Storm tracker

Thanks for all the thoughts on my little bike tumble.  Truth be told, I have had much worse.  About 20 years ago, I had a head-on collision with another biker.  I was covered in bruises from that one!  My chest is quite sore today with a bit of a bump.  I actually noticed it most with my C25K training today because it hurt with each step.

After doing the run, I came in for breakfast.

What is that, you ask?  It is waffle integrity fail.  I cooked the coconut flour waffles too long and that makes them stick to the waffle iron and crumble.  Taste = good, appearance = bad.

Another mess?  My lunch!

This was Fage 2% with strawberries, flax, and honey.

I have to say that I am starting to become a little alarmed about Irene.  I don’t like the look of the models.

We have so many trees in the area that just aren’t going to be up to a huge storm.  They don’t bend in high winds, they break.  We figure we will be losing power.

John calmed me down with a latte.  I took a picture sitting down and he is as tall as Paul Bunyan!

Guess that would make me Babe…

We both had long work days today, so we decided to go out for dinner.  Stopped at O’Tooles.

It was quite busy there and a little later than we normally eat.  They now have a dedicated gluten-free menu and a separate fryer.  Isn’t that nice?  Of course, gluten-free doesn’t mean grain-free, so I still had to pick around the menu.  I decided on a baker with chili.

I ate about 3/4 of this potato and I am full now! They have such a huge menu there and you can watch any sporting event on TV.  I like eating here and we probably should do it more often.

After eating, we stopped for a few staples for losing power and such.

Lots of toilet paper, non perishables and nuts!  We also filled up the gas tank.  Yes, early – but we don’t drive very much and figured we would avoid any crowds as the weekend draws closer.

Project Runway *and* football tonight!

Question:  Do you like the bigger pictures or no?

EEK re the storms! We usually just get the tail end of the hurricanes here – usually worse in September, but the ones this year seem to be worse & earlier (or is it just me?). Just this week – weatherwise, we’ve had tornado watches & weather warnings & the earthquake!
I don’t mind smaller pics – if I want to see more, I just click on them and they enlarge. They don’t go any slower for me with high speed internet, but might for others?

I like the bigger pictures – but then again, my eyes are *ahem* old.

    That chili looks goooood!

The storm tracker? No bueno. One thing that I never thought about with a bad storm, until Hurricane Ike hit Houston, was that even though WE had power, other areas nearby didn’t and they were coming up from Houston, filling 5 gallon gas cans, and going back to run their generators…they were out of power for a week. So our gas stations ran out of fuel…good to fill up your tanks, just in case. I hope it isn’t too bad for you guys.

Oh. Love the shot of Paul, er, John!

Hi Lori! No matter how you mess up your cooking, it almost always looks better than what I cook. But mine still tastes good. 😉

I hope Irene passes right by you. We had a wicked, wicked storm last night.

Love the gluten free menu and dedicated fryer! Two thumbs up.

    I like the big pictures…

I’m right on the south shore of LI, so we’re pretty much screwed in several of those little “scenarios.” Supposedly, even if the eye is west of us and hits NYC, the winds to the east of the eye are worse. Got everything in the garage, gassed up this morning and have plenty of food in the house. Hopefully, this too shall pass! Good luck to all!

Wow, I hope the storm tracker is wrong. Regarding the pics, Shelley took the words out of my mouth! And baked potato + chili = love! I just might have that on Saturday!

Glad you stocked up and I really hope Irene just moves out across the Atlantic. I love the bigger pictures. Sometimes I click on your pictures to enlarge them and I always forget that works on Shelley’s blog, but not on your blog. Either way the pictures are certainly enjoyed.

Tangent alert… Paul Bunyan reminds me of Minnesota and riding on their incredible trails – you and John would LOVE them.

Sounds like a good weekend to heal your wounds. That was more than a tumble! And what Kim said is true, you’d love Minnesota trails. I’ll be hitting them next week when I visit my brother again. I hope Irene doesn’t overstay her welcome so you can get back on the bike again. Be safe.

Now that I turned 30 my eyesight has gone. I like bigger pictures too! 😀

Hopefully Irene will loose traction and you’ll miss most of the wind and rain. This will sound weird but I am pretty fascinated by storms. I’ve always thought it would be fun to be in one, provided I knew I would be safe. If you think you might loose power for an extended period of time, fill some large buckets with water for the toilet. Nasty to mention, I know, but it’s better than the alternative!

If I were in the area I would definitely go to O’Tooles with you guys. Would you let me wear my Packer shirt? 😉

I think often the anticipation of a hurricane is the worst, don’t you? With all the technology we have now, we know about it for days on end. The track as of this morning has CT being split in two as Irene comes straight up our middle. Since we’re on the east side of the storm, we will get less rain which I suppose is a good thing. Still, I am trying not to worry. Every single store in the area is out of batteries. Someone posted on Facebook today that BJs has a whole wall of them so I imagine there is a stampede to get them as I type this. I have to grocery shop either tonight or tomorrow since Sunday when I usually do that we will be in Irene’s midst. So not looking forward to that. I am very ready for it to be over!!

I don’t care how bad food looks if it tastes good & most of my concoctions look bad & taste good! I actually thought all your food looked good so tells you how bad mine looks! 😉

Hope all is safe your way! My friends on the Bahamas survived it & even took an after pic with a beautiful sunset from their patio.. they embraced the situation – they amaze me!

Glad you are all set & don’t have to worry about fighting the crowds! Be safe!

Stay safe Lori. I don’t mind either size photos. Like one of the other posters, with the smaller pics I just click if I want to see it bigger.
