Balanced day and bring on the questions!

Thanks for all your input on my to goal or not to goal post from yesterday!  I am always looking for ways to challenge myself, and without any specific events or anything to train for right now, it seems as good a time as any to see what I can do with the scale.  Nothing may happen, but I am willing to give it a try.  I do know that if it doesn’t really want to move, or I find it too hard – I am okay with where I am.  😀

Started off the day with a pre-run snack!

I need to make my own and quit with the bars.  (Yeah, I know I keep saying that…).   Today was run day at the gym.  I am glad I lifted light yesterday, because my legs felt nice and fresh today.  The goal was 5 miles or whatever I felt like doing after that, which turned into 6!  I had covered up the electronics after mile 1 and just listened to my tunes (Hot Club of Detroit).  When I uncovered, it was just about 6 miles, so I finished it out.  Going at a slower pace (for me) really helps the longer runs.  I do between 5.5 and 5.8 mph for the longer runs.

Schweaty:

I was totally ready for breakfast!  Banana custard oats and cafe au lait:

Topped with PB&J!

Got right to work this morning.  Busy, busy.  And watching the snow start to fall.  We are predicted to get a good amount of snow over the next couple of days of 8 to 16 inches (could they maybe have narrowed that down a bit??).  Regardless, there will be some shoveling happening tomorrow.  Not sure if that will affect bagel Wednesday or not 👿

Lunch break of greek yogurt, hemp plus granola and strawberries!

Yum! Today was really a yummy food day.  Or maybe it was the long run that made everything taste extra good.

My own personal barista made me  latte, which I paired with an Attune bar.  I really think the raspberry ones are my favorite.

I finished up work right at dinner time, which was nice.  Most evenings I have about 1/2 hour or so left by dinner time, so this was a happy thing.  Needing to eat up those potatoes!  I also had thawed out some ground beef.  We purchase our meat from a local smokehouse, and they do not have any lean mixes, just straight up 80/20.  So, ground beef is a little rare (hardeehar) around here.   I cooked it up and mixed it with some barbeque sauce (addiction alert!) and topped a baked potato with it.  Really, really good:

Overall, I did quite well with the eating today.  I had extra calories because of the run x2:

and I balanced my meals and snacks pretty well.  And fairly clean. Tonight will be some stretching and working on a strength training workout for tomorrow (if I can make it to the gym!)

FAQ time: Okay – I am going to do another round of FAQs as there are a lot of new readers.  So please, ask me anything in the comments or email me at javaqueen01 (at) yahoo.com.  I am going to use these to compile an FAQ page, along with the ones I did before.  Long overdue for that….

Don’t forget about the 15% off coupon at OpenSky for the Olympics promotion!  It expires on the 23rd.  I have some new nut butter in my shop, too.

Question:  Are you seeing any snow?

Freakishly, I can answer YES to your question!!! Nothing like what you will get, but still…this is south Texas after all!

The other day I was eating an Attune bar for a late afternoon snack at work and apparently I made it look so delicious (probably because I took my sweet time eating it) that several people had to take a look at the wrapper so they could get some! Haven’t tried the raspberry yet.

We are looking to get some snow by the weekend. I’m seriously wishing we could invest in a treadmill so that when snow hits too hard and my kids don’t have school I can still run. I think I’m addicted.

I am going to email you a couple of questions.

Great job on the 6 miles. I WISH I could keep myself from staring at the mileage on the treadmill for that long. I try to cover up the display but it lasts a mile at the longest before I have to peak. 😉

We are suppose to get snow/rain/ice…. who knows what the next couple of days. I just want the mountains to at least get some snow! I have some skiing to finally get around to this winter!

No snow here but north Houston got some. Not a lot and I doubt if it stuck.

To answer your question I have a Canon EOS 20D. Still haven’t read the manual on how to use it! LOL

I ordered the gloves from your shop. I’ve never bought gloves so I have no idea what size I wear. I chose a Large.

Question for you: how/when did you start lifting weights? At what point in your journey and what difference did it make in your weight? Did you have a personal trainer or did you read a book or what?
Yes, I’m asking for myself as I try to get acquainted with free weights. 🙂 I have the New Rules of Lifting for Women. Thinking about putting it into practice next month but I still have so much weight to lose.

I wish they had those Raspberry Attune bars here!! I have tried the dark choclate and chocolate crisp (which is like a Crunch bar!). Love them so much.

Oddly enough, we have seen snow today…in Central Texas! Almost 3 whole inches! The city is on the verge of shutting down. :-p

Props on the long treadmill run! My iPod died the other day at the start of 3 miles, and I was thisclose to quitting. Ah, the dreadmill!

NO SNOW ! NOOOOOOOO! I don’t like snow. Unless I have a lot of days off work.

And yes indeedy, that was a very good food day. Yummmm! You’re making me want potatoes, which I haven’t eaten much lately. Have you had them with cottage cheese and other toppings, like cottage cheese and salsa, cottage cheese with olives and italian spices. Yummy.

I am jealous of your workouts. Because of my work schedule, I am feeling a bit off. Its less than a week, but it feels like I haven’t worked out for a month.

Oh my gosh, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Attune bars! People don’t believe me when I tell them how tasty they are! One question for you: I saw flax seeds in your store and know I can sprinkle them on oatmeal and just about everything else. I take it you are supposed to grind them first? What’s the difference between golden and brown flax seeds (and others)? Do you have any recommendations for a newbie just starting out with flax? Sorry, that was more than one question 🙂

Great workout Lori!!!! Yup, nice & sweaty & proves you done good!

I like your strategy for your goal…. and that you are happy with where you are now too. Never hurts to try a new goal! 🙂

I have a pretty decent recipe for protein bars if you are interested. I posted in on my site a couple times if not more.. 🙂

NO SNOW HERE except in our mountains!

It’s raining here in Boston but they are getting snow up in VT (YAY!). Of course, I’m stuck in the city this weekend so I hope it doesn’t all melt by the time I get up there next weekend.

    Hi Lori,

I am new to your site, but I have a question – I’m just curious.

Have you done any experiments with fasted workouts? That is, heading into your morning run without a snack before hand? What’s your opinion on that?

    All the best,

    Heather

I am fiiinally off the store-bought bars and making my own regularly. It was quite easy actually – I just stopped buying them! If they’re not in the house, I can’t eat them 😉 Mind you, my bars aren’t as decadent as a Balance bar, but they do get the job done. I found I was eating all those bars for my sweet fix, when I might as well just have a small piece of chocolate to put it to rest, then get the other calories from more quality food.

Question: If you were to do it all over again (lose the weight) knowing everything you know now, would you do anything differently?

Ok, I think it’s safe to say that you and I are both addicted to the Cookie Dough Balance Bars as well as (possibly) the Attune bars, though I haven’t tried the raspberry flavor yet. You know I will now, though! Man, we’re going to need a support group pretty soon!

My question is – do you have any coffee before your afternoon Latte? Do you have any in the morning with breakfast or before your workout? why or why not?
