Making the food pretty.

Slice of Life Giveaway ends on Friday at noon!

Last day of my work week.  Yay!  I woke up a little too early today, and went down to make coffee only to find we didn’t have enough!  So I was on the porch at 7 am roasting coffee in my jammies.  John forgets to tell me sometimes when we are really low (or he tells me and I forget).

I decided on some pancakes today!  Just for something different.  Even though they are the protein ones I usually have.

Doesn’t this picture look extra good?

Topped with more Wymans.  I swear I should get a kickback from them.  I would love to tour their farm some time.

Got right to work.  With medical transcriptionist week, my company also has been doing little medical knowledge quizzes and stuff, and I have entered a few.  Well – my name got drawn out of a hat to win a $25 Visa gift card.  Yay!  It’s my lucky week 😀  So, I shouldn’t complain too much about the elephant.

Lunch time consisted of a little parfait.  The usual greek yogurt, strawberries, all-bran, and honey – only I layered it up.  I thought it would look really pretty in my glass bowl.

I also had a couple dates with nut butter because I hadn’t had much fat yet for the day.

Speaking of nut butter, I got the nicest surprise from Susan in the mail today:

More nut butter!  She made this maple pecan peanut butter and sent me some.  Notice the finger swipe in the container.  Cannot resist… it’s futile.

Thank you Susan!  I do hope to meet you for coffee and a bagel some time 😀

Afternoon latte after I finished up work for the week.

Yippee!  Can you tell I am happy it’s my weekend?  One thing that has happened since I started blogging my eats is that I take time to make the food look nice.  It’s such a habit now and it really does make the meal seem so much more enjoyable that way.  We do eat with our eyes first.

I went out into the garden and found a home for my new babies that came from Bluestone Perennials.

Astilbe and some more rudbeckia.  Hopefully they will take and bloom!

Dinner time was courtesy of Buitoni. I received a coupon for free pasta through the FoodBuzz Tastemaker program.

Whole wheat!  John whipped up some homemade marinara sauce.  He likes his chunky, but I pureed mine.  Not sure why, but I like smooth sauce.

This was 1/2 a serving of pasta, as it was a little hefty in calories for me.  320 for a whole portion.  I do love cheese ravioli.  This was quite good, too.  The ravioli were on the smaller side, so the portion looks bigger because of that.  You could tell it was whole wheat pasta, but still pretty tender.

It was so warm today that we decided on a post dinner yogurt ride.  Safety first:

We decided to go for 15 miles.  That is what I like to think of as a maintenance ride to keep the bike legs.  I needed a good ride anyway to gear up (harhar) for Saturday’s planned big ride.  My leg hurts today more than usual.  I don’t know if it was running the other day or if it would just be doing this anyway, but it’s really annoying today.  Can this thing be done with already? 🙄

My yogurt:

Tiramisu cheesecake flavor.  I nixed a topping tonight because I need to reign it in a little bit looking over the blog recently.  Tasty.  Time to relax!

Question:  Do you plate your food nicely?

lol that was the first thing I thought when I read about the visa $25 and then went to the next line about the elephant!! very cool.

My girls love that rav (and I do too but it is calorie dense).

    Froyo looks great too.

I try to plate nicely when I can. Going to do more experimenting this summer when this contest prep is over and I have more variety w/ my food… Check out this site for kids’ food fun I discovered recently: can definitely apply to us big kids too!!! http://anotherlunch.blogspot.com/

You’re absolutely right. Having the food look pretty makes it so much nicer. When I was growing up, my mom always set a pretty table with candles, flowers, etc. She made the food look nice too, especially after she learned not to cook the heck out of the veggies. LOL

I usually plate my food nicely. I like to get one dish at a time of unusual shapes. Usually white. But I usually eat my food before I remember to take a picture!

    Exciting to get new plants.

I got Costco frozen yogurt on my way home tonight. Wasn’t exactly in my food budget…

I try to plate my food nicely. When I have guests over, I try to imagine the colors and what it will look like on the plate. Sounds like a yummy flavor of yogurt!

Plate? LOL! I confess, much of my food is eaten directly from the pan/roaster or from a paper towel. And yes, those cherries looked fab on those pancakes. And I love those plants! And have a great (and painless) bike ride tomorrow! I hope to hit the trail Sunday if my knee cooperates.

Your food always looks so delicious and pretty no matter what you have. 🙂

I haven’t had blueberries in ages now. Can’t wait for the fresh ones! I just haven’t thought of buying the frozen ones lately. GASP! LOL.

I don’t know why but, comment luv is not picking up my new posts lately. hum?

  7. Paige (Two Runners And A Brown Dog)

I try to plate nicely. Recently, I bought some beautiful square plates. They are a pottery (glazed) style. The food just looks so much better on these plates, than the usual round white plates that I’ve been using for 10 years or more. I swear, the food tastes better when it’s presented nicely on a beautiful plate! 🙂 By the way, your pancakes look amazing!!!

Yummy pictures as always Lori. I just wanted to thank you for your comment today. It makes me think of you at the Dr. Oz show how you danced around in such excitement with no thought to anything but enjoying the moment. I definitely need lessons from you and I’m trying to take them. Self acceptance is truly the spice of life *smile*. Big hug to you Lori.

Lori, hope that leg feels better soon!

OK, after my post about your protein cookies & all these lovely pics, I am so wanting food! 🙂

I don’t do pretty plates… my friend in Colorado who hosted us there does & it really made me feel good. I need to do that more!

Your plates always look great! I pay attention to my plate too if I want to post it on my blog.

I want you to know that I’m busy at this moment, at work and at home, so I might not comment on every post you write but I do read them all! I just don’t have time right now to comment on every post as you are such a loyal writer every day 🙂

We really look alike, same age in almost the same time. Wasn’t 1968 a great year 🙂
The difference is that you are where I want to be someday but luckily for me I’ll always have you as my inspiration for that.

YAY you got the nut butter 😀 Funny, because I sent a little bit of it to Smoothie Girl Deb as well, and she got it in California before you did, and we’re on the same side of the continent! Too bad my food processor broke partway, it didn’t quite get to that creamy consistency before the motor blew. I’ve been putting it on my protein cakes at night. NOM 🙂

And yes, I always try to make my food pretty. Even before I started blogging and photographing it all. Have a great ride tomorrow!!
