Return of the cupcake ride!

Hooray for cupcakes!  That was the plan for Saturday.  I spent the morning puttering in the garden, which is always nice.  Very little traffic on the road, so it was nice and quiet!

I enjoyed some nice custard oats for breakfast with coconut butter and marmalade!

After lunch, it was time to head on down for a ride.  We took our new favorite way to go by the river.  This is also farm country.

This farm is around mile 10 or so.  They have a llama

And some sheep:

So cute.  The sheep were wearing blankets, although I am not sure why because the temps were starting to soar.  It was a hot and humid day.  I was totally soaked by the time we reached Saratoga at mile 23:

I was sticky with sunscreen, too, so I brought along these:

I am glad because it felt really good to clean off!

It was time for Cupcake Lab.  I wanted 2 things today.  The first was a pistachio french macaron:

Must recreate these at home. And for the cuppicake?  Raspberry:

Also had a big ice coffee, which was a little disappointing because it was on the weak side, which is unusual for here.  Don’t you love this flower that was at our table?

It’s called Celosia, or cockscomb.  The only flower that looks like a brain.

We were ready to get our sweat back on after walking around a bit so we saddled up and hit the road.

More animals! Alpacas:

More sheep:

We took a break around mile 36 for a rest and snack:

If you look in the distance in this picture, you can see the Green Mountains of Vermont.  It’s a little hazy from heat and humidity, though.

More farms.  Did not stop near the dairy farms because they were Stanky!  Then there was this one:

We took a long way around to get a few more miles, but we were starting to get tired.  It is almost hard to imagine I did about twice this distance in July in one day.

Ride stats:

Total distance: 52.4 miles

Ride time:  3 hours 54 minutes

Average speed: 13.4 mph

Top speed:  25.1 mph

Calories burned: 1612

All in all a good ride!

That macaroon looks amazing!! I wonder if maybe right after they shear the sheep they have to cover them to help them adjust? Idk, just a thought. 🙂 I like to ponder these things.

You know I liked the animal pics! Texas longhorns in New York! And the sheep usually wear coats because they are a wool breed, and they are protecting the wool for hand spinners. That way the fleece is perfectly clean–no vegetation. They can sell the fleece for a lot more that way.

Impressive ride stats, and what a lovely way to go.

I was looking for a leprechaun to be hiding behind your macaron! LOL!

Yay to cupcakes! Last week, we went to a new (to us) gluten free bakery and they had Bounty cupcakes. The cake was coconut and the icing was dark chocolate…and I didn’t have my camera.

It was so good…they also make doughnuts. Can’t wait to try one.

P.S. I tried to ride a bike at the spa we were at and I failed miserably. 🙁

Love all the animals on your ride, llamas are so cute and so are sheep and alpacas. What a great way to go!

Hi Lori, LOVE the photos. (and love alpachas. Dennis and I once spent a weekend at a B&B on an alpacha farm, we saw a baby being born, fed them and just fell in love with them. Big AWWW) Great looking cupcake ride, who knows, maybe one day you, John, Dennis and I can cupcake ride together. All the best for the rest of the long weekend.

Love this ride, I love to see animals during a run or in your case a bike ride. It never looks the same in my opinion. And the cupcake: drewling over here!

What a cool & picturesque rid Lori! Love the animal pics since I live in a place we don’t see those on the side of the road! 😉

As for that pistachio french macaroon – WOW! Looks amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope you have a good one. Rained here & lightening right now. Weird weather for us!

    Hooray for cupcake rides!

I couldn’t help but laugh looking at your pastoral views. My Greenline ride is largely, well, green, but it also takes us by the State Correctional Center and under a major interstate flyover. I’d take the stanky pasture. 🙂

What a terrific day for riding!

Gotta ask, what do you prefer, that maple cream or the coconut butter? Thinking of buying one for fun to try but I try and regulate new food purchases otherwise I have no room in my cupboards and no money in my wallet. 🙂

I definitely could go for a raspberry cupcake. That sounds so good. Love all the pictures, it’s like we’re right there biking with you

Boy, I am not sure which of those I prefer. I love both and they are very different. I would get the coconut butter first, I think. I don’t know how well the maple cream ships because it has to be refrigerated so it doesn’t melt.
