What’s Blooming Today!

Friday already.  That was a fast week, don’t you think?  I am tired of this, though, aren’t you?:

Sunday should be a cooler day finally!

I went out for an early walk this morning at 7 am and I was soaked after 20 minutes. Yuck.

I made up a banana breakfast pudding and let it sit out to cool down while I got to work (and had the Tour on).  While I waited for that to cool off, I made up some iced coffee!

Yep, decaf.  Still going on the decaf.  I don’t notice it much now.  I think because I am still drinking coffee (yes, I do realize there is trace caffeine in decaf) and I get the psychological boost from it.

I mixed up some peanut flour with honey and water and topped my breakfast with that.  Then I saw the coconut in the fridge and decided for a Friday treat!

I like to live dangerously…

I was not super hungry for lunch because of the heat, so I just put some stuff on a plate and called it good.

Don’t you love meals like that? That was a very juicy nectarine, too!

Now time for this week’s garden blooms.  Half of the garden is all full of color right now.  Gotta wake up the other half!

Next week the butterfly bush will finally be in bloom.  Gheesh!

Sunsprite rose is full of blooms right now.  This year has been the best year so far for this bush.  It likes its home.

I can smell this when standing near the garden.  It’s lovely.

Bi-colored snap dragons by the butterfly weed.

My new Green Envy ecchinacea.  I am a little disappointed that it isn’t more green, but maybe that will come out as the blossoms mature?  Not to mention somebody was nibbling on these!

Galliarda. These pretty much bloom all summer long.

The daylilies are starting to wind down.

Even more blooms on the french marigolds.

I love the creamy poms on these.

Knockout rose.

White swan coneflowers.

I did not plant these here.  They just seeded themselves and I left them.   That’s why a garden is always evolving.  Plants always find the place they like the best to grow.

A couple new flowers will be open next week, too.  Can you wait? I can’t 😀

Another cool snack for today:

I was so productive with work that I finished up my day at 4 pm!  Yippee!  I could then get some guitar playing done before dinner.

Speaking of dinner, I grilled up some more chicken and had it with BBQ sauce, laughing cow and caramelized onions.

Yum, eh?

All chores are done, so I can relax tonight!  Too bad it is so hot or I would go out riding.  I will be having some chocolate, though.  I will have that after I sit down and open up my Google reader for the first time today…

Question:  How are you surviving the heat wave?

Craziness here this week Lori & tried to get to your other post now & found this one – I am pooped from the kiddos but still having fun! More later tonight & tomorrow before they head home. 🙁

LOVE the blooms – beautiful! AND, just have to say that I like onions so the yesterday post which is normally today for me – YUM!

Check out my post today on the heat – how is Pixie doing along with the real people! 😉

    Have a great one!

I LOVE those marigolds, and the snapdragons…next year…

And, thanks for the dinner idea–BBQ chicken salad–yumm

The sunsprite rose is just stunning Lori! Holy cow are those blooms gorgeous! I’m trying to stay cool by staying inside with the fan or A/C unit blowing on me. Hopefully today is the last day and then it should cool off a bit for us. Seriously – the only reason people in WI deal with the freezing winters is to avoid weather like this! 🙂 I love your caramelized onion idea. I will be giving that a try.

What you guys call a heat wave, we call summer, lol!

Love your garden posts. Always nice to see such pretty flowers blooming! 🙂

    Hot here too.
BTW, because of you: (1) I now notice info about the Tour and (2) I am obsessed with finding medjool (sp?) dates…found some others so they’ll have to do for now, but I did see the ones you like advertised but I couldn’t find them in the store 🙁 . Do you put peanut butter on them?

Yes – I love nut butter on the dates! Medjools can be hard to find. I am lucky that our store stocks them in bulk.

I always lean more toward cold foods in super hot weather, too, especially fruits and veggies. Since my oral surgery, I’ve been drinking lots of green smoothies. They’re a nice way to end the day.

Have a nice weekend, Lori! (John & Pixie, too!)

I don’t envy you Lori, those temperatures are too hot for me. Although it’s a bit cool here at the moment and a bit warmer would be nice, I wouldn’t switch with you 🙂 If we have these temperatures it’s usually very humid and I don’t cope with that very well. I usually don’t do much and stay inside or outside in my patio where it stays rather cool.

Your garden is beautiful, as always.

And how exciting is that Tour at the moment! I have to go away in an hour but am recording it so I can see the last bikers finish. I want Andy Sleck to win. I don’t find Cadel Evans not a very nice person.

You could visit the very lovely Pacific Northwest – we’re all swooning here from lack of sunshine 🙂 Ooh, and you could bike in the San Juan Islands – you’d love it! 🙂

Like the rest of the country, it has been really hot here in Missouri. I found out that a pool near me has lap swimming from 10:45-11:45am Mon-Thurs. I had my own lane in a 50 meter pool for $1 – I thought that was a great deal. I would rather be biking or walking, but my body needed a break from the heat and swimming was the answer.

Okay, ew to the onions, but everything else looks delicious – love the plate of bits of stuff.

I am going to the gym today to workout – still too damn hot to run outside!

It has been absolutely brutal here in Texas since the end of May. We’ve topped 100 degrees just about every day since then, and we are in a MAJOR drought. How do we deal with it? Stay inside, stay inside, stay inside… 🙁
Tomorrow’s forecast says 104 and there’s no end in sight.

  12. Jenn@slim-shoppin

I knew my sister Biz would say that about the onions! I on the other hand LOVE it and love adding the laughing cow cheese on top of the chicken. That looks fabulous.

Since I ride my bike to work every day I have an iced coffee with tons of ice and it is AWESOME!

I’m ready for some cooler weather too

I have a question about your butterfly weed. My husband has been talking about this plant. Did you plant it from a seed?

    1. Lori Post author

The butterfly weed is asclepias tuberosa, and those I did grow from seed (although you don’t have to). This is the 2nd year for those.

The butterfly bush (buddeleia) I bought potted because they are bushes and would take too long from seed.
