Life is grand, a baby grand, that is!

Dang these weekends go by fast!  And how many of you could see the moon?

It was soooo bright!  I took this at a little before 6 am.

We spent Sunday early morning at Panera for breakfast (later than 6am, though).

We were up early.  I was up at 5 am on a Sunday.  How sad is that?  I know it is because I didn’t make the best food choices on Saturday (too much chocolate) and I have found that I sleep poorly on those nights with constant waking and overheated.  You would think that is incentive enough to not do that, right?

We then went to our home away from home (aka Home Depot) to pick up this weeks’ workings for the half bath. We should be able to have the inspector come this week to laugh at us and tell us to start over check out our plumbing.

Made up some lunch.  I did some coconut flour bread, which I will post the recipe for this week.  Kind of like a cornbread biscuit, really.

Plus buffalo style chicken breast with just a drizzle of blue cheese dressing on it.  I am almost out of hot sauce!

Yesterday brought a new addition for our home that was kind of spur of the moment.  A little background here: John and I both have music degrees, but we don’t play our original instruments anymore.  John started playing piano a few years ago with an electronic keyboard.  (We were going to wait until we moved into what will someday be our permanent home to get a real piano.)  He then bought a very nice full span electronic keyboard, which started having issues one year after buying it.  He contacted the company and they replaced the keyboard, and the same thing started happening with the new one.  Obviously a defect in manufacturing.  Now the company is of little help.  Lame.

So, he stopped playing.  He really misses it and especially with me playing the guitar a lot, he was going to buy a new keyboard for $300.  Well, I figured why not get an upright to have in the house, as many of them are for sale for not too much used.  I checked out on Craigs List and sent John some links.  Lo and behold – there was a baby grand piano for $200 a few towns away.  Friday we contacted the guy and looked at it yesterday.

It needs a serious tuning, but it is in awesome shape and a complete steal at $200!  Even with the cost of moving it will be awesome and John can play. The man who owned it needs to room and just wanted to recoup his costs to move this piano.  What a deal!

Now we just need to get the piano movers out to retrieve it. My real ulterior motive for getting this is that whenever we do move out of  our current house, we will now have to pay for movers to do everything instead of doing U-Haul and doing it ourselves like we have always done in the past (which I keep saying I will never do again).

Latte love this afternoon:

Almond milk.  I use the unsweetened, plain almond milk.  I added some whey protein and it almost tasted like milk that way.  I have sort of thought about trying a dairy-free challenge just for kicks, but I don’t know.

Dinner time!  These are apple chicken sausages that are quite good.

Tonight is some relaxing!  We can’t do much more in the half bath until the inspector gives us the okay, so we can goof around now

Did you do anything spontaneous this weekend?

I have been doing some spontaneous desk dancing. My friend has a live radio show that you can also watch and he plays the best music. Soca, reggae, R&B etc. I just love it!

Yahoo on the new piano! So cool.

You helped me decide what to have for dinner. Buffalo chicken breast with blue cheese dip…can’t wait.

Love the moon! Did my moondancing last night too.

Hope all goes well with the inspection.

    Me? Spontaneous? NEVER lol!!

Mike wants to buy a drum set…oh boy. I hope he doesn’t find a good deal like you guys did on the piano. That will keep him from buying one.

WOW – a baby grand?? That’s awesome! I can only imagine how excited John must be.

We couldn’t see the moon AT ALL. Rather upset about that, i mean it happens, what? Once every 12 years?? Ugh. Stupid cloud cover.

Looks like the half bath is coming along really nicely; can’t wait to see what it looks like when you finish it all the way.

Question on the almond milk/whey protein combo – I use the unsweetened, vanilla almond milk – how much whey protein do you add? I have been using it for my “lattes” at night but have never thought about adding whey protein to “thicken” it up…

I add about a 1/4 to 1/2 scoop. Around 7 grams. It doesn’t thicken it up per se, because I use the isolated whey, but it does make it seem more like milk.

I spontaneously moved from the bed to the sofa to lounge around on my big rear end! Yep, my weekends are wild, I tell ya 😉

Congrats on the piano, Lori!! And John! I’m interested to know what the tuning costs you. I have a piano sitting in my living room that needs serious tuning. I’d love to start taking lessons again!

We just had a quote for $88 for a tuning, which seems really good. I imagine it normally is a little higher than that, though.

