April Wrap Up

Hello beautiful Saturday!  Lazyish morning, although I was up too early.  I made some protein waffles.  I haven’t had blueberries all week!

Deeelicious!  I spent a good chunk of the morning reading blogs and catching up.  Then I actually worked for 1-1/2 hours.  So lame…..  While I was working, John was making up pizza dough!  I thought it was bread, but he asked if I wanted pizza for lunch.  Yes!  I was hungry, though – so I nibbled on some cereal while he baked.

I swear, it does not matter what kind of cereal is in the house.  I will snack on it.

The pizza was a complete success!

That’s ground beef on there.  This was his best crust to date.  It’s actually modified from a baked donut recipe.   He changed it by using 1/2 wheat flour, reducing the sugar to 1 tablespoon of sugar (and made 1/2 of the recipe).  It was nice and puffy and chewy.  This would be a perfect dessert pizza crust too, as written.

So, another month has come and gone.  Lots of things happened this month for me!

The good:

The bad:

The good pretty much outweighed the bad, but the injury took up 3/4 of the month!

I learned a few things this month.  I don’t have to rely on exercise to maintain my weight – or even to lose, really.  I also can handle stress pretty well.  I can blow off steam and be laughing later in the day.  Although, I am thinking about making a swear jar for the month of May (to which John replied that we could fund a vacation with it – he is hilarious, I tell you 🙄 ).

I’ll get to May goals in a second, need to take a yogurt break:

Does this not look divine?  It was!  Coconut lime yogurt topped with toasted coconut.  We biked there.  I wore Triscuit outside for the first time this year, with plenty of sunscreen.  Mid 80s today!

We did 15 miles today.  I was actually 1 mph faster today and it felt really good.  I kind of got a little weepy for a second on the path because I was so, so thankful to be able to ride again.  Even if I am not 100%, I am so happy about this.   I am taking tomorrow off, as I do not want to push it.

Came home and made some dinner!  It’s the BBQ salad, only I had it with pork.

No nuts on it because I ate about 1/2 cup of cashews before dinner 😳

I think I like the chicken better.

Now, where was I?  Oh yes – May goals.

  • The return to running.  I hope this happens.  It all depends on when the weakness in my leg is gone and the leg can support itself.
  • Lose 3 pounds.  There – I put a concrete number on the month!  I actually lost almost 5 pounds in April, which is completely shocking to me.  Who knew a herniated disk would actually help me.
  • Go to the dentist.
  • Really, really think about my current job.  It’s fairly stressful, so I have to decide if all the great benefits it has are worth the stress and low pay.
  • Try to make the blog more interesting with recipes and  lifting stuff (or anything else you want to see!).

I am off tonight to my sisters house and work with Storm.  I am doing something with rally or obedience tomorrow, but I don’t remember what LOL!  So, I have to practice.  I’ll have pics of whatever we are doing tomorrow.

Question:  Do you have goals for May?

Good luck in the month of May! That yogurt looks fantastic- I wish we had a place like that around here but I can’t seem to find one. So happy you’re back to biking!!

I just found your blog and you’re one aspiring, funky woman! 😀 I’ll be a regular reader for sure!

You did really well in April, all thing considered. It shows that not only do you know how to eat in a healthy manner, you DO it often enough that you were able to adjust what your body needed when you weren’t able to push the workouts to your normal intensity – and that is huge!

OK, I think it’s you, me, Debby, Biz and Kelly on board for a good losing month of May – we can do it! Even with frozen yogurt! (That toasted coconut looks great – our Red Mango has coconut, but it’s not toasted so I can easily pass on that).

Sounds like April turned out okay then! Glad you were able to get back to biking and good luck with the running. I’d love to see more info on lifting, as I plan to get back in swing with that once my workshops are over…
My big goal for May is to complete all my training runs for the Brussels Half and keep healthy so that I have an enjoyable race day.

You had a great month in April weight wise just be careful going forward not to reinjure your disc. I was taught in personal trainers school not to increase lbs lifted by more than 10% at a time same with increasing mileage on runs or time execising so much to think about.
I am trying to lose my final 10-12 pounds have dropped 8.5 so far and my blood pressure has come down for it….Good luck in May!

Especially the dinner looks great! We’ve had such beautiful days last week but since Friday it’s mostly rain. Oh well, it will get better eventually.

I always have goals as you know 😆 You’ve already read them too.

    Have a great Sunday.

I am totally convinced that the rest you took last month shocked your body into losing weight. Oddly, my boss mentioned I’d lost weight while at my last job – I thought desk jobs were supposed to pack on the pounds! 😛 Our bodies are strange and mysterious things I tell ya…

I don’t know why, but seeing a biking and frozen yogurt post got me excited for summer 🙂

Lots of goals for May – namely get my butt organized and get more blog content up while I have this down time. And spend every last minute I can soaking up the company of my family before I move to the big city.

LOVE your protein pancake/waffle recipe! I am definitely going to try that soon. You didn’t mention a calorie count – any idea?

It’s some kind of fate that I found your blog, my husband has just lifted my bike off the garage wall for me – where it has hung for *ahem* five years….and I just tried taro root!!

My hubby would agree with John on how my swearing could fund a vacation too! 🙂

So glad you are biking again & feeling better! A great way to start May & your May goals. You accomplished some good ones in April though!

Well, I am already doing the dentist thing, UGH, but I do need to focus on how to make some money!

Man, that yogurt looks so yummy! Glad you enjoyed!

I love the idea of setting monthly goals… maybe I will start doing that to keep me on track! I did a really good job in April of switching up my exercise routine by buying a bike and starting to do yoga regularly, so I hope to continue that and also add running back into my routine.

About the herniated disk – I totally hear you. I actually had to get emergency back surgery in 2006 from a herniated disk. I woke up one day and was unable to stand up, and ended up having to take a leave of absence from my job because I literally could not walk or stand. I went back to the doctor and they sent me to the ER and did an MRI and told me I had to get surgery THAT DAY. It was scary, but the surgery was a miracle. I was able to walk down the hall and up and down stairs the morning after the surgery when I hadn’t been able to stand in TWO WEEKS before it!

Catching up on blog reading here. I’m glad your feeling better and were able to bike. Hooray!

Not sure if I told you, but a lot of how I’ve tweaked my eating has been after seeing what you post. Between your blog and 266’s blog I’ve learned a lot about how easy it is to incorporate fruits and veggies into daily meals/snacks.

Good luck on your May goals!! You’ll do great! 🙂

Cuss jar vacations could be the new trend! LOL.

So glad to see you back up and biking. I am planning to get my bike back out next week. Looking forward to some weekend biking trips again. 🙂

I would have to take out a bank loan if I were to implement a swear jar!

OMG lime coconut yogurt. I want it!!! I love anything lime. I also love the taste of coconut but don’t like the texture of the actual coconut.

Was so excited to see you in Shape magazine! You inspired me to get the New Rules of Lifting for Women…which I’ll get to any day now. I’m also a medical transcriptionist and I’m pretty happy where I’m at, though the hours can be annoying. Also, your husband is so adorable (sorry…).

Anyway, first time commenter and all…cheers!
