It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity

I am melting in this heat.  Actually, it is the humidity that does me in.  I was so tired yesterday that I started to fall asleep in the afternoon.  Then last night I could hardly keep my eyes open and I just gave in and went to bed at 10, turning off the light at 10:30.  I usually go to be around 11:30.

I started my no caffeinated coffee week this week.  😯  I am questioning what I was thinking with my goals this month, but I will persevere.   I roasted up some good decaf yesterday so at least what I drink is good stuff.  I took my first walk around the block while that brewed up and I tried to clear my fuzzy head this morning.

I came back to make some protein waffles and made blueberry sauce from fresh blueberries that I picked on Saturday.  5 pounds of blueberries.  Yum.

I was really tired in the morning.  If it hadn’t been for me being tired yesterday too, I would have put it on the no caffeine, but not so sure now.  Pixie is super hot as well.

Always the lady. 🙄

I took a break for lunch and decided to have some fish.  I have not had tuna for a while since it went back on the ‘dislike’ list, but I do still like these!

These are organic strawberries.  We don’t buy organic on things because of cost.  With the way I go through berries, we just can’t afford the organic.  Of course, who knows what pesticides I am eating.  Oh well.

I really had trouble staying awake after lunch and decided to take my laptop to work in the bedroom with some AC on and take a nap.  I fell asleep for half an hour and it felt really good!  Naps are pretty unusual for me, but I must have really needed it.

I stopped downstairs to get a snack a little later.

Decaf coffee with almond milk and a dried pineapple ring with peanuts.  That was an interesting combo.

I also felt hungry again a little later.  What is up with that?  Heat usually dampens my appetite, but not the last couple of days. I have been snacking like it’s my job.

I had one of my very favorite  snacks:

Medjool dates only for me.  I am totally spoiled.  They are only $4.99 a pound here, so not too bad. It is the one snack I won’t eat too many of because they have such a rich flavor (to me).

We had bought fresh pineapple and I decided I wanted teriyaki chicken with pineapple.  So I commenced to grilling for dinner:

Note I am cooking an extra chicken breast for this week – planning ahead!

John ate his on a plate.  Me, I put mine on a bed of lettuce:

Refreshing.

It is a rest day on the Tour, so no TV tonight.  Can I tell you my geeky happiness?  On Saturday night’s tour recap show, there is a segment called “Ask Bobke” about the tour.  I posted a question to them on Facebook and looked what came on the TV screen!

And he answered it!  Eeeeeee!!!!  I love how they put  MSU on there under my name.  Must have pulled that off my Facebook profile, but I graduated from there with my masters in 1992. (OMG, I just really thought about how long ago that was…).

There is more hot weather coming up in the low 90s (that is really hot for us up here).  And humid.  We had rain today, which just made the humidity worse.  Sometimes it is refreshing after rain, but not so today.  Just need to make it through the next few days.

Question:  Have you ever had grilled pineapple?

Grilled pineapple is a newly discovered favorite. With a little vanilla ice cream it’s the perfect dessert for the summertime.

Grilled pineapple sounds delicious! But what I really want to know is what the answer to your question was? I’ve wondered that about the tour myself.

The answer was that it was both good and bad. They get a lot of adrenaline from the cheering, but sometimes the fans get in the way.

Preston and Pixie are in the same boat, I always want to shave him down when it’s so hot like this. But he’d look so silly bald!

I’ve never had grilled pineapple but I did have pineapple on pizza for the first time last Friday when I babysat (it’s what they always order) and I wasn’t really a fan. I do love pineapple on it’s own though!

I have had grilled pineapple and it was good! I had pineapple and chicken tonight too…but not grilled.

The humidity is really high here too…no end in sight either for now.

    Good luck being decaffeinated!

How very cool that your question was chosen!!!

Yes to grilled pineapple. That stuff is the bomb. I imagine it would be fantastic with some vanilla bean ice cream, but I don’t dare find out, you know?

Hmmm, grilled pineapple sounds yummy! Will have to try it!
Oh and the dates w/ p. btr – they looked like 2 baked sweet potatoes to me – and I thought “what a big snack” haha. Will have to try those too. Oh and too many dates = ummm, TMI??
    LOL

I hate the spectators in the Tour, they danger the bikers and other spectators too. Imagine yourself biking there and some idiot is running so close at you he almost touches you and is screaming in your ear. You can see the irritation on the faces of the bikers sometimes. I do believe they get adrenaline from the cheering but not that close. It’s cool they picked your question.

I never had grilled pineapple but good idea to try this someday on the BBQ.

And humidity is the worst, it makes me tired too all the time.

    LOVE grilled pineapple!!

In another life I want to be your cat. I don’t believe in afterlife but if I did that’s who i’d want to be 😉

The humidity is KILLING me!..and my flowers. Okay, for real those died a month ago because there is this thing called water that they like.

The medjool dates are bigger and much softer than the dates you find in a package, say from Dole. They are almost like candy and oh so good!

Holy cow – this weather is KILLING me too! Tomorrow looks like it’s the hottest day – 98 for the high. Already 15 heat-related deaths have occured in the midwest. What a tragedy!!

Seriously I wanted to lick the blueberry sauce right off the monitor – it looks even more decadent then normal! I love the idea of grilling pineapple. I love fruit!

I didn’t know you graduated from MSU! My father and my brother got their masters there and my parents were married in the MSU chapel. 🙂

We don’t have medjool dates here… very sad.

Lori, my Pixie loving friend & I are just adoring the Pixie pics & wishing we had her life! 😉 She is so cute!!!

Do you think he nap & the tiredness is from both the heat & the decaf coffee vs. regualr… poor bod not used to having no caffeine…

    I love grilled pineapple! YUM!!

COOL on your question being posted – you are more famous now!

  11. e@thisnotedlife

don’t give up on cutting out caffeine! It took me about 3 months but i did it – i did half caffeine/half decaf for a little while then i went to decaff and now i drink water in the morning. But yes, it does take a little while

Hurray for your 5 mintes of fame!

You do realize we’re not getting a break? Weather guy this morning said by Friday it will be downright oppressive. I guess we’ll finally understand how our midwest/southwest friends have been feeling for months. This will be the first time in 10 years that we’ve gone to St. Martin to cool down lol!

I say the decaffeinating is adding to your sleepiness. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

  13. Kelly Happy Texan

That is so cool that they answered your question!!!

Loved grilled pineapple. I like pineapple in any form though. 🙂

Humidity really does suck the life out of you. I was reading an article in Backpacking magazine about how the danger rises and the humidity and heat rise. The higher the humidity the higher the risk for heat related illness. Be careful out there. I’m sure you are.

I always tell people that you have to grow gills to breath the air in our area. LOL

Pixis is adorable. Not bashful at all.

  14. Ang

    I love grilled pineapple! 🙂

At a baby shower the other day a lady brought medjool dates stuffed with almonds wrapped in bacon! Wow it was good!

  15. Roz

Ug….humidity just wipes you out doesn’t it??? Hope the head breaks for you soon!! (Pixie is hilarious! Poor little girl…our late tabby Raleigh used to flip on his back like that in the heat too. Neva just flips like that year round! She too is a lady. NOT! 🙂 ) How fun to see your name on the screen!!! And LOVE grilled pineapple. Topped with a tiny bit of brown sugar? MMM….
    Have a great day.

  16. Chelsie

Grilled pineapple?! Why didn’t I think of that? That sounds amazing, I guess I know what I’m going to have for dinner tomorrow night 🙂
The humidity is awful, I went for a walk and the minute I walked out the door I felt sticky. Ick!
