Lifting and more snow fun

It was all the way up to 0 degrees when I got up. It’s a heat wave! Funny how much warmer that felt than -27. It’s all relative. I headed out to the gym for some walking and full body lifting.

Exercise Set/rep/weight Muscle worked
Cable Squat-to-Row 3 set of 10 at 60# Full Body
Barbell Split Squat 3 sets of 10 (each leg) at 65# Lower body
Close Grip Lat Pulldown 3 sets of 12 at 50# Back
Pushups 3 sets of 10 Chest
Plank 3 sets of 60 second holds Core
Calf Raise 3 sets of 10 at 140# Calves
Face Pull 3 set of 12 at 30# Shoulders
Good Mornings 3 sets of 10 at 55# Low back and hammies

The gym was so cold today. Apparently the furnace conked out again yesterday (of all days!!) and no fixing it this time. They need to get a replacement. I couldn’t even touch the dumbbells because they were so cold.   I will run tomorrow, which should keep me warm.

I was ready for breakfast today!  I planned out all my foods in livestrong.com for today last night.  Then I forgot after I made breakfast that I was going to do a different topping for my waffles, but ended up with blueberries.  The idea of writing down is so that you follow the plan, right? 🙄

Still tasty, though. Playing in the light box again.  I have a daylight bulb, but I am thinking I need something a little warmer.

A box arrived for me today. I finally upgraded my phone.  I had one of those old ones with only numbers, so texting was a real PITA.  Plus it randomly called John out of the blue, so who knows if it did it to anyone else.  😳  When I went to upgrade I could do a nice phone because it was 4 years since my last one!  Ooops.  I am not a big phone user, it’s the computer for me.

I got an LG Cosmos with a keyboard.  Cool.  Yeah, I know everyone else has an iPhone, but it just doesn’t fit in the budget.  Not with a new half bath to be put in!

Lunch time! Amping up the protein today for the lifting.  I had some cat food… errr I mean tuna.  Lemon pepper, to be exact.

Need to make some different seasonings.  Time to get more hummus!  Suzi has a challenge this week to get in more fruits and veggies, so I joined in.  Fruit is never a problem, but veggies can be.

Doing work for the orthopedic clinic and there are so many ski related injuries as of late!  I tried down hill once and didn’t enjoy it very much.  I did like cross country, though.  Without insurance, I am not likely to try downhill again, though.  Broken clavicle is the most common injury so far this season.  Then torn meniscus.

I’ll stick with sledding, like we did last weekend:

That’s kind of how I stop when skiing, too.

It’s time:

Latte with 1/2 scoop of whey isolate in there.  I loves me some protein!

I had set out some clementines to eat with the latte, but I wasn’t that hungry.  My appetite has been low today.  What a relief! Usually I could pretty much eat all the time (and sometimes do).  Not sure what is suppressing it today, but I will take it.

More light box playing for dinner!  I definitely need another light on the other side.

This pita had scrambled eggs, laughing cow and the requisite hot sauce.  I almost burned my brussel sprouts, too, but they came out quite good.  I think that pan sauteing them in coconut oil is my favorite cooking method.

I have a bit of work to finish up tonight and then I will have a snack later of a couple mint cups.

Don’t they look giant?  I’ll post about the light box tomorrow.  I’m likin’ it.

Question:  Do you ski?

I haven’t been skiing in ages! I didn’t have the strength or endurance to do it well before, even in my 20s, but now I think I just lack the skills. (Most of our ski places are at higher altitudes, too, so I’m sure that’s another factor.) I think I’d prefer cross-country to downhill, though, or sledding.

Don’t know if you’ve answered this before, but how do you get the whey protein powder in your latte without it congealing? (I tried with hot cocoa once, not so pretty.)

I like the look of your new phone! I have an older iPhone, which I do love, but I’d have to say that one of the downsides for me is typing on glass. :-/

I use whey protein isolate. It makes all the difference because it mixes in like a dream. We just stir it in to the milk and froth it up with the steamer wand.

I haven’t been sledding in ages. Might not make it this year but maybe next year need to keep it on the list for a mini weekend vacation for the family. Looks like you were having fun, loved the video.

Your lattes always look so yummy.

I’ve never tried skiing, no. I have to admit to only seeing snow once in my lifetime: my Dad drove my sister and I three hours to see ankle deep snow when I was about 10. I’ve promised myself and the boys a trip to the ski-fields here this winter, and we’ll try skiing then 🙂

Ooo like that workout you shared, especially the good mornings! So much good looking food here, do you deliver?

  5. Alissa

Looking forward to info on the light box. I need to build something like that to get better pictures.

Love the sledding video!! I’ve never gone skiing- I’m a bit scared! But I will have to do it at least once. I get scared enough when I go too fast sledding- I think I’m going to break something. lol

Thanks for visiting and commenting on my blog. It is still a work in progress and the comments are very helpful. I love reading your blog and how consistent you at posting workouts and meal plans. It is very inspiring to me. I will continue to follow. Thanks 🙂

Wait…there’s another way to stop when you’re skiing? 😉 The sledding looks like fun – am waiting for the bobsled video down your driveway one of these days, lol!

