, it’s not that bad. I was really proud of them (especially the three over 50) because they all finished in the top 50 riders every day.

I also love your blogging goal. I’ve been thinking about setting up specific posts for different days of the week.

The pic of you in your tri is the best ever! You look so fit and happy. You goals for the new year sound completely doable. Why can’t we live next door to each other? 🙂 Why are buddies with the same interests so hard to find?? With all these bloggers on here so interested in fitness why do none of them live near me??? LOL! I still don’t like the lonely road. Thanks for your comment on my blog girl. Always love hearing from you!

Happy new year, Lori! I am loving your goals and will cheer you on to reach them all. I am also in that awkward phase of haircuts. I cut it short over a year ago and have been trying to let it grow now for about 8 months…so I completely relate to that one.

Love the pic of you on your bike. What a year you had!
