Jammin’!

It’s Bagel Wednesday!  John is still having some bike issues, so I went out for a solo head start to Panera Bread for a change.  Haven’t been there in about 6 weeks!  I started off with half of a Balance bar because it takes 40-45 minutes to bike there trying to avoid construction.

John scootered and we arrived at almost the same time.  Good timing!

I had an asiago cheese bagel.

The other half was in my tummy.

It was a warm and sunny ride home, but the humidity seems not so bad.  Lots of people on the path, and so many of them not abiding by the rules of the path or just general consideration, like not having your group stop and stand in the middle of the path, riding/walking/jogging on the wrong side while wearing headphones so you can’t hear who is coming behind you, dogs on leads that are way too long, etc.  Sometimes it is easier to handle auto traffic than pedestrian traffic!  A good 17 mile ride today.

I had a quick lunch today.  Leftover cooked chicken (I love leftovers!) with laughing cow and BBQ sauce, plus 2 plums.

Not sure why I wanted 2 plums, but I did. One is not quite enough, but 2 is a little too much.

In my Google reader today was a post I was looking forward to:

I participated in the jam exchange last year and I am going to do it again this year!  Anyone want to join?  Basically you are paired up with one person to send two jars of jam to, then we all talk about what we got 😀  It’s fun.

My afternoon snackage:

Almond milk iced coffee.

Sweet/salty mix.

I had to talk myself out of getting more.  That was tough.  I wasn’t hungry, but I just wanted to eat more.  I was trying to figure out where that was coming from because I wasn’t bored (work was busy), I wasn’t stressed (doctors for work were my favorites today), not PMSing.  Who knows?  Maybe the bagel did it.  But, I did manage to not eat until dinner.

Then I could not decide what to have for dinner as nothing was appealing.  I ended up doing a standard lunch –

I even tried to make it look pretty for the blog.  Cereal, berries, plain greek yogurt and a drizzle of honey.

Storms and rain rolled in this evening and cooled things off big time!  Tonight is mother/daughter cafe night.  I will be walking there and back for another 2.5 miles on the day.  A lot of exercise today!

Question:  Have you ever made jam?

Way to get some functional exercise in! I am having the same dilemma tonight. Nothing particularly appealing to me. But then I start daydreaming and I could end up eating too much if I’m not careful. Better go pick something out!

I am not a jam making or eating person. Since I don’t have bread that much. It seems like too much work, and too many calories for something I’m not that crazy about.

I was fighting the afternoon munchies today, too. I ended up making an early dinner to keep from caving! Then, went to a meeting after dinner that had a TON of sweets and snacks! Why must I be tortured??!! LOL! I made it through…unscathed 🙂

I haven’t ever made my own jam, but my Mom made an awesome fig jam a while back! I should get her to teach me how!

    I have never made jam.

I love how John scooters to meet you since his bike is on the fritz…so cute. That bagel looks waaay too delicious and so does the salty/sweet snack. Great job on no extra nibbles before dinner.

    Hope mother/daughter time was fun!

I never made jam, I don’t eat it that much either so I just buy it.

    Great active day you had!

Sometimes I don’t feel like cooking dinner or eat it either. Some yogurt with cereal and fruits is a good replacement in that case.

Oh, the asiago cheese bagel is my favorite! Well, my 2nd fave, with the cinnamon crunch I ordered accidentally (thought it was the cinnamon raisin) is my favorite. But the asiago is my fave of the not-sugar-laden variety. 🙂

Looks like a nice day. Do you have a link back to how you make your iced coffees? It’s getting too hot for regular coffee now. The jam exchange sounds like a riot – maybe I can get in next year when I’m more organized. 🙂

I just use 1 cup of ground coffee and 4 cups of water. Let that sit in the fridge overnight, then I filter it and drink! Tastes so much better than cold coffee that was brewed hot.

I love leftovers too! Somehow food to me always tastes better the 2nd day – well a lot of it does! 😉

Lots of good exercise for you!

Make jam – I can barley cook! 😉

I agree – pedestrians can be worse than cars. When I do my 5 km it is a loop of roads in my community. So many people walk/run on the wrong side of the road. The other day I passed a woman running on the wrong side. 3/4 of the way through the loop I see her coming again, still on the wrong side. As we passed I said “you should be running on the other side of the road” She laughed! Laughed! Argh!

When I am passing people who are walking/running/walking on the wrong side I refuse to move out of their way. I have had a few close calls but they have all dodged me.

Maybe you’ve already talked about this somewhere in your blog and you can direct me there, but reading this post makes me nervous to ride my bike where there is a lot of pedestrian traffic because I have no clue what the proper “biking etiquette” is! When I run, I usually stay as close to the right side of the path as possible, and when passing someone, I always say “Coming up on your left” or whatever so I don’t startle them–but other than that, I had no idea that there was a right and wrong side of the path. Maybe you could do a post (if you haven’t already) about the “rules”? 😉

I love reading your blog, it is such an inspiration!
Funny that you ask about jam. Just today I decided to get some plums on my way back from home and will try cooking my very first jam tonight 🙂

Great ride Lori. I LOVE making jam, it’s one of my favorite summer things to do! (I won’t go into to much detail, or toot my own horn loudly, but my jams have on occasion won ribbons…) I made “lower sugar blueberry/rhubarb” last weekend. I don’t actually eat a ton of it, I like giving it to my friends and family too. Can Canadians participate in the jam exchange!?

I believe you can participate and she will try to match up other Canadians, so throw your hat into the ring!

    Hi Lori,

    What is mother daughter cafe?

How do you like Balance Bars? I am looking for a bar I will like. How is the calorie / protein count? I tried Larabars this week and did NOT like any of the 4 I tried. 🙂

My mother and I just go out for coffee, that all LOL.

I love the Balance Bars and used to be quite addicted to them. My favorite flavor is the S’Mores.

The bars are about 210 calories and 15 grams of protein, so better than a Larabar in that respect.

I like the idea of a jam exchange. Unfortunately, I’m not a big jam/jelly maker. I really should but we don’t use that much of it.

It’s funny you mention people breaking the rules on the bike path – I was reading Craigslist yesterday and in the rants/raves section people are really going at it on the same topic. It was hard for me to not join in, especially on the dog topic. NO DOGS!!!

Your bagel looks delicious, and now you’ve got me wanting some BBQ chicken! Thanks a lot! 😛
