What’s Blooming and Hot 100 update

Okay, I guess I am a complete dork with the sandals and socks 😳   (along with Jan LOL).

It’s Friday!  That means only half a day of work for me, yippee!  I also did not go to the gym this morning as I am running a race tomorrow, which means no lifting the day before.  So, I started right in on work to get it done for the day.  Then made some Fall breakfast.  Pumpkin cream of wheat topped with fluff and pecans!

Gotta use that candy corn dish 😀

When I was poking in the garden the other day, I saw some new blooms, can you believe it?

Expected:  The burning bush.

We planted this 3 years ago as a tiny bush and it now looks lovely!  We tried growing them in IL, but the bunnies kept eating them to nubs, so I am happy now.  Don’t those daylilies look like some kind of squid next to it?

Of course, the mums just give a hand to the frost and keep going:

The knockout rose bush is *still* going.  If you have a black thumb, get the knockout.  You cannot kill it.

Surprise gaillarda:

And a hidden doppleganger ecchinacea.  This is sheltered amongst other plants and actually has 2 buds on it.

My personal truffula tree:

And the pink item of the day – snapdragons!

The Breast Cancer Site

You wouldn’t think it was almost Halloween, would you?

Lunch tine and I had a hankering for peanut butter.  Homemade blueberry jam on top.

I am glad I only got 2 of these plums…

Okay – here is this week’s Hot 100 Update:

  1. Maintain my weight. I really need to work on this big time.
  2. No eggnog lattes until Thanksgiving day!  Not in stores yet.
  3. Do the duathlon and at least 1 more 5K race before the end of the year. Did the home duathlon.  5K coming up tomorrow!
  4. Do stretching exercises 4 days a week at least.  Did 6 days!!
  5. Visit one new blog each week that is participating in the Hot 100 Challenge and cheer them on.  Been visiting.
  6. Do one no-added sugar day each week.  Done.

I am doing fine on all but the eating.  I really am struggling with the snacking.  It’s the evening stuff that is the problem.  I am having a tough time regulating the less exercise with eating less.

So, with that update said, this is the snack I had.  Remember last night I said John had out the puff pastry?  He made apple strudel.

Yeah – it’s good.  At least he made a small one LOL!

I finished up work and did some retail therapy at TJMaxx.  I picked up some Philosophy shower gel!  Yay!

Dinner time had some extra carbs in it in the form a potato!

I want to also say good job to the people involved who intercepted those explosive devices.  Scary stuff…

Tonight is keeping warm, as the temps at race time tomorrow will be 37!  That is a chilly race.  I plan on being a bumblebee, but I may nix that in favor of warmth 😀

I am dissecting a DOGGIE bee costume to turn it into a Pollen Jock for my toddler for Sunday.

we’re bee central at our home.
I still need to figure out how to fit in my Virtual Race. At least yours is a real race!

I say we start a new fashion “must”! Go socks and sandals!!! LOL

Love all the flowers you still have. Our burning bush was a gorgeous colour this year but now it is completely bare. 🙁

Hee hee. Many would ban me to the dork squad for still wearing Crocs…and fake ones, at that. 😉

Wow, can’t believe how many flowers you still have blooming! I think you might have more than us at this point. One of the camellias is popping a little early, though.

My tummy is rumbling – your pumpkin cream of wheat with pecans and fluff looks especially good!

And good luck with your 5K this weekend! Mine will have to be virtual, but I will get to try out my new running shoes…walking, that is, until I get the inserts for them. (Unless of course the rain comes, and then maybe I’ll do the same time on my stationary bike instead.)

Love your flowers! I have 5 knockout rose plants. They ROCK! Oh, I wanted to report that I made the quinoa-pumpkin pancakes this morning. They were tasty, but I need to experiment with the proportions a bit as mine were a bit too wet. Doing them on the stovetop grill did give them lovely grill marks and a crispiness that I like in my pancakes. I used 1/4 c quinoa, 1/2 c skim milk, 2 T egg beaters, and 1/4 c pumpkin plus a generous sprinkle of cinnamon. Maybe less milk next time or letting the cooked quinoa cool and drain/dry more before I cook with it. I topped mine with 10 calories worth (1.5 T) of sugar free syrup. YUM!

Best of luck in your race tomorrow!

That sounds very good. I bet just reducing the milk by half or leaving it out might do the trick!

I do love the knockouts, but I wish they had scent!

Good luck tomorrow on your 5K. I know you’ll be right up there with everyone that finishes. How about 1st. Good luck. Thank you for picking me this week to check in on. Steve and his Hotties are some pretty cool people and I am so glad you found me to find you.
Take care and I love all those beautiful plants. God Bless!!!

I love your flower photos. Many of my flowers were still blooming here in Minnesota–until we had a hard freeze last night. Now the best we can hope for is some Indian summer before the snow flies.

Brrrr! It is cold today in NYC — bet you’ll have some very nippy upstate temps for your run. Maybe that will help you zip along? Hope you have a good time, and get to wear your costume.

Good luck at the race today! Chilly weather makes me run faster most of the times.

Can’t believe how much still is blooming in your garden, in my garden it’s over. Autumn has definitely started there.

Dorky, maybe, but we adore you anyway. Or maybe ‘because of’? 😀 Most of us have a dorky side. I embrace mine.

Knockout roses are on my ‘to buy’ list for next spring. It’s a long list. 🙂

How fun to see flowers especially in your colder climate. I’m out here w/Pubsgal, but no flowers either…

I saw an amazing apple cake which I just might make as is for a potluck, or I might try to ‘healthy up. 4 cups of apples!

Yum yum on the potato. I think they have become a winter ‘veggie’ for me…

I hope you had a great race! I can’t wait to see pictures! 🙂 I agree, good job to the people who caught those explosives- it really is scary. Chicago is a lot closer to home for me- when will this end? I’m thinking not any time soon…this is probably the new norm these days. So sad. 🙁
