Ponies and pumpkin pop tarts

Happy Monday! I am so glad you all enjoy our biking recaps. They really are so much fun for me. I decided to take it a little easier today and just do some lifting, but no cardio other than the bike to and from the gym (which barely counts). I have noticed that it is darker and darker now. I am going to have to shift my gym time a little later in the coming weeks while I am still biking so it is light out! I usually leave the house a little before 7.

Exercise Set/rep/weight Muscle worked
Split barbell squat 3 sets of 10 at 55# Lower body
Dumbbell Pullover 3 sets of 10 with 25# DB Back
Seated Calf Raise 3 sets of 10 at 110# Calves
Decline Sit ups 3 sets of 10 Core
Straight Arm Pull down 3 sets of 10 at 50# Back
Incline Pushups 3 sets of 12 Chest
Front Raise 3 sets of 10 with 8# DBs (16# total) Shoulders
Bench Dips 3 sets of 10 Triceps

I did incline push ups today because my left biceps/shoulder area has been bothering me the last couple weeks with any pushing motions.  So, I eased up on the move.

Cool and damp day today.  I got home craving hot coffee and protein waffles!  I also wanted to eat really clean because I ate too much food at a party yesterday.

We have a busy time going on right now. September is kind of the wrap up to the family doings before we hit the holiday kickoff. Both of my nieces have birthdays, my sister and BIL have an anniversary, John and I have our anniversary, my MIL has a birthday, and my mom has a birthday! That is a busy month, especially this week we are currently in.   Here are a couple pictures from the party yesterday.

We never had ponies at our parties…

I consumed too much pizza and Doritos, although I declined any cake (like it really made a difference at that point).

Anyway, back to today. Lunch time! I actually found some bleu cheese Laughing Cow at a different store on Saturday, which was just screaming to have some sort of buffalo chicken thing made out of it. Enter the open faced sammie – aka “uitsmijter” 😀

This was a slice of toast spread with laughing cow, topped with cooked chicken breast and Frank’s!  I have to say it was quite good.  I had a bunch of strawberries on the side that somehow escaped the lens.

Trying to cram too much into a day.  I got half of that big soap order shipped out.  It’s done, it just needs to get out the door.  Plus working and thinking about getting ready for my trip this weekend.  Got lots to do this week!

I desperately needed my latte today:

No honey or chocolate drizzle because today is a no-added sugar day.  I actually had to plan this day in because I have 2 dinners out this week at least – and not sure what is happening Friday other than being on the road during dinner.

No sugar also meant changing up my snack I usually have with the latte:

I do tend to want to over do the nuts on no-sugar days.

Baked clam strips are back in the house!  We stocked up (along with the bleu cheese LC) at Price Chopper.

So I see that Kellogg’s has put out a completely evil product.  Have you seen these?

😯 😯 😯   I have to confess to a love of Pop Tarts.  I almost never eat them, but I have a biog soft spot for them (somewhere around my left mid thigh, I think).  I have to think long and hard about getting these…

Question:  Do you shift your workout times based on the seasons?

I don’t usually change up the times because I’ve figured out the perfect time & day to go swimming. When it comes to running, I really do prefer to go during lunchtime. It’s nice having my evenings free! During the summer I took earlier lunches to avoid the heat, though.

My workout times only get adjusted per the school year; during summer vacation, I can do more stuff outside, whereas during the school year, I’m sort of constrained by the school schedule. (Which usually means squeezing in more lunchtime workouts.) Biking outside during the school year is usually limited to weekends or school holidays, sadly.

Pumpkin pie Pop Tarts?!?! Okay, I’m going to do my husband a favor and pretend I *never* saw that; he loves both of those items. (And sheesh, not like you can have one packet and foist the rest onto your co-workers, either.) This was evil of them, but at least they didn’t make them with cream cheese frosting, or make a pumpkin cheesecake version.

Nicely done on your no-sugar-added day!

I never had ponies at my parties either . . . . I’m going to have to figure things out with the exercise and the changing weather and light conditions. Summer, even tho hot & muggy for running, was great in terms of timing for me. I’m hoping to ride at least into November, but we’ll see. Maybe the time change will help a bit.

My primary form of exercise is walking so yes, I change with the seasons. In the summer, I try to walk early in the day because if I don’t get it done, I’m force to walk in the mall which I detest. Winter finds me walking in the early afternoon. Fall also brings hiking season back in the picture and I try to hike at least once each week.

I’m in the process of changing up my workout times right now. Mornings are getting darker and afternoons are getting cooler, so I might just shift the timing of my runs. Plus, it is looking like my strength workouts will change too. I can’t wait to get it figured out. I like living my routines!

Hey Lori…too funny, I was just reading your blog as you were posting on mine. Thank you!!! I just bought some of the BC Laughing Cow today. Can’t wait for a buffalo chix concoction. Also heard about the pumpkin pop tarts today. I also love pop tarts. I absolutely can not have them in the house. I’ve never bought them for my kids because it’s too dangerous for me. I may have to try the pumpkin ones. 🙂

Nope…my workout times don’t shift with the seasons. Since I work out of the house, have two small kids and a workout nut hubby I still take the time I can get and find. It’s different from day to day, but pretty much the same week after week.

Have a great night! You rock and continue to be a huge inspiration to me!

I’m doing the Hot 100 and just stopping by to say hi. Wow! You are an inspiration!!!!

(I’ve never heard of Pumpkin Pie Pop Tarts but they sound heavenly.)

I have some flexibility with my work schedule and have been thinking of shifting my schedule a couple of days a week as we get farther into fall and winter. I’d like to continue to ride a couple of days during the week, depending upon the weather.

We have a little latte machine by Mr. Coffee that does the espresso and steams the milk. I should do a post on it. 😀

Are you scandinavian? My hubby is norweigan so i’ve learned a lot about open faced sandwiches. How cool!

i’m not at a point yet where i can modify what i eat to match the day .. every day has to be low-carb. and i work out when i can.

which reminds me. i haven’t done much yet today. thanks. Vee at http://veegettinghealthy.blogspot.com

Glad to hear that you liked the LC Bleu cheese flavor – I still haven’t found it, but I like your combination idea!

I guess I do change my workout times – especially running – I remember last winter waiting until around 2pm to run, as it was finally warm(ish). Can’t imaging going for a run in the afternoon now…but in a few months? Sure!

I’ve been taking a walk in the almost-dark for the last few weeks. A little dangerous with all three dogs and a very uneven road. So I am going to be forced to change my walk times. I have this idea of going to the gym and timing my treadmill workout to coincide with Oprah, but so far that hasn’t worked out much either.

That looks like a great party, I never had ponies either at my parties as a child.

I don’t really shift my workouts because in a while I will be leaving home for work in the dark and return in the dark. When I run in the morning these days it’s dark, I don’t really like it but it’s getting lighter around 8 am and then I have to be at work. I’m used to walking in the dark with the dog after dinner. I don’t really like it but it is what it is. What I do change is that I usually clean my bathroom every two weeks on Monday night but now it’s dark I can’t see it all that well and shifted that to Saturday which means my long run on that day moves to Sunday.

As far as I’m concerned one of the reasons to consider training for a marathon is because I get to eat an occasional pop tart. Believe it or not they are excellent fuel on a long run!

Good job restraining yourself with the nutty mix. I can overdo nuts at any given time.
