Weekend roundup with Mediterranean food!

Thanks so much for your congrats on the job situation!  I really didn’t realize how much stress I was under until it all fell into place.  I was so happy working at home again on Friday.  Hopefully on Monday I will feel the same LOL!

Had such a lovely relaxing breakfast at Panera Bread today.

Then we picked up a couple things at Home Depot and looked at the funner parts of our remodel, like the toilet and sink and flooring. Then we started thinking about our upstairs bath as well.  I told John that we should probably finish the downstairs one first 😀

We spent the majority of Saturday working on the half bath.  Now that inspections are done and passed, we could glue everything together and make all the wiring hot, which took most of the day.  The worse jobs are over now!

Tested our plumbing 😯   All lines are okay except the connections for the washer.  We are going to have to solder those in place.   We truly are learning a lot on this project and realize how much more we actually can do ourselves and do it right.  I am glad to be finished with being under the floor, though, which actually is done barring a disaster.  Now are getting into the fun stuff!

I had a few snacks today – these came into the house

Pretzel M&Ms. D’oh!  They are up high, that’s for sure.

We wanted to go out to dinner to celebrate my raise and being able to work from home and passing the plumbing/electrical inspections, so we headed up to Lake George.  We were looking a different restaurant that we hadn’t tried before, but couldn’t find it.  A lot of things are still closed because it is not the season yet.  Lake George is pretty cold right now.

Still  frozen except right near shore!

This is a place we like to sit when we get here from biking in the summer.

Since we couldn’t find what we were looking for, we chose Ali Baba instead:

I like the inside of this place.  It’s a small restaurant, but nicely decorated.

They have a big oven that they cook the food in, which has beautiful tile.  I wish this picture had come out better.  I was trying to not get the other patrons in the shot.

John and I split 2 different entrees.  He had a falafel pita:

It had a cucumber yogurt sauce and a spicy reddish sauce on it.  It was a little too hot for John, but I quite liked it.  The pita was delicious as well.  I think it had to be fresh made judging by the texture and flavor.

I had a cheese pide (pronounced pita – why they didn’t spell it that way is beyond me).  This had egg, mozzarella, feta cheese and a bit of spinach. Or I think it was spinach.

Plus a ton of garlic.  Holy clove batman!  It was pungent but absolutely delicious!  The crust was crispy on the bottom and chewy on the inside.  Very flavorful!

The service wasn’t the best.  Friendly, but not much in the way of checkbacks.  I keep thinking about how good these dishes were.  I think I liked the pide better, but I would get either again for sure!

All in all a nice weekend and I actually am looking forward to working tomorrow (for real!).

Question: Do you like Mediterranean food?

Oooh your entree looks awesome. Love feta and garlic. I like Mediterranean food, Ethiopian food…most ethnic food I like!

Those pictures of Lake George are so beautiful. And I’m so glad that you are happy about your job situation. I”m happy about mine too LOL.

No, I don’t think I like Mediterranian, or Ethiopian or Indian food. I don’t even like Italian food that much. Its all okay. There’s plenty of food in this world that I do love. Too much, come to think of it…

I’m catching up here–congratulations on your new job situation. Never hurts to ask, huh? It looks really cold up there. We woke up to snow this morning, but it was all gone by the time church was over and got up in the mid 50s today. I think I remember some summer pix of the lake from last summer’s bike rides. Are you still using your indoor bike set up? I’d love to know how that worked.

It is still cold here. We are supposed to be at 9 degrees F overnight.

The trainer has been great this winter, but I sure want the bike on the road already!

That pide looks really good! I’ve not eaten much in the way of Indian or Mediterranean food – guess when I eat ethnic food, I usually go for Mexican. I should branch out, but I don’t know what restaurants are good around here, and my neighbor is a health inspector so I hear a lot of horror stories and don’t dare go to a new restaurant without a great recommendation.

Loved the pics of your day trip.. BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR but beautiful!

Glad you had a great weekend! That restaurant looked warm & cozy on a snowy day. And oh, yes, I love Mediterranean food! (Then again, I can’t think of a food ethnicity that doesn’t have at least one dish I really love.) My coworkers and I found a really great deli/grocery that serves lunch, and their baba ghanoush is amazing!

That dinner looks delish! Being a good Lebanese girl, I am a fan of all foods mediterranean.I think ‘pide’ is Turkish and ‘pita’ is Greek for the same thing 🙂

I like Mediterranean food but don’t eat too often when I think of it. I eat Italian or Asian food more often.

Lake George is beautiful but it’s time for Spring to arrive there.

You’ve had a great weekend and have fun at work today (well here it is today 🙂

I like falafel and gyros but rarely have them. I have some recipes for baked falafel that I may try some day. Had those M&Ms once. Yum. Wondered about the coconut ones!

  10. Helen

I am such an ethnic food girl and Mediterranean is one of my favorites! I almost can’t think of one Mediterranean dish I don’t like. Ha!

C-O-L-D is what those photos look. I’m tired of cold and with you beyond ready for Spring to spring!

HI Lori, JUST caught up on your weekend post. I couldn’t be happier for you regarding the job!!! BIG yay!!!! LOVE the Lake George pics too! Have a great work at home Monday!!!!! 🙂

  12. Joanne

Good job on the remodelling. It will be done and beautiful very soon.
LOVE Mediterranean food. Ted is Lebanese. Before I met him, I had never heard of hummus or grape leaves.

  13. Ang

Mediterranean food is my absolute favorite. Sadly there isn’t much of it available near me. Gives me something else to look forward to when traveling though! 🙂

My mother in law loves those pretzel M&Ms. She is always trying to give me some because she has trouble understanding what gluten is.

  14. Biz

So excited about your job Lori! So glad you decided to just ask!

I’ve actually never been to a mediterranian restaurant, but I think I would love it. 😀

I’m just catching up with blogs. Congratulations on coming to a decision. I think it’s so neat that you and John get to work from home and spend so much time together.

Testing plumbing is always a little bit of a nail biter situation. LOL I don’t know about you but I always check it at random times for several days afterwards. I have nightmares of a leak developing while I’m sleeping.

It looks like there are so many quaint restaurants and shops near you. Very cool.

Yes, I love Mediterranean food. Falafel. Gyro. Shwarma. Souvlaki. Baklava! Hummus. Oh man, I’m getting hungry. And kibbeh balls too. Dolmas….so many good things.
