Month in rewind and November goals

Last night I put the flannel sheets on the bed. It was so hard this morning to wake up in the dark and think about going outside to go to the gym! But until I set up a squat rack at home, off I go.

It was very quiet at the gym this morning. Maybe a candy hangover from Halloween?

Exercise Set/rep/weight Muscle worked
Barbell Squat 1 set of 10 at 45#

1 set of 8 at 65#

1 set of 8 at 75#

1 set of 6 at 85#

1 set of 5 at 90# <—- yippee!

Lower body
Dumbbell Pullover 3 sets of 10 at 25# Back
Barbell Bench Press 1 set of 12 at 45#

2 sets of 8 at 55#

Chest
Reverse Crunches 3 sets of 15 Core
Calf Raise 3 sets of 10 at 140# Calves
Lower Back Extension 3 sets of 10 at 100# Low back
Lying Triceps extension 3 sets of 12 with 12# DBs (24# total) Triceps
Single leg Deadlifts 3 sets of 10 each leg with 20# DBs (40# total) Hammies and balance
Upright Row 3 sets of 10 at 30# Shoulders

I tried doing some incline chest work, but that caused shoulder pain, as do full push ups and holding a plank. Grrrrr….. Getting better, but still annoying. I am pleased about adding weight to the squat, though. 100# by year’s end – pinky swear.

Came home to make up some breakfast:

Did you look around to see if you were on Finding Radiance? LOL.  Yes – I had eggs for breakfast!  This omelet had a laughing cow wedge and a crumbled morningstar sausage patty in there.  It was quite tasty.  Today is a no-added sugar day for me and I felt like something different.

Here were my goals for October:

  • One no-added sugar day a week.  Done!
  • Get the scale back below red line as it crept up in Sept. Not done.
  • Hopefully do the duathlon with a goal to beat 1:55. We ended up doing the home duathlon, but completed nonetheless.
  • Work on the side garden bed.  Done!
  • Run the goblin gallop 5K .  Done!
  • Post a photo of something pink each day to raise awareness of breast cancer.  I missed just one day.   Hopefully a lot of you clicked and helped provide free mammograms to those that needed.  Thanks!

So, overall a good month.  I did not lose weight during October.  That was just a matter of too much snacking.  So, that will be first and foremost on November’s agenda.  I’ll get to those goals in a bit.

Here is the garden bed.

I just did a 10-foot strip.  That’s our neighbor’s driveway.  Hope they don’t drive into my new bed… It will take a few years to do the whole side of the house.  I will be dreaming up lots of stuff over the winter time for this fresh patch of soil! 😀

Slow work morning.  Somebody at job #2 fell asleep at the switch and didn’t batch files until the afternoon.  So, I did get some chores done.

Lunch time was some vegetarian chili I made last night from this recipe:

So, here are the goals I have for November (some of these coincide with the Hot 100 challenge, which I am also still doing).

  • Lose weight this month.  My pants are feeling tight.  I am not putting a number on how much to lose, just some.  I don’t want to focus too much on a specific number.  I will do this by reducing snacking and trying to match my caloric needs with my meals and exercise.
  • Do a turkey trot on Thanksgiving.  I doubt I will do the organized one, but I want to run at least 4 miles on Thanksgiving day.  Maybe also just increase my mileage a bit this month as biking is winding down (at least until my trainer arrives).
  • Organize my bedroom closet (scary!).  I’ll even post a picture before and after.
  • No eggnog until Thanksgiving (latte or otherwise).  Those that know me know how dearly I love the nog.  It’s on the scale of candy corn love.

Speaking of lattes: Latte time!

I just sprinkled cinnamon on top.  I don’t miss sweetness in this drink because I don’t drink sweetened lattes. I just may put a little honey or chocolate drizzle on the foam, but not the drink itself.  BTW – we purchase cinnamon in a 1 pound bag 😳

It was hard not wanting to snack before dinner, and I did have a couple Triscuits, but at least it wasn’t a bunch spread with Nutella!  I heated up some chicken (with hot sauce) and added one of the macintosh apples we picked up on Saturday.

Oh my gosh was this a good apple!  Sometimes those humongous apples don’t have the concentration of flavor that smaller ones do, and really fruit in general, I think.  More cinnamon sprinkled on this apple and it was soooo tasty!  You would think that I would eat apples more considering Johnny Appleseed is in my lineage, wouldn’t you?  I need to figure out where the pears and berries come in.

Tonight’s snack will be Halloween leftovers (with some cashews).  This is what we got:

I am very okay with having pretzels in the house.   If they were Reeses PB cups, that would be a whole ‘nuther story!

Tuesday’s recipe of the day will be Almond Joy Oats, so hope you check in for it 😀

Question: Do you have lots of Halloween leftovers?

