To the dark side

I was worried that snow would keep me from the lifting today, but I lucked out as it seemed to have been delayed some, so I was able to get there before the snow really accumulated. Here is me pulling out of my driveway.

It’s not quite fully light out, so I don’t know if you can see any definition in the snow banks.

Exercise Set/rep/weight Muscle worked
Cable Squat to Row 3 set of 10 at 60# Full Body
Stiff-legged deadlift 3 sets of 10 at 75# Lower Body
Dumbbell Pull Over 3 set of 10 at 20# Back
Incline Dumbbell Fly 3 sets of 12 with 15# DBs (30# total) Chest
Planks 3 sets 70-second holds Core
Seated Calf Raise 3 sets of 10 at 140# Calves
Face Pull 3 sets of 12 at 30# Shoulders
Lower Back Extension 3 sets of 10 at 100# Low back

The planks felt good today and I didn’t struggle at all. Actually I felt very strong today. I don’t know why, but I’ll take it! Actually, I think it is my overall reduction in exercise right now that makes me feel stronger.

Just a reminder on my lifting.  I don’t want anyone to feel bad if they don’t lift like I do, and I would not expect someone to take one of my workouts and do it successfully right off the bat.  There are plenty of people who lift a lot heavier than me (and are tinier!).  Also keep in mind that I have been lifting for a few years now, so I have a really good base of strength built up.  Just a PSA.

I came home for a different breakfast today. A cheese omelet!  With a bigazz bowl of blueberries.  Yum

Funny how I love to eat omelets for lunch and dinner, but I rarely have them for breakfast unless I am out to eat

The snow fell in wet sticky flakes today.  I love how it makes the bare bushes look:

I planned out my lunch for today last night and still wasn’t all that enamored of it.  Except the peanut butter.

One more can of tuna and then it is going back on the ‘tired of it’ list again.

I received a wonderful package in the mail today from FoodBuzz as part of the Tastemaker program.  2 samples from Pure Dark!  Pure Dark is a division of Mars and have come out with a new line of chocolates.  The idea is that these are a premium chocolate with minimal processing.

For an afternoon snack, I had to crack into the Bark Classic, which is dark chocolate topped with cherries, roasted almonds, and cacao nibs. I fit it into my eating plan for the day.  There is *always* room for chocolate!

With a latte and it was totally delicious!  John and I both agreed. I loved the crunchy cacao nibs in it.  Didn’t taste much cherry (which is okay by me). I’ll talk about the slab one another day 😀

Dinner time was just assembled tonight.  I had chicken spread with laughing cow and hot sauce.  This is really good!

Lots of food talk today and not much else.  It was a quiet day, which really can be a relief sometimes.

John and I are headed out to Starbies for some coffee and relaxing!  I will be having cream in my coffee and bringing some nuts for a snack.  Total carbs for today is 90.  Yesterday was 86.  I just count all carbs – I don’t do the net fiber or whatever other people do.  I love how all that food looks today, too.  So colorful!

Tomorrow will be a grains day, which means it’s bagel time

Question:  Sweet or savory breakfast?

    Is it STILL snowing there??

It’s been ages since I’ve had tuna for lunch. I need to remedy that. In terms of breakfast I usually want savory–eggs, bacon, etc. But once in awhile I do crave sweet (specifically french toast).

Yes – this has been the most snow in a long time. Plus it has been too cold to melt, so it just piles up and up!

    Sweet. 🙂

I still can’t believe you drive in that stuff.

Oh – I did a plank hold yesterday for fun (and to see if I could still do one!) and couldn’t figure out why my stomach was sore this morning…OH! Those things really do work.

I have a hard time eating a savory breakfast. I did it this morning and just felt BLEH. I prefer oats, cheerios or toast. Everything looks delicious on your menu today. Love the picture of the snow on the bushes!

During the work week sweet for breakfast in the form of a protein shake. On the weekends, savoury…bacon and eggs. Yum!

    That chocolate looks really good.

I am as thrilled with my 3lbers as I am with your heavy weights. Power is where it is at!

You know I am a sweets bfast girl. Doesn’t have to be too sweet. Really can’t convince myself to go savory.

That chocolate is interesting. Those cacao nibs are what Vicky uses in her nutty nibby cookies. Which despite everyone giggling at their name are quite delicious!

I’m missing lifting, can’t wait to get back to the gym, I’m envious 🙂 That chocolate looks yummy. Boy that’s some snow. We haven’t gotten much this year thankfully. Glad you could still make it to the gym.

Sweet or savory breakfast? Yes! I like it when I can get some of both, which is why I almost always have a slice of flax toast with sugar free jam along with my eggs or omelette.

I like cocoa nibs! I’ve had them in a dark chocolate nibby bar, and I found some individually coated nibby bits. They kind of remind me of chocolate-covered espresso beans, a lot of flavor in a little package.

The food looks delicious but what did you do with the peanut butter at lunch? Seems like a strange combination to me 😆

That chocolate looks jummie and you’re right: there’s always room for chocolate!

I was going to dip the carrot sticks in the peanut butter, but I ended up just eating it off a spoon 😀

I wanted the fat, which is why I had the peanut butter in the meal.

The snow is STARTING right now in Little Rock, and it’s supposed to last for about 12 hours!! No work today, probably not tomorrow either.

Sweet or savory? I vote BOTH — something savory accompanied by something sweet. The contrast makes it interesting and satisfying.

Peanut butter and tuna in the same meal? Hmmmmmm. Definitely not a combination I’d ever put together I think! But that chocolate? OH. EM. GEE. I’ll be looking for that!

Daaaaaaang! 75# straight leg deadlift?! Wowser. You lift some impressive weights. I can’t weight (haha) to be able to lift more. I did 15# dumbbell flies on the stability ball. It’s been 4 days and the soreness is finally gone. LOL Oops.

That chocolate looks so good. I need to find some. Last night I melted some dark chocolate and drizzled it on halved strawberries. It was like eating a bowl of chocolate dipped strawberries without the guilt.

Your eats look good and so colorful!

The amount of snow you guys have is insane. Really. Houston had the *threat* of snow last Friday and most everyone stayed home from work. LOL It’s true.

Ugh planks! They do not love me. Some quality lifting there! Glad you could get to the gym. Those are still some crazy high drifts.
Nice eating! I’ve got “tired of” foods on my list. Best wishes for your heart healthy weekend workout!

I love the comment “there is always room for chocolate”! That snow is crazy…this really has been a nasty winter for so many areas! Glad you got out in it and did your lifting!!!

I’m so tired of snow. We’ve had more in the last two years than we have had in perhaps the previous 5 combined! I used to hate to drive in snow but now if I don’t I’ll never get to go anywhere!

Typical breakfast here is 0% Fage, frozen raspberries, and almonds. So I guess sweet for the most part. On weekends I do omelettes and bacon typically.
