1st Annual Blogger’s Healthy Heart Weekend!

Okay – are you ready? Time for the 1st Annual Healthy Heart Virtual Run/Walk!

First off, you don’t have to run if you are unable to. I just want this to be a focus on getting healthy. If you want to walk, that’s fine. Elliptical bunny? Knock yourself out! Take a long bike ride? Go for it! The only stipulation is that you need to take a picture of yourself before, during, or after your event and send it to me. I will post the pictures here. Get creative, too! You don’t have to have your face in the photo if you don’t want to.

Date: Just before Valentine’s, of course! February 11th, 12th, and 13th! Feel free to chose Friday, Saturday, or Sunday to complete your event.

Distance: Your choice. I think most people standard a 5k, but I know many of you are training for an event, so you can use whatever distance fits in with your training plan. It’s all about a healthy heart, not a specific distance. Extra kudos to anyone who bikes 100 miles in 1 day, though!! πŸ˜‰

The good news? There are some prizes to be awarded! These will be chosen randomly from those that submit entries.

Prizes include:

  • – A bag of fresh roasted coffee by yours truly!
  • – A weighted jump rope provided by Harbinger Fitness. Please visit their site for a lot of other fitness equipment, including the lifting gloves that I was lucky enough to win, as well as core strengthening products, mats, resistance bands, etc.
  • – A box of the dark chocolate mint cups that you see featured here. Great portion controlled snack πŸ˜€

————————————————–

After you complete your event, please email me the photo and what you did at javaqueen01 (at) yahoo.com .

Please post below if you would like to participate and what you plan to do! Feel free to post about it on your blog if you have one and see how many people we can get to participate! You may grab the logo above and link as well.

I would love to do this. I am not in good shape yet though. Just getting started with my fitness program but I would like to get on my treadmill and walk at an easy pace and just see how long I can go before I absolutely have to stop. Maybe go as far as I can and not set a goal as I don’t know what I might be able to accomplish yet. If I am too much of an amateur just let me know. I’ll have my son take a good pic during my walk, if that is okay. I will shoot for at least an hour and see what happens. Maybe I can go even longer than that. I’m willing ot try anyway.

I’m up for this. I will either be doing the Arc Trainer or the Stairmaster. Not sure about the distance but the time will be 50 minutes. Looking forward to the event. πŸ™‚

If we have good weather and my knee cooperates, I’ll do a 5 mile walk outside on a local trail. If the weather is bad or the knee punks out, I’ll do 4 miles on the elliptical.

    Yay!

I would love to participate as well. I will either walk 5k or bike 10K, both outdoors. What a great challenge! Thanks Lori πŸ™‚

I LOVE this! As someone who has had some heart issues in the past, I think this is a great reminder to take care of our hearts.

Oh man! I’d love to have those kudos for doing the 100 miles in 1 day but I don’t think I’m ready for that kind of mileage just yet. I would like to do a duathlon (since I’m going to be training for one in March) of 2 miles run, 8 miles bike, 2 miles run. This will be my first time to do this. ever.

I’ll post this on my blog tomorrow.

Great prizes!! I really want some of your home roasted coffee. I need to search to see if you’ve done a blog post in the past about how you do that.

What a fun idea Lori. Especially to see everyone’s pics and their different choices of exercise. I’ll walk–my serious fast walking–either 3 or 5 miles, presuming the weather cooperates. Thanks for doing this. I am trying to be more cognizant of getting my heart rate up more regularly.

Great idea Lori. Too bad in a way it’s in 2 weeks as I have a great pic taken today after my Hypothermic Half πŸ™‚ I’ll probably run 4-6 miles on that Sunday.

  8. Fran

Great idea Lori! I’m in. I have to run for my half marathon schedule. I will be running on Friday and will be doing 8 miles.

I have to figure out yet how I’m going to take a photo since the hub isn’t home. I’ve taken that Friday off because I have to work on Saturday and I wanted to run that weekend πŸ™‚

  9. Desert Agave

What a great idea. I’m in too. I’m signed up for a 5K race on February 13th (my birthday) and I’ll be sure to have my husband snap a pic specifically for this.

I’m in. You know I’ll be running but I don’t have my schedule in front of me right this minute so not sure how far. I’ll say “several” miles. At least enough miles to earn the mint cups, just in case I win them πŸ™‚

Oops forgot to add that I’ll be indoors at the gym and will either be that elliptical bunny (hehehe) or on the bikes. I dont know how long I’ll go but I promise it’ll be a new personal best!

I love it! I am needing to get back to business after serious issues and backsliding, so I will pledge to do my stationary bike for at least 10 miles – I will try to do 12-15…whatever I can do will be on 2/11! I’ll do a post soon!

I plan on participating on Friday, February 11. Since I am limited to 30 minutes on the cardio machines at the gym, I’ll walk 30 min. on the treadmill and ride the recumbent bike for 30 min.

HI, i found your blog from Happy Texans!
I am in on this challenge this is fantastic!!

3 mile run on the treadmill! practicing for my first 5k in March!

  14. MB

Sounds fun. I’m in! I’ll do my usual 60 minutes on the elliptical or if Friday happens to be one of my C25K days I’ll do 40 minutes on the elliptical and 20+ minutes of whatever day of the program I’m on.

  15. Jo

I’m in, Lori. Thanks for initiating. I will do at least 30 minutes of something. Will have to wait until the day to see whether I have ‘normal’ legs or ‘MS legs’ before I decide exactly what it is I’m doing. But I commit to sweating, one way or another πŸ™‚

  16. Dee

Hi Lori…love your blog, found you a couple of weeks ago and have been ready some everyday, you are an inspiration!! I am just starting my fitness journey and will be walking on the treadmill on Feb. 11 for as long as I possible can! Looking forward to seeing just how far I can go!!

  17. Jessica

I’m in! My fitness routine has been totally disrupted by life stuff (a temporary relocation, problems with our house, travel delays, bad weather) for the last few weeks, and I’m determined to get back to normal as soon as the last leg of travel is finished in the next few days. So, I’m going to run my 5k on Friday. Outdoors if I can, on the treadmill if I must.

  18. Kathy

I will do a 5K on the 12th. It will be a little walking and jogging on the tread mill or outside if the weather cooperates. Great Challenge!!

I am going to participate…I am either going to swim 35 laps or do an elliptical workout. Pics to follow.

I don’t know if Canadians are allowed to win prizes, but that is not why I am doing it.

I am keeping my healthy heart going…that is prize enough.

  23. Shelly

Oh, I’m in. I’m not sure yet what I will be doing. I may go for a long walk or I may opt for an indoor version. But I’ll do something!
