Back to routine? Not so fast.

Well, rather large change happened to me today, which I was totally not expecting.ย  But let’s start with the morning first, shall we?

It’s getting harder and harder to leave the house in the morning. There seems to be a correlation between the dropping temperature and my desire to go outside ๐Ÿ˜€ย  At least it is showing some hints of being light out before 7 now.ย  That means spring is almost here, right??

Exercise Set/rep/weight Muscle worked
Cable Squat to Row 3 set of 10 at 60# Full body
Dumbbell Pull Over 3 sets of 10 at 30# Back
Lying Leg Press 3 sets of 10 at 100# Lower Body
Reverse Crunches 3 sets of 15 Core
Pushups 3 sets of 10 Chest
Nose Breakers 3 set of 15 at 25# Triceps
Bent Lateral Raise 3 sets of 10 with 15# DBs (30# total) Shoulders
Seated Calf Raise 3 sets of 10 at 140# Calves
Lower Back Extension 3 sets of 10 at 100# Low Back

Felt good today. I haven’t lifted since last Wednesday, so I was rested and strong. Makes me think I need to either drop full body down to 2 days a week or start up a split routine.ย  I do need to shake something up at any rate.

I came home for some brekkie and decided to break out the peanut flour!

This is what it looks like.

This is the most basic thing you can do with it.ย  Mix it with water to make peanut butter.

Now, you do need to add a bit of salt or sweetener to make it taste more like peanut butter, otherwise it is pretty bland.ย  I added a tiny pinch of salt.

Then I made some cream of wheat with egg white whisked in and topped with the newly formed PB. With some chocolate honey.

See how much that makes?ย  That is about 55 caloriesย  for 2 tbsp versus 100 for a tablespoon of regular PB.ย  Not that I am giving up the nut butter, but this is a nice alternative when I just want more.

I need to do some ‘sperimenting with it.ย  I see the 1-minute muffin being a possibility, or possibly some kind of soup.

Speaking of muffins,ย  John made up some of his protein muffins while I was away.ย  He did them lemon poppyseed flavor.ย  I had to have half of one crumbled over some greek yogurt with strawberries for lunch.

This was excellent!ย  Although I wish it was not so cold outside ๐Ÿ˜€

So on to my afternoon. Those of you on Facebook already know what I am going to say here.ย ย  After lunch, I got an instant message from my supervisor at job #1 asking if she could call me.ย ย  Phone calls usually are not a good sign as pretty much everything is conducted by email or instant message.ย  Effective immediately, all part-time employees have been laid off due to slow work.ย  No warning or anything.ย  Just done in the middle of the day, no finishing of the day.ย  They want to preserve all the work for the full-time employees.ย  Then they actually had the nerve to ask if I wanted to be put on their waiting list to come back if work picked up.ย  ๐Ÿ™„ย  No thanks.ย  Phone call ended with “Good luck”.ย  Not even a thank you for all the work.ย  Nice, eh?ย  2 years of work for them and booted out just like that.

Good thing I have the 2nd part-time job, which I hope can become full time until I figure out what to do.

John made lattes and I thought about the situation.

Bright side – no Sunday work unless I want to and no set schedule.ย  Plus I get all my accrued time off in one lump sum (2 weeks’ worth).ย  Scary part?ย  No guarantee I can get full time at my other job, and this could just as easily happen again in this industry.ย  2011 sure is turning out interesting so far…

Time for dinner!ย  John cooked up some pork while I made brussels (just for me).ย  I had a banana with dinner to change things up as well.

I need to make a light box or something for better pictures.ย  Either that or spring needs to get here!

I get to polish up the old resume tonight, which I will do while snacking on this:

Chocolate heals all, doesn’t it?

Aw, crum. But that was the job you didn’t like, right? Hopefully this will lead you to where you are supposed to be – I know it’s a scary thought, though, to lose the job *snap* just like that. Bagel/cupcake shop in your future? You could set the example and show that you can be thin and still eat those kinds of foods! ๐Ÿ™‚

I hear ya on getting out in the cold weather – not sure I’ll be out running tomorrow as it is just bone-chilling damp and cold here. Luckily it’s almost Spring. Right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Amazing how a few moments can turn your day or life upside down; I’m so sorry, Lori. I used to snarl at my Gran when she told me that setbacks were opportunities for growth, but she sort of turned out to be right. I hope life brings you something new and brilliant to replace the job.

That stinks, Lori ๐Ÿ™ Sorry that it had to go down like that without any notice at all! I agree with everyone…something better will come along for you!

I’m having trouble with night lighting photos, too. I’m all for spring!

Oh, I’m sorry about your job! You KNOW I understand what that’s like. At least I had time to prepare for mine.

I’ve been thinking about dropping a day of strength training, too. My body was just plain old tired at the end of last week. I’d also considered splitting my body parts up, but I like the full-body approach. Maybe drop a day every other week?

