Lanacane review/giveaway – don’t miss it!

Ah, the last work day of the week.  I decided to take a rest day and make it a no-added sugar day.

Last night involved a moving up to 6th grade for my niece:

They were all singing here.  We were in the very last row way in the back, so I am surprised I could get a shot at all.  2 really good pieces of advice were given to them before heading to the big middle school next year:

Choose your friends wisely

Wear a helmet  (Safety first, as I love to say)

Sound advice, no?

We had pizza and a cake that Logan made and decorated all by herself:

Also, some pretzel M&Ms were had by me, since my sister bought them!  Twice in one week – eek!

That kind of inspired the no-added sugar day today.  I started off with oats cooked with egg whites and made parfait style with my blueberry sauce:

Then got to work.  It has been a frustrating week.  Poor John is probably really tired of hearing me complain about my current employer.  I decided to accept a position with another company, but I am going to start part time and see how the fit is before I give up my current job.  It pays less and I won’t have my benefits, but the plus side is that I can work whatever hours I want, so I can mesh my work schedule with John’s (and no more weekends unless I feel like it).  They also seem very relaxed and laid back, which is a big change from my current whip-cracking company.  They also were understanding about me starting part time to test the waters with them (I was up front about that).  So, not sure when that all starts, probably some time next week – which means I will be busy!

Lunch break for some tuna salad and crackers:

Tuna is starting to wobble back off the ‘like’ list LOL!

When I do the no sugar days, I eat dates to satisfy my sweet tooth:

These are so soft and sugary, too.  Maybe it defeats the purpose, but at least I get fiber and potassium with the sweetness.

Very good paired with a latte.

Dinner involved an experiment:

Roasted radishes!  I actually like radishes on salads, but I thought I would try roasting them to see what happened.  I have to say that I prefer them raw.  They got soft and lost that bite that radishes have.  Maybe if I roasted them longer (20 minutes), they would have gotten crispy.

I have lots of paperwork to fill out tonight for the new position, and a nice walk in store.

Tonight’s snack will be some clementines!

John got these at the store, surprised to see them at this time of year.  They are very juicy and oddly pale.

See you tomorrow for more what’s blooming in my garden (there is a lot!).

Cute cake…your niece, not yet in middle school, can spell better than most of the decorators featured on Cake Wrecks! 🙂

I’m so envious that you are able to switch jobs so easily. I want to leave my current job, but my skill set is a dime a dozen and it’s hard to find another part-time job. I hope you love your new one and can ditch the old one soon – but I think it’s very wise that you test the waters first.

Oh, and when I first saw the roasted radishes, I was thinking that they were awfully white new potatoes!

Congratulations on having the courage to try out a new job! I hope it suits you to a T. And I have to thank you. I made your roasted cauliflower tonight (alongside roasted broccoli) and it was a hit all around. I love new (healthy) food finds. I went so far as picking up the package of dates at the store last week, with your treat in mind, but I’m not sure I trust myself with the whole package right now. I’m sure you’ve heard it before, but I like catching a glimpse of your ring in your pix. Is that your wedding ring?

That is my wedding band. My husband lost his ring, so we got these as replacements. Really inexpensive and get a lot of compliments on it 😀
Of course, my husband has also lost his matching ring for this set. I think we will just tattoo a design on him.

Your niece did a great job on the cake!

Cool that your new job will let you ease in. Good luck with it!

I am a fan of the radish and of roasted vegetables, but I don’t think I am going to try roasted radishes.

I think the dates are a great substitute on the no-sugar days. They still aren’t the same as the sugar/fat/salt combos in most sweets. I don’t know why I don’t eat them more. Except that they seem kind of ‘pricey.’ You know–high calories in a small package.q

Hai there my friend, catched up on your posts of last week. Nice bike ride you’ve had last weekend!

I’ve missed reading your posts and am happy to be back home. Vacation recap is on my blog.

Have a nice weekend my friend.

You’re very industrious taking on two jobs even if it’s only temporary. We spend so much time at our jobs, it’s best to try to enjoy it rather than just look at dollar signs. Good luck with the trial job.

As for radishes, I’m with you, love them raw. I was wondering about pickling them? Ever do that?

I don’t like pickles, so I have never done that with any food.

I am not looking forward to working 2 jobs for a bit, but at least I don’t have a commute@

Your neices cake looks great! Writing on cakes is one of the hardest parts of being a cake decorator. I hope the new job works out well. It’s no fun having so much stress in your life. I gotta try the dates, you make them look so good with nut butter in them.

What a wonderful celebration! Fun for all.. dang that cake looks good! 🙂

I hope the new work thing pans out for you. I would love to find work & that be work from home! Tough times now & just not a lot out there anywhere. But working from home, for me, that would be ideal! Good luck!

Congrats on the new job!! If the second one doesn’t work out, I may take you up on that cafe/bakery offer 😉

That cake is so cute. And also much better than any cake I’ve ever decorated.