We didn’t get very many trick-or-treaters this year. Which is weird. We usually have throngs of children.:( So we have tons of candy leftover. I put it in the freezer. 😉

I love flannel sheets in cold weather but the BF gets too hot so I can’t use them. Boo.

oh that omelet looks really good! Mine never come out that purty. Snacking…so hard to keep a hold of it, esp when you work at home. I put on A LOT of my current weight when I was working part-time at one job and then at home the rest of the time sitting at my computer doing other work. So easy to call the corner deli and have them order a tuna melt and fries for lunch, which I did all too frequently, then snack the rest of the day away. Finally realized that working at home is something I can only do in small doses. Snacktastic opportunities abound! At least at a coffee shop I have to dig into my pocket to pay for whatever I want to eat – tends to cut off the mindless noshing. Good luck with November’s goals!

I like the idea of having a no-added sugar day – might steal that one! I’m trying to avoid sugar totally (as in candy and food that doesn’t have any nutrition value) but added sugar would be a good goal for me too…and EGG NOG, yum! Bought it TODAY but only had a taste as I shouldn’t eat eggs (skin issues)…there’s a gluten-free eggfree “nog” that is low cal/fat so I’ll buy that once I see it. LOVE the egg nog taste. I was just thinking that I need to get out my eggnog-like recipes out. Bought the 50% off halloween candy for the kids stockings today – it will stay in the packages until Dec23 or so. It’s in DH’s closet. And, speaking of closet cleaning, I was just thinking today of doing the same – cleaning out my closet and taking before & after shots. EEK! Don’t know if I want to show anyone how my closet looks right now!

We had more trick-or-treaters than we usually do, but luckily we had plenty of candy and *just enough* glow stick bracelets (they were $1 for 15 sticks at Michael’s, and kids seemed to really like them). Leftovers + stuff the kids didn’t like went to the office. I’m usually pretty immune once it’s at the office, but someone else brought in their peanut butter cups. :-O Luckily they were in the bag with the nutrition info, and reading that made me (a volume girl if ever there was) feel a lot better about eating my apple and peanut butter snack.

And go, you, with those 90 lb squats!!! Woot!

No leftovers here, because I didn’t buy any. Not many tricksters around here, plus the neighborhood church had a big party Sunday afternoon. I saw lots of families walking over there, which may have contributed to the lack of early evening foot traffic. Fine by me. 🙂

I’m enjoying apples, too, right now. So sweet and crisp and juicy! *happy sigh*

You are so good with your goals! Wouldn’t hurt me to make one or two. Plus I like that you make realistic goals.

Apples. Yumm. I have a ton here, but none as good as I can get at Apple Hill. Hope to get up there soon.

I’m the Grinch who stole Halloween. This is the third year in a row that I didn’t buy candy. We keep the lights off. I don’t feel bad because Halloween is a huge deal in our neighborhood, they had a big party for the kids at the clubhouse with inflatables and all sorts of games and pizza so no one missed out and we didn’t have to be tempted by candy. I made a lovely roast chicken for supper that was simply wonderful!

Lori, so sorry about your shoulder & hoping it heals soon! Great workout though! You push some heavy leg weights! I get too big in the legs. I am lifting a bit heavier though now due to age & things not wanting to stay tight BUT watching to make sure I don’t build more than I want to.. when I was your age, I could build! 😉 HA, the when I was your age thing…. I know!

No left over candy here…. did not buy much as we don’t get may kids…

I too have my flannel sheets on the bed. Looks like you did well with your October goals. Good luck with the November ones I’m sure you’ll do well again. I bought popcorn balls for the trick or treaters (we got none). They are only 100 calories apiece so not calling me from the kitchen but I’ve had a few in the past week lol.

No kids at my house so no candy, which is just fine and dandy with me. Alhthough I did think about buying some to give to the dentist who is collecting for our troops.

I like how you set your goals then honestly reflect on them, without judgement on yourself as a person. Strange concept for a perfectionist like me. I think I can learn from you 🙂

Also love, l-o-v-e that you didn’t set a number for your weight loss. Just lose some. What a fascinating idea!

My kids didn’t trick or treat this year, so I bought them each one small bag of candy. It’s in the pantry and it’s theirs. i’ve only had two pieces.

I learned about peanuts and candy corn this year, SO YUMMY! 😀 So, I gave the rest of my mix away and only have about a cup of each left. I measure it in a medicine cup on my scale and then make myself eat it s.l.o.w.l.y. That is some addicting stuff.

So, not much candy around, but lots of cans of pumpkin that I will be baking up soon…and giving away to let it get on someone else’s hips and not mine. Sad, but fun for me! LOL 😛

So frustrating are those aches and pains that interfere with exercise plans. Take it easy, it will heal.

Yes, we have some mini candy bars left over but I’m going to put them to great use and make a batch of candy bar cookies. Hope they freeze well then I can put them out at Thanksgiving…maybe Christmas but that might be pushing it.

No Halloween leftovers but I guess you are not surprised by that 🙂

You did great on your October goals and your November goals look great too. I do have a number in mind where I want to end with my weight but all I do now is try to lose some every week, doesn’t matter how much as long as I lose something. I don’t have a date in mind either when I want to be at goal weight.
I pay more attention to my workout goals that I reach them this month.

  14. Mabelle

Hi Lori! I love your idea of posting your monthly goals on your blog. I might steal your idea if you dont mind :). By the way, I changed my blog’s name recently. Just in case you’re wondering who this is. Best of luck on your november goals!!!!!