Aw crap. That’s a bummer. Certainly hope the 2nd job gives you the hours you need so you don’t have to stress about finances — that is never fun. Also, with your great writing skills, maybe you can pick up some freelance writing gigs? You’d be a great fitness writer, for starters. And a great food writer, come to think of it! Thanks for your comment about my friend — I decided it’s time to put up something more cheerful, so there’s NY Times Sq on New Year’s Eve video now.

ugh, i am so sorry to hear about the lay off. what a crappy way to do it, too. they should have thanked you! i am on the other side of it and had to lay off someone on friday due to slow business. it was the hardest thing for me to do, but as the boss, the responsibility fell on me. it was the pits ๐Ÿ™

you have a great attitude and a great husband ๐Ÿ™‚

So sorry to hear about the job loss – and it doesn’t sound like they did it very nicely either… I hope for you that this means there is something better just around the corner. Hang in there and enjoy the extra free time in the meantime!

Wow that is a lousy way to lay you off! I am sure like the other posters said – an great opportunity will come your way.

  9. Dawn

Sorry to hear about the job Lori, stinks that she didn’t even say thank you for all your work. Hope the other job can turn into full time for you and if not that you find something nicer quickly.

Daggone it! I swear, employers have NO COUTH these days. They are just totally couthless! Rubs my wrong side completely. I’m like a cat with a hunched back and all it’s hair standing up right now!! I do love the photo of you thinking about it though ๐Ÿ™‚

My mom always said, when one door closes, another one opens and there’s always something better on the other side. That’s what I wish for you.

I understand things happen in this economy, but they were SO rude to you about it! I’d have said “sayonara” too – no thank you, waiting list! I am very sorry to hear about the news, though. I’ve been in those shoes and I am sure that the next step will reveal itself to you.
You’ve got a great bunch there to help you through the change – I’m sure Pixie will offer an extra cuddle or two ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ouch. What a way to end a working relationship. So sorry about that. Thank goodness for that second job. Awesome workout! Guess you’ll have a tiny bit of extra time for working on the killer body and loving on John and Pixie.

I’m so sorry about the job Lori. But like everybody else i think its because something wonderful is on the horizon waiting for you. Sometimes in our attempt to not ‘rock the boat’ or keep things status quo we forget to look for it. But i’ll bet theres something bright in your future just waiting for you to turn the light on it.

That was a terrible way to let you go. I worked for Lowe’s for 15 years but two years in is when i had my first heads up at what kind of company they were. They let all their extra help go a week before xmas…….to me that was unforgiveable and darkened my opinion of them for the rest of the years i worked there. Maybe after xmas let them go but not the week before…..it was just wrong…..deb

Hi Lori, soooo sorry to hear about the abrupt end to your job. I’m a firm believer in “everything happening for a reason” and I KNOW another (and better) opportunity will open up for you very soon! Take care!!!!

That’s horrible Lori. I’m so sorry. Maybe the 2nd job will pan out for full time.
It’s really rotten that the gal who called was so insensitive. Maybe she would have handled the situation with a bit more tact if she had experienced a lay off.

Anyway, my dad tells me that these things were meant to try us and in the end, we come out on top. You’ll be on top soon. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m sorry to hear about the job. I think it’s very inpolite how they told you.
If I’m correct you were thinking about giving up this job but it would have been better if this happened on your conditions and not theirs.
Hope you find something you like soon.

  17. Alissa

Awwww Lori. ๐Ÿ™ That’s really tough. Some companies- I tell ya. They just don’t value their employees or don’t even try to pretend that they do. They could be a little more personable about the whole situation- I guess they did call you and didn’t instant message that to you, for what it’s worth. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Everything will turn out ok, it always does. Keep your head up. And if you need to, I’m sure all of us would be happy to donate to your cause. ๐Ÿ˜‰ You are a super star in the blog world afterall!

Sorry about the job Lori but so many of us out here can relate all too well…. hard times! You will bounce back!

On the PB flour, I found it thru April over at Foods of April & course got it at TJ’s. She has some recipes over there too using it & then you can modify to what you want… I am looking forward to what you & John will come up with!

Does this job thing mean that Pixie will become more spoiled ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oops, falling behind on my blog commenting! Hey, I love the idea of the one commenter suggesting that you become a personal trainer!! Have you ever thought of that? You’d have the whole package to offer–personal experience, a good grip on how to eat and how to have a healthy attitude towards food, and you really have studied your exercise and application.

Totally off-topic–have you tried the Bigelow Eggnog tea? I’m having some right now–quite scrumptious!

Sorry about Job 1; I hate those kind of surprises! If it had to be one of the two, at least it was the one you disliked more (if I’m remembering correctly). Hope you work out something w/Job 2, or find something you like more!

  21. Purplemoon

Sorry about your job loss. I hate it when they come at you like that, with no notice or anything. I really believe that things have a way of working themselves out. I hope job 2 will become full time for you.

When I was first laid off I thought it was the end of the world. Then I got a better house, better job and love the new town I live in so it all worked out in the end. I’ll never be afraid of being jobless again.

I love your attitude about the situation.
