Chock full weekend

We got up to a lot of shenanigans this weekend!  I had a job interview in the morning on Saturday at a garden center to work in the nursery through the growing season.  She will let me know later this week.  It would be nice to do, but if nothing comes of it, that is okay.

On Saturday, John and I started the demo on the laundry room.  I love how the real ugly comes after demo:

Bye-bye foam fake wood vinyl floor! We have been moving those shelves around to avoid having to move them to another room.  It’s working okay so far, but we shall see.

This used to be a porch at one time, but it was enclosed sometime in the home’s past.  So, we got to see the original porch floor.

So purty.  We had to take a break and treat ourselves to lunch – so it was off for pizza wraps!

So good.  Then we did more work and finished up all the floor demo removing the underlayment as well.

I love doing renovations! I flipped 2 houses and that was such a rewarding experience for me, even though it was incredibly physically demanding.

Sunday brought some bagels, baking, planting, and more renovation!

I made these low carb rolls from a cookbook recipe that I will be sharing on Thursday.  They are kind of like cream puff rolls.  Very interesting  and quite easy!  With cheese and broccoli.

Did some seed planting!  Got the snapdragons started. They need 12 weeks indoors.

This is my first time doing snaps from seeds.  They are about the size of poppyseeds or smaller.  I am growing plants for my garden and for my mom’s garden this year and I have 3 more kinds to do.

Then it was back to renovations!  We started the framing for the wall and door.  Going to try putting in a pocket door; hope it works

Handy m’am!

This weekend went buy awfully fast, I have to say.  Guess that is what happens when you cram stuff into it!

I made up a quick dinner tonight of some sauteed shrimp and more broccoli!

I ate pretty well this weekend, so that was good.  Some weekends I eat a lot and others not so much.  Of course, keeping busy sure can help with that!  I am so excited about doing this house project!  We ran out of wood, so no more work tonight.  Guess I should do some relaxing!   If only tomorrow wasn’t back to work 😀

Look at you with the power tools! Good job! 🙂

My boyfriend bought his house about 2 years before we started dating. He installed the hardwood floors by himself, then when we started dating I helped him demolish the kitchen and remodel it. We’re not done with it yet (isn’t that typical of home remodel DIY projects?) but we’re getting closer to having a real kitchen!

I usually get very absorbed into a project and don’t want to stop, so we end up finishing ours relatively quickly. This one will take a while because of work and doing some new stuff – like the toilet line, eek!

I know this is unrelated but I wanted to say thanks. My 5 yr old daughter requested pears at the store. I always indulge my kids produce requests. I have never liked pears and therefore have not had one in years. Tonight I sliced them up to have with dinner and to model good behavior for the kids, I tried a slice. It was pretty good. Then inspired by your posts, I tried it with cinnamon, DIVINE!

Thanks for the great pics and a suggestion. I always like finding something healthy to add to my choices.

You know it’s funny, I never ate (or remember eating) a fresh pear for most of my life. They were always canned and I hated the texture. Then I tried a fresh one and couldn’t believe the difference!

Say, I just had the most marvelous idea! You and John (and your tool belts) should come to Memphis for a visit! 🙂 Reno can be fun if you’ve got someone to help.

I agree on the staying busy. I’m counting on Kilz-ing the ceilings in my front rooms to keep me out of trouble this week. The awesome weather kind of took care of it for me this weekend. 🙂

I do not have renovating in me. I enjoy doing it, at least in small projects, but I sure don’t seem to have that kind of talent. Flipping houses is almost unbelievable to me.

You guys are busy little bees, looking good. I can’t say I am that happy when we do renovations lol. I’ve been wanting a bagel for a few weeks now, maybe I’ll treat myself to one this week at Panera Bread with a nice coffee. That roll looks really good.

Wow! I would call that a successful weekend. When you are done with Cammy in Memphis you could then come to Utah. We could call you the traveling demo team. How does that sound? I love weekends when I accomplish a lot it is so gratifying. Hope you week is as good as your weekend. 🙂

You sure did have an activity filled weekend! They are never long enough…

LOL! I had a really nice pear today and thought of you too. I also had shrimp and broccoli for dinner. Great minds!

    Have a great week!

Oh I am so inspired by your renovating. And you are doing it while working! I hope I will be able to do some of that when I retire.

Are those low carb rolls like the oopsie rolls?

Some Saturdays or maybe Sundays, but not until later in the season. Plus this job would only be through July, so after that it would be normal.

Plus, there are always the other weekend days to ride 😀

You and John can always get a job switch to home renovators 🙂
Looks like a big job to me!

Hope you will get the season job, would be a nice change for you.

    1. Lori Post author

Yes, a little excited. But, it also is only for the season, so wouldn’t be a permanent thing. But a foot in the door is a foot in the door, you know?

Hope the 2nd job goes well for you since you would like to do that. You are so good with home stuff & garden stuff & I can’t do either! Oh well, somebody has to be good at it! 🙂

I can’t wait for that roll recipe!!! Looks delish!

How is Pixie handling the remodeling??? 😉

    1. Lori Post author

Pixie was a little weirded out because the floor was sticky when the first layer came up because of the glue, which was kind of funny to watch her walk on. Now she seems okay with it, which is good considering her litter pan is in that area!

Can’t wait for your low carb bun recipe – all your eats look delicious. I wish I was handy, but I am not. I can copy if someone shows me how to do it though! And I’ve been banned from painting – the last two times I tried we had to hire a professional to finish 😀

  12. Helen

Are you going to keep that floor? I love wide planks and they always look terrific when refinished. Of course you might want something more modern like tile. I admire the fact that you are taking this one. Mr. Helen and I would be like two Stooges trying to do that!

    1. Lori Post author

No – not keeping the floor. Unfortunately, the boards really are not finishable as they are too porous and a lot of them have holes in them. Also too weather beaten as they used to be outdoors.

  13. Roz

Wow…that WAS a busy day!!! I can’t wait to see your plants progress as the seeds sprout!!! And I notice in the reno pics that Foreman Pixie either took the day off – or was the one taking the pictures. I’m assuming its the “former” not the “latter”. 🙂

  14. Michele

I am also starting seeds, but not for another week. I love the challenge and the fun of raising my own little plants for the garden. Looks like great eats and great progress on your home improvement.

Those pizza wraps look good. Did you make them or were they from a restaurant? I make “pizza burritos” sometimes where I heat up pizza toppings in a bowl and then wrap up in a tortilla.