Sweet new phone! I like that slide out keyboard, and also how Miss Pix is in the shot. And while we would like iPhones too, they aren’t in our budget, so don’t feel alone in that.

Yeah, your phone looks super snazzy to me. I like Pixie in the picture too. I think I could upgrade now. Maybe I’ll check out the deals.

I used to downhill ski–can you believe it. That brief period of time from about 28-30 when I was much slimmer (had lost 80something pounds and then gained it back and kept on gaining. Anyway, it was quite thrilling to do something like that. I’ve always wanted to go back, but I think I’ve missed my window of opportunity. I think its pretty hard on the knees. I didn’t like cross country when I tried it.

Skiing scares the bejesus out of me!

Believe it or not, I just DOWNGRADED my phone! I didn’t have anything fancy to begin with but we were still paying close to $900 a year for it! I went to a prepaid Tracfone and it’s been working out fine. Yes, texting is a PITA since it doesn’t have a keyboard, but it’s only costing me about $300 bucks a year!

Your light box pics are looking great! I’m using the daylight bulbs, too, however I did read that using full spectrum bulbs will get the best pics.

Barely and its been years. I do know how to snowplow though and thats about the extent of it. LOL! I’ve been skiing in the Bavarian Alps though and that was wonderful.

Love the sledding video. I really miss snow….here its just COLD!

  11. April

I need a new phone to but keep putting it off which really means I don’t NEED one 🙂

I have been skiing once and hated it. I would like to try it again sometime.

I just upgraded my phone in December to a phone with a full keyboard and it was the best investment I made. I hated having just a touch screen!

No skiing for me, I would most likely kill myself. ;/

  13. Leah

I went skiing once…it was a blast, though I was ridiculously bad at it. They made me take the intro class twice before letting me on the slopes because I couldn’t stay up. LOL I don’t like the speed going down a hill, but I think I’d enjoy cross country skiing.

I like your phone. My husband has the same one. We don’t have iPhones…not in our budget either and really no need for them. They would be fun, but not a necessity so far.

I think Pixie is saying – more attention here pls! 🙂 I don’t have an iPhone either.. no $$ like you for that… looks neat but pretty expensive!

Your sledding video is cute! I grew up back east & loved the sledding & tobogganing & all that but glad to be out of the cold & -27 or 0 degree weather!

That is a cool plate your dinner is on!

My kids and I are enjoying your cold weather videos! Never been downhill skiing myself but my kids get to go on a ski trip to Austria and now they are begging for us to do it once as a family vacation…I am not too sure about that when I see all the people who get injured every year!

  17. Helen

Not everyone has an iPhone Lori. Dare I say that Mr. Helen actually uses a prepaid Tracphone! With no internet or apps! It really ticks me off when we go somewhere and his stupid Tracphone gets service and my iPhone will not 😀

The things you learn when you do medical transcription… broken clavicle and torn meniscus, who knew?

Pixie’s all like, “Lemme just freshen up my lipstick first, OK?”

Good work with the light box. Anything helps but that’s what make digital cameras so great because you can take all sorts of shots and work the light until the shadows disappear. Also, if you have the hystogram option on your camera – thats a real photo saver.

I’m not a regular skier. We were going to do more c/c skiing this year but the Duathlon we were doing it for isn’t being held. 🙁 Guess Ted will stick to his snowboard and I’ll keep coming up with excuses why I can’t go.

  19. Ang

I love Pixie’s face in the phone pic! 🙂

I have never been skiing sometimes I think it looks like fun and perhaps I should try it…then I remember that I’m clumsy, hate the cold, and don’t have the appropriate gear so it would cost a fortune to rent everything. Then cost even more when I broke something. The upside, those in your field would have more transcription work! lol

  20. Fran

I don’t ski, it never interested me, way too cold 🙂

I don’t have an Iphone either because I don’t like touch screen phones. Had one before and hated it from the start. I have a Blackberry now and couldn’t be happier about it. Love your new phone!

  21. Biz

Before I got my Blackberry, my daughter and step-son called my old phone a Jitterbug – you know the one that’s for senior citizens?!

I still can’t reply to email on it – haven’t figured it out yet!

Curious about the light box – my kitchen has awful lighting at night.

If I didn’t thank you before, thanks for the virtual hugs!

  22. Roxie

Love your new phone (and the shot of Pixie). I’m due for an upgrade myself. I’m such a Luddite, but i do think I’ll upgrade to some sort of smart phone thing. I’m a pretty happy Sprint customer, so no iPhone for me.

Yep, I’m a skier. Learned at a very young age, but it’s been a couple of years since I’ve been. I love it and miss it. Growing up in WA, it was easy to just decide to “go”. Here in Texas, it’s much more of an ordeal to get to the nearest slope.

  23. Andra Ruscoe

I can’t think of anything worse than skiing. I only like the snow if there is a window separating me from it.

Really looking forward to hearing about the light box, I’ve been tinkering with the idea because my kitchen has insufficient lighting and like any model, beautiful food really needs good lighting to make it look its.

  24. MB

Great video! I love to ski and snowboard but haven’t been in the last couple of years because of the lack of snow and wanting to take every opportunity to ride my snowmobile. I’m hoping to get out on the slopes this winter. I think it’s like riding a bike – you don’t forget how to do it.
