Liftin’ love

Chilly night last night, but I think we avoided the frost. Cold May so far! I biked to the gym after bundling up… brrrrr….. The gym was surprisingly busy today. I was unable to do my chin ups because somebody camped out in the squat cage and by the time he finished, I was near the end and couldn’t do any ๐Ÿ˜€

Exercise Set/rep/weight Muscle worked
Barbellย  deadlift 3 sets of 10 at 55# Lower body
Dumbbell flat chest fly 3 sets of 10 with 20# DBs (40# total) Chest
Straight arm pull down 3 sets of 15 at 40# Back
Horizontal Wood chop 3 sets of 10 (each side) 20# Abs
Stationary Lunges 3 sets of 8 each leg (body weight) Legs
Upright row 3 sets of 10 with 30# bar Shoulders
Kickbacks 3 sets of 15 with 12# DBs (24# total) Triceps
Incline Hammer Curl 3 sets of 6 with 15# DBs (30# total) Biceps
Seated calf raise 3 sets of 15 with 15# DBs (30# total) Calves
Close grip lat pulldown 3 sets of 12 at 50# Back

I just added an extra upper body move to replace the chin ups. Not happy with the stationary lunges. I could do one side fine, the other side I needed to support my weight because of leg weakness. Think I will still leave the split leg stuff for a while still.ย  Good strength workout today.

Then I biked home.ย  Took it easy on cardio today with 60 miles of biking under my belt from the weekend.ย  Trying to listen to my body!

Fall inspired breakfast, for whatever reason!ย  Cream of wheat cooked with 1.5 tsp of molasses, pumpkin pie spice, 1/2 cup of pumpkin.ย  Topped with 5 toasted pecans and crystalized ginger.

Very tasty.

This week starts MT appreciation week.ย  I received this from my employer:

I think I would rather have a raise :D.ย  I sort of got a kick out of this, because it almost is like saying we will work for peanuts with the little elephant.ย  I doubt anybody in management thought this way, but it is how my mind works…..ย  Sometimes I really wish I could talk more about my job because there is a lot of interesting stuff that goes on, but HIPPA regulations prohibit that, and I am not into that fine that would be levied.

Lunch break!

The last can of tuna for a while.ย  I mean it this time. LOL!ย  I’ll have to get omega 3s elsewhere….

Then there was snack time with my latte.ย  More of these on sale.

For as cold as it started today, we sure warmed up in a hurry to the upper 70s!ย  I finished up work and took a walk.ย  Then came back to John getting the grill hot.ย  He cooked up chicken for me – yay!ย  I sauteed brussel sprouts and cut up some left over sweet potato in there.ย  Pretty good.

A fairly uneventful day.ย  Evening snack while watching more of the Tour of California tonight, rain and all.ย  Plus a snack!

Tomorrow is a giveway – so stay tuned!ย  Looks kinda like this:

I might attempt some running tomorrow if the outlook seems good….

Great gym report. I’ve worked out at our local gym for about four years now, but I do the same 11 machines I started out with. You inspire me to change up my routine a bit and maybe add some free weights. Your breakfast sounds great. We have dreary, rainy weather for a couple days here and hot cereal might be just the ticket for tomorrow morning.

Tour of California is in our neck of the woods tomorrow…literally! We live on the flat part, but they go up into the mountains behind our city; it’s amazing up there. The only part I’ve ridden of Stage 3 is Montara to Half Moon Bay ๐Ÿ™‚ Maybe I’ll try those hilly parts someday.

How lucky you are to have the race so close! I was so excited when we went and saw professional bikers come by near us.

Funny how they think a stuffed animal is something adults would want “in appreciation” – but maybe I’m a little bitter when it comes to things like that, lol.

Good workout today – too bad about the chin ups. Next time you should approach the cage hog and say “look dude, it’s now or never for my chin ups” and see if he will give it up. (I would never actually approach anybody and say that, but have no problem suggesting it to you, haha!)

Hope you get a run in tomorrow, if you really want to do it.

I have missed checking in on you everyday!

That was a kick butt workout! I must get one of those in myself tomorrow!

Your biking amazes me AND inspires me Lori! Tomorrow is my off day from running and i just might pull the bike out and dust it off! I just hate the thought of going it alone. I’m so green with envy of you and hubby. Anything active i have to go it alone. I do the running alone……..and the thought of doing the biking alone too just gives me a lump in my throat. We even bought two brand new bikes months ago and only been on them once. I just have to get over it. Its a choice. Do it alone or don’t do it . I know i just need to find other like minded people but theres only one ‘people’ i want out there with me…ya know? Thanks for the inspiration although i’m not sure my hubby appreciates it LOL! deb

You may learn to love solo biking. I do go out fairly often by myself and really like a solitary ride. It is great to go with people, but sometimes exercising alone is exactly what you need!

Man, I don’t get the connection there at all. A stuffed elephant? An elephant never forgets that his employer is a nutty gift giving cheapskate? ๐Ÿ™‚

Sweet taters AND brussels sprouts? Nice combo. Would never have thought to put the two together like that. Yum.

I resemble the title of this post ๐Ÿ™‚
and SO GET YOUR COMMENT ABOUT THE RAISE.
I know you were kidding (kind of :)) but I tend to give people money or giftcards even just in the amount id have spend on the elephant, errr, gift ๐Ÿ™‚
    that way they can choose.

    have a great day!

Aaawwww! I love the elephant and I like your interpretation of the gift. Too funny. ๐Ÿ™‚

Once again, there are some good eats going on around your house.
    Lookin’ forward to the giveaway.

Yeah, I work for a xtralarge company. We get a lot of random “appreciation” stuff with company logos. I would rather the $5 they spent on it in starbuck gift cards or candy or something useful.

What a workout Lori! Your breakfast always looks so yummy. I have tried the pumpkin in the cream of wheat with nuts and dried fruit, mmmmm goood. Yea, I would have thought the same thing with the elephant lol.

I’m a couple of days behind on my blog reading, but I got caught up now. ๐Ÿ™‚ Love the hair cut! Way to go on the 45 mile bike ride! I went on my longest bike ride EVER this past weekend – 30.6 miles. I have to work up to 56 miles by Sept. Yikes.
After you gave us the Pumpkin Oats recipe, I only got to make it once. All the grocery stores around here are out of canned pumpkin. ๐Ÿ™ Your oats look soooo good to me today. ๐Ÿ™‚
