Bagels and settling the mind.

I had a great night’s sleep – yay!  I wanted to stay up and watch the short track, but couldn’t make it past the semi-finals.  We headed on out to breakfast at Panera Bread.  I had a french toast bagel.  So good.

The coffee had grounds in it again, though.  What is up with that?? Only in my cup (twice), but not in John’s.  Still trying to figure that one out.

Slow work day this morning, so I got some much needed things done around the house.  I have a monster paper pile I am trying to tame, mostly junk mail, but other things as well.

We went grocery shopping today, and strawberries were on sale for $2 a pound!  You know who bought 3 boxes 😀  I had to incorporate into lunch today:

This is one of my very favorite combos – greek yogurt, strawberries, and hemp plus granola.  I have had cereal out of the house for quite a while, so I let a little back in.  I buy it from the bulk bin, so I can get as little as I want.  As you all know, I have a cereal snackage problem at times.
I need to see how well I do with this in the house.  If I am okay, we might buy a box of Kashi next week.   Baby steps.

Now that things have settled down, I have myself into a good routine again.  However, I am finding my mind still all over the place and racing around.  Meditation doesn’t seem to work as I can’t stop thinking about stuff.  Things that happened, things that are happening, things that could/are going to happen.  I guess I am just an inherent spazz, I don’t know.  Maybe it will just take longer to settle down my head and the longer I am in my physical routine, the better that will get?  I have decided it’s time to make some decisions on goal weight and all that and what I want to do.  After I finish work tonight, I am going to sit down and write out the pros and cons of what that will take and share them tomorrow.  I at least need to outline my goals for the week.

Went out for a chilly walk (not as warm out as yesterday!) then came back to a snack of this (x2):

And a latte.  I am so spoiled having my own barista in John, as he makes these pretty much every day for me since I started my job a year ago.

I also got some Cedar’s Lemon Hummus at the store today.  Gosh I love that stuff!  I used it for dinner in wrap with chicken.

Brussels and a very juicy bit of cantaloupe on the side.  I love fruit so much.  I swear that if fruit contained protein, that is all I would eat other than bagels

After signing off, I am going to have a snack of crustless pumpkin pie.  John stole a can from my pumpkin stash 😯  and made this, so I am darn well going to eat some!  It’s yummy, though.  Who says pumpkin is just for Thanksgiving??

And because you all seem to like her pictures, Pixie posed for you doing what she does best:

Question:  Do you ever put a food ‘on hiatus’?

I have no problem moderating other types of chocolate, but white chocolate defeated me. It’s on the “do not buy” list until next Christmas, when I’m certain to overdo again. 🙂

Regarding the meditation and not being able to quiet your mind…that is normal. Just let the thought breeze by…sometimes I have to do it every 3 seconds when I am meditating. Keep at it though…it has so many benefits.

I have a lot of foods that are on hiatus. A lot of things that my mouth likes don’t get along with what my stomach likes and I have to remind myself of that frequently.

Great food pics and love Pixie.

I am jealous of your barista. I haven’t been to work since Tuesday and I am not going tomorrow and I am missing my mistos.

$2 a pound!?!?!? Man, I’m jealous! We just paid $4 a box today!

I’m very similar on the “getting your mind to relax” thing…I have a hard time with that! If I had any suggestions I’d give them but I don’t have any! LOL

Food on hiatus?? All the freakin’ time! Not including all the “give-ups” for 40 days – permanent hiatus on fast food, permanent hiatus on toffee, and a usual hiatus on chocolate chip cookies. Things that are my “trigger” foods.

Chocolate is on hiatus for the month of February. And I think I owe a few days in March, too, because my Valentine’s Day pass extended two days past V-day. I blame stress.

As for things on your mind, I’ve read (but never tried) advice saying just write them down so your mind has “permission” to forget them for a while.

I love Pixie pictures. So what did John make with the pumpkin? I know what you mean about getting the mind to rest. I laughed when you talked about fruit I am the same way.

Hee hee – I love your words “cereal snackage problem”!! I can certainly relate to that with some other foods – and then the only solution is to keep them out of the house, right? My major problem is with potato chips – so my solution is to buy three single serving bags for my three kids. And every now and then a big bag that we all share, portioned out for each person. Otherwise I am seriously capable of scarfing down a whole normal size bag all by myself (aaarrgghh).

I totally struggle with the monkeymind 🙂 at times and a lot frequently.
Ive scaled back to meditating for THREE MINUTES at a stretch right now because of that and entirely rely upon my mantra to occupy me.

I have a hard time with meditation too. It is very hard to quiet the mind! Yes, I do put food on hiatus when I feel I am eating something too frequently or something.
Your wrap looks delish and I may have to keep my eyes open for lemon hummus-sounds good!

I haven’t put any certain food on hiatus as of yet, but I have thought about it.

My husband hates coffee…so I’m a tad jealous of your having a barista husband. 😀 Good for you!

    Have a good week!

I sometimes have to put baking on hiatus. I go through phases where I make cookies, cupcakes, and muffins and can’t stop eating until they are all gone! So I will impose a temporary ban on baking. Right now I’m hoping to stay banned until St. Patrick’s Day.

Were the strawberries good? I never buy them “off season” because they don’t taste as good as they do in the summer.

Most of the olympic games are when it’s night here so I missed the 1500K for men and for woman Saturday and yesterday where we won a gold medal on both. Tomorrow is the 10K for men which starts at 10 pm so I’m finally able to watch that.

Lori, I think you should expand a little and try baby food. Seriously! It’s just like canned pumpkin, but in, erm, tiny jars 😛 I do food hiatus’ all the time. Mostly with things like M&Ms, cereal, raisins, etc. I’ve actually started buying baby carrots to munch on while I’m in the kitchen/cooking dinner. They’re a little more low cal and at least carry some nutrition!

I’m envious of your good strawberry prices, they are at least $3.50 around my neck of the woods. Frozen is fine for smoothies but I do miss fresh ones so much! Maybe that has something to do with the fact that I usually get them from a farm, where they are hand picked and go straight from the plant to me. Usually on a warm June day where the berry just melts in my mouth. Mmm! To answer your question, I don’t put any particular food on hiatus, but there are foods I cannot keep in the house because the portion control is not at a good level yet. I don’t want to set myself up for failure, so out they stay. I’d rather pay a higher price for a single serving at a restaurant and be satisfied with that one serving.
