Non bagel day!

Rainy, rainy morning.  No biking today.  The people at the cafe also mentioned that fact that we didn’t bike there    (might be that we are known for biking around these parts!) It still was supposed to be bagel day, though.  Except there were no wheat bagels available.  So what did I have instead? Pumpkin coffeecake!

This was good, but I was really full from it.  It actually kept me full for hours! Not sure I liked the sugar feeling, though.  I definitely don’t eat stuff like this for breakfast very often and not likely to change that.

Work was hard today.  Very difficult dictator all day long and it hurts my brain.  It always amazes me how being mentally exhausted also makes you physically tired.

I decided to boost my brain with a big protein hit for  lunch with chicken salad.  This was about 4 ounces of chicken!

Mixed with some mayo, curry powder, chopped apple and grapes.  Good stuff.

We have cold weather now.  High in the mid 40s, so Pixie was glommed onto me, which is fine.

Then she stretches out.

I had to move her at that point as I don’t type with 1 hand.

I took a break to make the lattes again today, but I skipped the liquor

Along with some nuts:

I finally slogged through work.  My brain was totally fried.  I couldn’t even think about dinner.  I stood there snacking on pretzels.  Don’t you love those times? Almost went to get a slice of pizza, but John decided to cook up a cube steak for us.  I couldn’t even muster up the energy to cook up any veggie, so I just cut up a pear  😳

One way to get the energy back up up?  Hit the gym!  My mother and I now belong to the same gym, so we hit the gym tonight.  Wednesday night is mother/daughter night and we get together for something.  What better than being active?

I made mom go into the Iron Den LOL!

Exercise Set/rep/weight Muscle worked
Split Squats 3 sets of 10 with 65# bar Lower body
Single Dumbbell Row 3 sets of 10 with 20# DBs (40# total) Back
Flat Dumbbell Fly 3 sets of 10 with 20# DBs (40# total) Chest
Horizontal Wood Chop 3 sets of 10 at 30# Core
Calf Raise 3 sets of 10 at 80# Calves
Triceps Pull Down 3 sets of 10 at 30# Triceps
Upright Row 3 sets of 10 with 15# DBs (30# total) Shoulders
Stiff Legged Deadlift 3 sets of 10 with 20# DBs (40# total) Hamstrings and low back

Weird seeing this table at the end, isn’t it? I can’t even remember the last time I did a nighttime gym workout. I think at least a couple years!

It felt good to work out.  You never, ever regret a workout.

Afterwards we stopped for a bit of decaf:

Today’s pink item?  Soap colorant:

This was used for my big soap order this week.

I’m gonna try to remember your statement “you never ever regret a workout” tomorrow to get me into the gym! Its been a busy week. Not so much mental like yours though. Just a little too much running around. And the sugar? Yeah. Still like the flavor of it going down, but sure don’t like the feel after!

Since I’ve been reading your blog I can’t remember a lifting workout in the evening either.

I totally get you about being mentally and physically tired. My husband doesn’t understand that: he has a job working with his hands and standing on his feet the entire day. I have a desk job and he can’t understand that I’m tired sometimes. I gave up trying to explain that if your mind has been busy all day that’s tiring too. Men 🙂

I think your life is near perfect. 🙂 You have Pixie as a working partner and can have workout nights with your mother! I’d love that, but my mother lives too far.

BTW do you have someone to plan your strenght workouts for you?

Nope, ya never regret a workout for sure! Good for you AND mom!!!!!!!

OK, that miss Pixie is too cute! She does have the life!

UGH on the work but that pumpkin coffeecake sure looked delish! Hope your brain feels better!

And here I was thinking the 50 degrees this morn was chilly! 😉

It’s amazing how when your body isn’t used to bad food, it doesn’t do well when you start eating it at odd times. I remember I used to grab cheesecake pancakes every Saturday morning and they always tasted great. Then a couple months ago for my birthday I went back as a treat (I’d been saying NO to the high-calorie cakes) and they didn’t taste good and made my stomach hurt. All those chemicals, sugars, refined flours…. not good for me at all.

But, all that aside, the pumpkin coffeecake looked ridiculously tasty and would be worth it. 🙂 Love pumpkin!!

The pumpkin coffee cake looks good enough to be a dessert!

When you said you stood there snacking on pretzels bells went off for me… that’s exactly what I do when I’m overly tired and in the kitchen. It’s almost like my brain/body wants to chew in order to relax. That is one aspect of eating that I’m still working on.

I can so relate with being physically tired when you are mentally exhausted. My job does that to me. 10 hours of doing math, remembering every little detail about every product we sell, trouble shooting–it really wears me out!

That’s so great that you are working out with your Mom! I would love to do that with my Mom but she lives 4 hours away. 🙁

I’m fortunate in that I don’t generally feel any sort of sugar aftermath. Only at Christmas when I have too much. Way too much. 🙂

I enjoyed working out after work (5 p.m. or so), but I’m not sure I’d enjoy a nighttime workout as much. I’ll have to experiment! 🙂

So true about mental and physical fatigue going hand in hand. And two words..”OH PIXIE!!!” Hilarious photo of her doing what we call for Neva “the baby hold”.
    Happy Thursday Lori!

Your pumpkin coffee cake looks like pumpkin whoopie pies I make this time of year…yum. Funny, but I don’t handle sweets for breakfast hardly more either – since eating better. Weird. I used to love a huge, warm cinnamon roll with coffee.

I’m late on this comment, but I still hope your days have been better.
