What was that taper plan again?

Another beautiful fall day.  I actually debated about switching up my rest day to today as I couldn’t really decided what I wanted to do.  John said it was unusually flexible of me to change like that.  Hmmmm…..  I always plan my workouts, but I guess I always thought of myself as flexible if need be.  Isn’t it funny how you can be perceived differently than what is in your head?

Anyway, I soaked some steel cut oats overnight, so they were ready to cook up with some pumpkin.

Yes – I topped these oats with some ginger bits and cream cheese frosting left over from what we brought to dinner on Sunday.  And it was so good!  Candy corn bowl makes me want to put candy corn on my oats.  It may well happen some time.

A couple questions came up in the comments.  Suzi asked about if I had anything to eat before going out in the mornings.  I do.  Normally I have a protein drink before going to the gym.  I just stopped taking a picture of it because it is pretty much the same every day.  If I am doing a longer workout, I will have more carbs like toast and jam or an energy bar.

Joanne asked more about the duathlon.  Here is the link to it.  The entry fee benefits the Towpath, so that is always good.  It is a 2.2 mile run/16 mile bike/2.2 mile run.  Not superly long, but quite hilly.

Lunch time!  Egg sammie today!

I had gotten a coupon through FoodBuzz for a free loaf of Nature’s Pride bread, so that is why you have seen all of these sandwiches lately (not to mention what we have baked).

These clementines are so tiny!  And they have a thicker peel, so they are even smaller once you get the skin off.  They are in place of strawberries this week, as the strawberries just didn’t look totally fresh.

I was my own barista today and forgot to take a picture of my latte.  I did, however, remember to take a picture of the candied pecan cupcake with maple icing!  We saved 2 of these out and took the rest on Sunday.

This really was tasty.  Maple butter cream rocks!  Wish there was some of that left to put on pumpkin oatmeal…  Fall is so awesome 😀

My neighbors put up their big inflatable lawn ornaments today:

John says no inflatable lawn ornaments for us.  Good thing he said that because I would get a big Tigger to put out.

So, I basically threw my taper plan out the window after 2 days. LOL.  Today I was going to do a small brick, but I realized that I didn’t feel like running today and there is not much more I can do this week that will make any difference on Sunday.  The other reason is that I wanted to bike to dinner, which would have been too long of a workout with a run in there.  I am supposed to be relaxing this week, after all.  We took advantage of the weather to bike to my football dinner.  Yes – I won the picks again (I am the swammee).

East End Eatery with the bikes (locked up, of course)

That building across the street is for rent.  That could be some cool coffee shop or a place to sell said candied pecan maple frosted cupcakes…. Just sayin’

Salad starter:

Then John and I split a cheese calzone.  I can eat about 3/4 of one of these on my own, so it is actually nice to share and just have half so I don’t get stuffed.

Put your hands in the air for gooey cheese!

Lovely sunset shot on the bike path going home.  That’s John riding away from me there, too.

I had to haul ass to catch up to him.  Good practice for the duathlon    I ended up biking 12 miles today.

Pink item of the day – my magic gloves!  Those little tiny ones that stretch over your hands.  I wear these under my bike gloves on cold days.

Question:  Do you decorate for Halloween?

OH MAN! That calzone looks amazing. I would eat that whole thing.

I used to really go all out with Halloween decorations but not so much these days. I think this year I will decorate. We have a lot of kids in the neighborhood and I wish we had decorations.

I’m glad you’re easing up on your taper schedule…I thought that was pretty heavy, considering you are supposed to be resting up, lol!

We used to decorate a lot for Halloween with skeleton lights, pumpkin lights, all sorts of things. But with the kids gone now we hardly do anything…and this year, we will be gone, so our house will be the dark foreboding one to the trick or treaters!

Mmmm, another one waving her hands in the air for gooey cheese! That calzone looks yummy! And biking to dinner with your honey on a beautiful fall evening? Trumps the heck out of whatever other workout you had planned, in my book.

We had lots of fun putting up our inside decorations for Halloween. We don’t do much on the outside, other than jack o’ lanterns. Thing 2 was most impressed by her friend’s decorations – they had this huge spooky graveyard and skeleton scene in their front yard – but we just don’t have that kind of storage. I wouldn’t mind something like that cat and jack o’ lantern inflatable, though! Too cute!

Lori, I am really not into pumkin that much, but you really make the pumkin dishes look appetizing!

For the record, I am with John – no inflatable lawn ornaments at my house either.

I love how you guys in the states really go for it with halloween, we are so boring in the UK! I usually still carve a little pumpkin and make a halloween feast for me and the hubby (usually containing the pumpkin removed from the lantern and apples! oh and candy!)

    That gooey cheese looks amazing!

I always have a training plan (and a taper plan,) but it never goes exactly the way I set it up! I’m sure you’ll be fine for your du. Good luck!

I decorate the inside of the house, but just put pumpkins (and maybe corn stalks) outside. My sons REALLY want me to buy some inflatable for the yard, but I think we’ll save that for Christmas. 🙂

I foresee a little bagel/cupcake/oatmeal/coffee shop in your future! Oh, and maybe you will serve a panini or two! Thanks for the panini instructions. I am one who also does not have room for another machine, but that would be a fun sandwich to make sometime.

    hands in the air…WOOOOO HOOOOOOOO

so I would be the total crazed cat lady decorated all out on holidays if my husband could tolerate it. I am happy if we get Christmas lights out , but then I have to hear him grumble about them going out or the cost of electricity…GAW.

    ba humbug.

I try. I put window clings everywhere just to get even. haha
    OH OH
I signed up for a 5K Sunday…the race for the cure! FINALLY gettin my first 5K in!
I have days where I totally need to plan my workouts and days where I just like to FEEL IT.

I’m never the same! GOOD FOR YOU, and get rest!!!

I’m as inflexible as one can be when it comes to my workouts. In fact I plan mine 4 weeks ahead and don’t change it. If I don’t feel like doing the planned workout I usually skip  would be better to do something else instead, I know. I’m still learning 😆

We don’t celebrate Halloween so no decorations here. I only decorate for Christmas.

Totally got my hands in the air for the split calzone and the cupcake!
I love those inflatable lawn decorations. Found four I wanted this Halloween alone. Can you see why the hubs is glad we don’t have an actual lawn. Plus in LA it would probably be stolen anyway 🙁
Sounded like a lot of workout to me. Best of luck on the duathlon!

    That calzone looks amazing!

I do not decorate for Halloween…or any holiday. We don’t have any storage space for decorations so we don’t bother. My daughter decorates my parent’s house. I like Halloween decorations though. They are fun! 🙂

Tigger is my no. favorite out of all the Pooh characters!
We don’t decorate for Halloween but do just a tad to get into the Fall spirit. We usually go to a big Halloween bash where everyone is required to come up with a costume, to the point of acting out a small skit when you enter the house. It gets out of control. This year, we’re passing since October is a crazy month. I’m the party pooper since the weekend of Halloween will be our first relaxing weekend of the month. I want to snuggle with my hubby and not with a bunch of dressed up Frankensteins.

I haven’t had a calzone since college…____ yrs ago. 😉 (not telling but it was way too long ago).
