Quiet day and a much better ride.

Sunday and back to work again.  The weather has quieted down.  Since my chain was not working well and we had to go grocery shopping, we just drove to breakfast.  Back to Panera Bread for bagels!  We need more than 2 bagel places around here within an 8-mile radius.

Blueberry with reduced fat cream cheese

and 3 cups of coffee 😀

We then got all nicely stocked up on groceries.  Lots of fruit.  Strawberries, kiwis, bananas, dates, blueberries, apples, pears.  I we eat a lot of fruit during the week.

Work was slow today, so I ended getting more things done than anticipated.  I scrubbed my bike off and degreased and regreased the chain, and did general cleaning around the house.

Lunch break was chicken with laughing cow and some pan sauteed sweet potato slices.  Good that way.

Plus yummy blueberries!  I need to call the local farm and see if it is picking time yet….

With still no work available, I went out for a leisurely bike ride for 1.5 hours.

Much, much better ride than the craptacularness that was yesterday.  See how happy I am after arriving at the yogurt place?

I had some lemon yogurt with raspberry topping.

This combo was good, but I was expecting a more tart lemon, like sorbet.

See all the choices of flavors to choose from?  It’s almost too much.

Nice ride today.  14 miles round trip.  Active recovery day for me!

Still no work in the late afternoon.  We have to keep checking in every couple of hours when there are no files, just to make sure any stat reports get finished.  So, that is annoying because I don’t earn any money….

I decided to take that time and make an Indian dish for dinner called Palak Chole.  It is a spinach, tomato, and chick pea dish that was really easy to make, healthy and turns out to be vegan as well.  I will put a recipe page up with that hopefully tomorrow.

Yum!  I had mine with 1/2 of a Lavash bread.  Nothing like combining cuisines, right?  If someone had said to me 4 years ago that  I would be eating a dish that combined chick peas, spinach, and tomatoes and liking it, I would have said “Ick, no way!!”.  Oh what I have missed.

Got more weeding done tonight.  Doing good on controlling them this year so far.  Tonight’s snack:

Kashi!

And:

Summertime = berry time!  Yay!

Yay! I’m so glad today went better. I love reading about your rides and what you eat–I think that is where I’ll be when I ditch these last 25 pounds. Can I say I’m very impressed that you fixed your own bike problem? I am–maybe it’s my age showing, but I tend to rely on DH for those sorts of tasks. The car and mechanical things that need attention are his bailiwick and I’m the garden/cooking/shopping/laundry expert. Hmmm–maybe your deal is better!
I still need to look into shoe clips for my biking, maybe when we get back from our vacation later. I like what you said about them helping propel you up hills. I could use that!

I forgot to answer your question. Yes, I do eat brown rice pasta once in awhile…spelt has gluten in it and I also got hives from spelt bread…boo!

I try not to eat too many carbs, so I am trying to invent carbless versions of carby foods…like noodless lasagna. That was a crapload of made up words. 🙂

Good lookin’ grub especially the coffee!!!! I heard this morn. on NPR that 5 cups per day just might help fight off alzheimers. I’m thinking how fast my legs might go with that much caffeine?! Course, mice are different than men so that finding is not 100% conclusive.

    That dinner looks delicious.

Glad that your bike ride yesterday was so much better than Saturday.

I really need to plan a visit to you, if only for the bagles for breakfast 🙂 yum!

My favorite part of summer are the fresh berries too. This weekend I experienced “sylvan berries.” I don’t think I’d had them before but they were delicious! Sort of a mix of raspberries and blackberries.

    1) Is that the frozen yogurt place you were talking about in your comment the other day?? That sounds like such a treat to bike there!

    2) Also, did you say you’d been to Ottawa before? I was thinking of you yesterday as my sister took my out on the biking paths here. There are hundreds of miles of paved paths in and around the city that go along the various waterways. It’s beautiful, you and John would love it!

    3) Curiosity just hit me – I know you don’t focus *as much* on protein as I do, but do you ever make up for it elsewhere on bagel days? Or does the bagel work out to a decent amount of protein anyways?

    4) You should be a professional bagel photographer!!

Yep – that is *the* yogurt place. It’s right on the bike path, so a natural destination 😀

I have been to Ottawa quite a few times. In college, it was only about an hour and a half away, so we went there.

As for the protein, usually I have a protein drink before heading out riding to breakfast, so I don’t worry too much about not having enough with the actual bagel. Otherwise I try to make it up later in the day.
