Silent snow

When I woke up this morning, it was ultra quiet.  You know that quiet when there is very little traffic and the muffling effect of snow?

You can’t see it in this picture, but the snow was still falling.  While the snow had cleared the coast by morning, it was still moving our way and would be here for the majority of the day today.

Obviously no gym and no bagel today!  Since I wasn’t falling over starving since I hadn’t worked out, I experimented for breakfast today.  I wanted my protein waffles, but on a whim I decided to sub the oats with cooked brown rice (I know! I am such a daredevil!)

In the magic bullet:

Uh-oh – we have waffle runoff!

Here they are unadorned:

They had such an interesting texture.  Almost like a baked rice pudding.  Soft and fluffy.  I folded them over and topped with blueberry sauce

After breakfast, it was time to go out to shovel for the first pass.  That was some good exercise!  Buddha is almost covered up:

I think Buddha might be totally covered by now, but it is dark out.  Here is a PSA for those in snowy areas.  Even if you hire a serve to shoveling/plowing for you – take a few minutes and shovel clear a path to  any fire hydrant by your house:

You don’t want the fire department to have to take time to find and clear it when they need it! That stick is on there so that the hydrants can be found in deep snow after they get buried by the plows, fyi.

I was craving an omelet today for lunch.  So that is what I had!  I had sauteed broccoli and feta cheese in this egg/egg white omelet.

Would you like a closer look?

Yum.

The other job was extremely slow today.  This is exactly what I was worried about.  Part of it is that this is local to me (unlike my other place that was across the country) and the clinic was slow to open if it opened at all due to snow.  I won’t judge it based on today, though.

I am exploring other career/job options.  I will say that I am not really that interested in being a personal trainer.  I just don’t want to have to find clients and keep them!  That wouldn’t be steady income around here, as there are not a lot of gyms that have trainers on staff and get clients for you.  Maybe in a bigger city.  Plus I might be a little too ‘tough love.’  right Mom? The thought of more schooling is really just annoying, too.  I already have a bunch of letters after my name (B.Mus, MM, AAS) and am still paying off the loans from that – in my 40s, no less.

I made lattes today for a change.

Pictured with a banana, but I didn’t eat the banana for another hour.

Pixies says “Mom – you better get out there and shovel again”

We won’t tell her that John went out to do it with the snow blower.  I never use the snow blower, but he seems to like it.  Me, I find it blows back too much snow on me.

Seafood for dinner tonight.  Baked clam strips. And those dried up carrots from yesterday? They came back to live after I boiled them. Waste not want not.

Now I am finishing up what last bit of work there is tonight.  Fingers crossed that tomorrow is busier.  It’s also bagel day 😀

Now… off to find a snack!

Have to say I agree with you about the practical aspects of being a personal trainer. And those rice pudding waffles really appeal to me. I’m gonna have to try that sometime. I’ll probably do a pancake though. I’m too lazy to make waffles. Your dinner reminded me to have carrots tonight. Love cooked carrots.

I actually *love* the quiet from the snow…I find it peaceful. Only problem is that when you live in an area that gets snow regularly, the actual “quiet” time is very short as the plows and shovellers get out there pretty quick. LOL

    The protein waffle looks yummy!

Still sucky about the job…are there any other transcription companies looking for people?

There are other companies out there, but there are also a ton of transcriptionists going for the same jobs. Kind of like in the rest of the country LOL!

Pixie looks kind of despondent sitting near the snow – like she misses her greenery!

I agree, being a personal trainer would be difficult…plus you get whiney clients (like me). My solution for your job situ? ::whispers:: bakery! 😉

I love the idea of brown rice in waffles – whole grains are always a good thing! I’m with you on that Dunkin Donuts idea yesterday.. you could make money AND feed your latte addiction 😉

I put my baby carrots in a (covered) bowl of water in the fridge–keeps them from turning white & drying out. Also, I seem to eat more of them when they’re so handy.

its amazing to me how supersilent the snow can seem and yet how that is in a way duplicated here in TX by the VERY HOTHOT DAYS when no one is outside.
Looking out the window it too appears to be a silent world.

I love your pics Lori.. your little neighborhood looks so peaceful & well, the food.. can you say YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Those waffles looked great!

I hear you on the training thing. I did it years ago & it is hard.. all kinds of crazy hours & yes, keeping the people PLUS getting them to eat right away from the gym instead of them blaming you for the reason they are not losing.. instead of their mouth. It is rewarding but hard!

    Pixie… cute little thing! 🙂

Writing would be interesting, but I don’t know what I would actually write about. Might have to be fiction 😀

I’m going through some job stuff too and people keep suggesting I change my career path… either to being an event planner or being a running coach. I guess I’m good at being bossy. But, like you, I’d need to live in a bigger city to make either of those financially rewarding.

Would you be afraid to work at a bagel shop? You know to get all your lattes and bagels free?

How much snow did you end up with? We got 18 inches in the end. Most of our non-highway roads are only about 1 1/2 lanes wide so no road running for me for a bit!

We only ended up with about a foot of snow. Funny how you know you live in a wintery area when you say “only” a foot LOL!

Write about your weight loss, include your recipes and fitness regimen. Start with a newsletter, or be a columnist, or write articles for magazines/newspapers. You could do endorsements for products. Why not? You have the time to research and to write.

Mmmm, yummy eats yesterday! I especially liked the look of that omelette, not to mention the latte!

And maybe Pixie misses watching all the birds and things. Sometimes I think we (and other creatures) are just TV for cats.

I love your meals most of the time but that wafle with rice for breakfast: not my cup of tea. The other meals look great.

I’m sure you will find a job you like, it just takes some time.
