Tulips and Dragon training

*blink*blink*

Was there a weekend that just went by? I need another one.  I am beat today! Rest day on tap with only walking. We actually had to turn our furnace on. The house got down to 62 degrees, so we caved in and turned it on. With the new windows we got last year, the sun doesn’t warm up the house because we got the e-glass for efficiency.

I made up some warm banana custard oats today topped with pecans and some really yummy apple butter I got from my jam swap partner!

Tasty and nice on a cold morning.

I hope I am officially done with the flat tires. This is not even close to a normal happening. I went 5 years with no flats, then I had 1 each of the last 2 years and now the crazy amount this year. Of course, I have put over 2500 miles on this bike since I got it last August, but I also learned to not use regular tires on my bike trainer in the winter.  Using the trainer will cause the tire to become square and have problems.  So, I saved the old tire to put on the back when the bike comes inside in a couple months.  Or I can ride the trainer without the resistance wheel and just use my gears, which is more likely to happen because I really hate taking the tires off.

Lunch break!

BBQ chicken and some organic grapes. I don’t usually go out of my way to buy organic fruit, but organic grapes were on sale for $1.99 a pound!!

Another beautiful day here.  Good thing because after work I have to plant these:

More bulbs.  I only got 33 bulbs this year.  I was smart and mapped out my garden a couple weeks ago on graph paper and looked at my photos from the spring to see where I had bulbs and marked where space was available for new ones.  I actually am on the ball this year! It only took me 5 years to to this…

Latte break. Giving my approval to John’s barista skilz.

On the work front, I decided to go ahead and buy the speech recognition software to do echo dictation rather than straight typing and see if I can save my hands and wrists.  I have been having arthritis pains in my hands and since I type for 6.5 hours a day just for work (not counting blogging and emails and general stuff), I am trying to be proactive.  I bought Dragon Naturally Speaking, so I am now training my Dragon to love me and my speech patterns.

I am going to try to have it write my blog posts starting tomorrow and hopefully be on board with work at the end of the week. There is a lot of medical terminology that Dragon needs help with (cholodochojejunostomy anyone?).

It’s actually pretty amazing at how accurate it is right out of the box.

I wasn’t sure what to have for dinner tonight, but as I went into the kitchen, John had the popcorn fish out  and I knew that was what I wanted!

Then John and I took a nice long walk.  Cool evening, but nice.  Now it is time to work with Dragon  and Monday Night Football!

Question: Do you purchase organic regularly?

I am too cheap to buy organic. And funny, I had red grapes for dinner, too – only about twice as much as you! 🙂

Voice-recognition programs fascinate me. Of course, my DVR still amazes me – you can pause live TV! I’m easily amused.

That is fascinating about the dragon equipment. I looked at that when I thought my hands were going to be out of commission.

Mmmm. I’m gonna have oatmeal tomorrow. Don’t quite have the chilly weather to go with it though. And I am so impressed with your bulb organization. I just never think about ordering them until it is actually time to plant.

My problem with bulbs is that they send the catalogs in early summer and I go overboard forgetting that I have to actually find places and plant all the bulbs!

If the price is right, I will purchase organic fruit and vegetables.

The meat I buy is antibiotic and hormone free and that is worth the price to me.

We have Dragon at work…but only if you need it. Very cool that you are trying it out.

It can be outrageous to buy some things organic. I tend to look at the “dirty dozen” and try to always buy those things organic unless there’s a good deal and not much or a price difference.

I’ll be interested to see how that speech recognition software works for you. I’ve heard a trick is to make sure when you are setting it up to speak naturally. If you slow down and enunciate the words more than usual then when you speak normally it doesn’t pick it up quite as well.

I hate classes on Monday nights. I miss the football action! Grr!!

I try to buy organic as much as possible.

Please keep us updated on the dragon speech rec.. I am in the same line of work as you and my hands and wrists are feeling the strain. It is something I too might be interested in purchasing.

    Thanks for sharing

If organic is on sale or cheaper (or close in price) to regular, I buy it. A lot of my gluten-free items are organic already, so yes, I do eat a lot of organics. Wish I could always buy it – but $ is a factor.
Love the dragon idea – I used to do a lot of dictation when I worked full-time – loved it. A lot of what I typed were articles for magazines and speeches – very fascinating! I learned a lot!
I couldn’t get on here last night – tried many times. Ugh, Ugh.

I don’t go out of my way to buy organic either. I do try to buy local and like you will indulge in organic if it’s on sale.

I think you need a road trip… come to CT and help me plant my bulbs?!! I have a spare room and I’ll feed you. 😀

My boss has the same recognition software (or similar) and I haven’t done any dictation in months! So weird when I first started being a legal secretary, that’s all I did was dictation all day.

But then again, that was 20+ years ago!

Hi Lori, we have a dragon at work….and we’re all looking forward to her upcoming retirement. Kidding, kidding…well, sort of. I only buy organic if it is the same price or cheaper than the conventional. But I do try to buy local as much as possible. Have a great day.

I forgot to come back after the down time with your blog – sorry!

I think a smart move for you & your hands with all the blog & work you do with them!!! Worth the money. As my hubby says when I buy workout shoes – how many times do you use them & divide that out & they are worth the price! 🙂

I wish I could buy more things organic Lori but I can’t. I look for sales & a couple things I just do if the price is not too much different.