Congratulations on your new baby (grand)! We bought ours on the spur of the moment when I was running in the neighborhood and saw an estate sale sign. I went in and saw the piano and sat down and played it. It was love. I ran home and got DH to look too. We negotiated and the seller threw in the transportation. That was 8 years ago. I just sold my beloved upright that was our first piano about 6 weeks ago. You’ll love the BG. I relax by playing for about 45 minutes every day.

Beautiful piano! I used to play but haven’t in 15 years. Don’t remember any of it.

I saw the moon on our vacation! The Arizona desert bodes well for moon and star gazing. 🙂

What a deal on the piano, and may I say that I love your future moving plan!!! We U-Hauled our last move and I like to have died before we were done…what a pain!

  8. Cammy@TippyToeDiet

Ooh, I think you just topped my $20 Kitchen Aid mixer deal. Well-done! 🙂

I’m so with you on the moving. I hired movers for my last move, and once I had everything packed, they moved the whole shebang in 3 hours. My previous move had taken 2 days and numerous trips.

  9. Fran

Beautiful piano. I think it’s great you bought it already since John loves to play the piano. Why wait a couple of years before you can do something you love to do. And that moving is for a later concern. Right now he can play.

You were really up early for a Sunday morning 🙂

I love the moon, we could see it very clear too, a full moon always amazes me and I can’t stop watching it when I take Bella out for her late walk.

I didn’t do anything spontaneous but did do some fun things this weekend.

  10. Helen

You are cracking me up with your ulterior motives – a great plan IMHO!

Good luck with inspectors. I can’t imagine anything other than you passing with flying colors.

  11. Joanne

Congratulations on your Baby Grand. Exciting!

I’ll have to pay better attention to what I’ve eaten when I have those sleepless, over heated nights. I thought it was a combo of wine and coffee but maybe it has something to do with food as well.

  12. Amy

We noticed the super bright moon over here as well this weekend – it was gorgeous!
Good way to be sly with the piano/moving issues – and I am sure John will love playing on a real piano – electronic keyboards just can’t beat the sound of the real thing.

  13. Ishmael

Beautiful moon, and piano! Now you can listen to your own private piano concertos under the stars. How cool is that? I’m so impressed by musical talent — would love to have some (even a smidge) but am sadly lacking!

  14. Biz

What a steal on that piano! And yes, hire professional movers the next time you move – we did the last time and moving was so nice! Just point and tell them where to put the boxes!

  15. Katy

I was very spontaneous this weekend!… We bought 3 baby chicks!! Now we have 6 weeks to build a coop for them! Can’t wait for some fresh eggs!
I tried making your magic rolls but mine came out flat as a pancake (I wonder if I overstired them). I’m going to try again tonight because I love the way they taste!
PS. I love your blog, especially the recipes! I think I’ve tried just about all of them! (except the coconut butter which i just purchased the unsweetened coconut in bulk from Amazon!) 🙂 Can’t wait for the coconut bread!
I also can’t wait for biking weather! I bought a bike last summer and loved riding!

    1. Lori Post author

Hi Katy – the magic roll batter might have been too liquidy. I think that is when they don’t rise. Or if you use a liquid egg white instead of a fresh one, maybe? They do taste quite good!

    2. Katy

I didn’t use the egg white… Maybe my eggs are too big; I use large eggs. Tonight I might try 2 eggs and 1 egg white. 🙂

  16. Roz

SOOO excited for your piano!!!! And I’m very envious you saw the supermoon!!! It was really cloudy here the night it was out, and we just didn’t have any view at all.
    Have a great day!

The inspector comes later this week. I am sure there will be some fiddling we have to do, but hopefully it won’t be much.

  17. Kelly

The moon was so pretty. The trees actually cast shadows at night. Loved it.

You guys! Y’all are such a cool couple. I love that you got a piano AND you’re playing the guitar. You’re going to have a two man (one man/one woman) band.

  18. Jen

I just bought a couple packages of chicken apple sausages from Trader Joe’s, they are so good!!! Can’t wait to try the rest of the flavors 🙂

  19. Dawn

cool about the piano. I had those chicken apple sausages but can’t seem to find them anymore 🙁 Hope your plumbing passes, looks pretty good to me, I know ours wasn’t that neat lol.

OK, how did IO forget to hit here this morn! OMG, age hitting me! 🙂 Of course in southern CA, the weather turned bad on us so the moon viewing was not to me.. too cloudy & now a rain storm for the first week of spring.. WTF?? 😉

OK, I saw a pic of Pixie on your next post & I will head there tomorrow morn since I have to get to something else right now… You know I love Pixie pics!!! 🙂
