Bagel Wednesday and the flat tire fairy visits again.

Happy Bagel Day!  I ended up not posting yesterday because it would have just been boring food. I have decided if I don’t have anything to say other than what I eat, I don’t have to post.

John is feeling better, but still has an icky cough.  He was up for riding to breakfast to North Country Cafe.  Here he is milking up his coffee.

I had a wheat bagel as per usual, seeing as it is Bagel Wednesday.

John had some sort of raspberry lemon coffee cake and said it was picture worthy, so there you go.

Normally he doesn’t like to wait for me to take pictures 😀

On the way home, we passed through a construction area that was not there on our way to breakfast.

Shortly after that…. hisssssss… thump, thump, thump.  Yep –

That was a 1-inch screw completely embedded in my tire.  I think that is 12 flats now between the 2 of us since April.  Is that a record?  Hello Guinness, where is my prize? 🙄

At least we are pretty quick with tube changing now.

After a morning where I had trouble focusing on work (is it not Friday yet??), I made up lunch to eat on the porch.

1-minute muffin with peanut flour on top.  I also have not had a pear in about a week, what is up with that?

Another couple of busy days.  Seems like it always comes in clumps, doesn’t it?  I made myself really try to be productive in the afternoon.  But I did take a break for an almond milk latte and a date with PB.

I made up a quick early dinner:

And then commenced to making John’s birthday cake for Thursday.

His request? Boston cream pie.   I have never done this before, but we shall see how it goes. Baking with a box? Yes please!

Cakes are just coming out of the oven and I am off to meet my mom for ladies night! Gotta run 😀

I love coffeecake. I haven’t had it in ages. Mmmm….

What is that cheese you put on your salad?

That really sucks about the bike tire. Maybe it’s time to buy a whole new tire?

Lori you and those flat tires…its almost surreal! Just crazy. As always your food looks yummy. So glad John is feeling better. Summer colds are the worst! Happy early bday to John too. My hubs like cheese cake and we usually go with a frozen one. 🙂 Probably not this year since we will be in the process of moving but one time i will have to make him one from scratch if i can figure it out…..LOL! Great post Lori! Hugs! deb

Holy crap on the flat tire again – that dang construction zone!

John’s muffin looks delish! My post Friday on mine don’t look like that! 😉 Love the look of the place you went to though – so quaint!

    Happy early bday to John!!!

I still have to try that 1 minute muffin!

Baking is totally my thing. We have a “Big Breakfast Sunday” tradition and I’m always trying to find things to break up the eggs, pancakes and Belgian waffles rotation. I love http://www.allrecipes.com for new ideas. A couple of weeks ago I made a blueberry buckle (basically it’s a coffeecake) and it was outstanding! Monkey bread is also a HUGE winner in our house. have you tried that yet?

My husband’s favorite donut is the Boston cream, so I’ve made that cake. Delicious! Enjoy John’s birthday and the cake!

I have made blueberry buckles before and they are yummy. I have not had monkey bread, but my sister’s family likes it.

    Hey Lori,
Just wanted to stop by and finally comment…I’ve been reading your blog for a little while now. I’m a runner and think its so awesome how you have gotten back into shape and bike and run (or starting to get back at it). I also LOVE when you do gluten free posts as I have to be on a gluten free diet. I will admit though…I am jealous when I see your bagel Wednesdays! Bagels are one thing that it is hard to find GF.

Thanks again! Keep up the cool pictures of your food 🙂 Its always fun to read about your day!

John’s coffee cake is completely picture-worthy! Good luck with the Boston creme pie, which always fools me because it’s a cake in disguise!

This summer will definitely be remembered as the summer of flats. Sheesh! Do you have magnets hidden in your tires?

I just got new tires for my truck and got a big screw and washer through it. Luckily the tread was so new and thick it didn’t puncture it but I couldn’t help thinking about you when it happened.

Don’t try the monkey bread. It is addicting.

Did you hear me GROAN when I saw the title of this post!? I cannot believe the bad luck. How fortunate you two are tire-changing pros :/

Let us know how the cake turns out. I once made Boston cream pie from scratch. Took forever to make the cake, the custard, and the chocolate icing… and I wasn’t impressed with my effort. Maybe a boxed mix would have worked better!!

Thanks for the pear reminder. Yours always look so good. I need to get some when I’ve depleted my peach stash.

I agree with Shelley that John’s coffee cake was definitely worth picture taking, it looks delicious!

You should definitely win a prize for most flat tires of the year. The reward should be free tires a year long!

Here it’s Thursday so I end by saying: John happy birthday!

That prize sounds awesome! Every time we get a flat, a new tube is about $3, so we have spent quite a bit on new tubes so far.

John was right and now I want a piece of that coffee cake. Boston Creme is pretty easy to make and I’m sure yours will be spectacular! Ugh on the tires. You guys deserve some flat free months for sure. I am so with you on wanting it to be Friday already, but of course I still have a bit of vacation brain.

Another flat? Surely you have to laugh about it now. It’s just comical how many flats you’ve had this year.

Mmmm….eat a slice of Boston Cream Pie for me. Love that stuff.

A pox on the flat tire fairy! I couldn’t help but think of your experience when I was out riding over the weekend and hoped she wouldn’t pay me a visit!

I’m trying to improve my from-scratch ratio, but there are times when box is best. 🙂
