Trying to stay warm!

Almost to the end of the week. This week has seemed long to me.  It was also so cold yesterday, as you saw from my photo.  I could not stay warm all day!  My mother and I went out for coffee last night as well to no avail at keeping warm.

I couldn’t get myself to go in the cold to the gym this morning and since I would have had to search in the dark for my gym clothes, I decided to stay at home and ride the trainer.  But first was breakfast:

Banana bread pudding with peanut flour and jam.  Unfortunately, I think I overcooked it because it was a little dry.  Don’t you hate it when you make a regular item and it doesn’t come out right?

I ate within my calories yesterday, and my indulgent meal was breakfast out where I had a blueberry scone (no bagel).  It was really good, too!  I have been on plan since Sunday, which is good for me and really helping it sink in that I am working hard at it again.  Once I get past this weekend, I will feel like I have got this down again.  It’s really amazing what just cutting out my nibbles and snacks has done.  I was getting a bit careless with it.  I was hungry before lunch, though, and instead of a bunch of nuts or chips, I had a hardboiled egg:

With a pinch of salt.  I haven’t had a hardboiled egg like this in ages!

Lunch time and I wanted something warm.  It is cold again today, but 30 degrees, so a bit warmer than yesterday.  I mixed some cooked ham into that sweet potato soup so that it flavored it up more.

Pixie was all puffed up from the cold.  She has been wanting a lap big time, but some days it is too hard to work with her there.  So, she watched from afar and nodded off:

I did hop on the trainer for 15 minutes in the early afternoon, which I found is a great way to get just warmed up enough.  Our house is very old and kind of drafty, so we can’t keep the heat up too high or we would never be able to pay for it.  We did get a new furnace and new windows, which really helps, but it doesn’t help poor insulation.

Something else that helps?  Latte!

I drank this while watching the snow come down.

Just a little dusting.

Colorful plate for dinner today:

BBQ pork, fingerling potatoes and broccoli.  Tasty.

I have been wanting to snack a little more today.  Possibly from the wheat yesterday with my scone?  Who knows.  I do have a review of Wheat Belly coming up.  I have not nibbled much, though, which is a big victory.  Old habits really do die hard.

John had kettle corn tonight, and while that would be good, I stuck to my plan and had some yummy clementines, which are sitting next to me as I write this post.

Although I did have to taste test the kettle corn!

I will leave you with the fun little meme going around Facebook to find the song that was #1 on the day you were born and find a youtube video.  Mine was Mrs. Robinson by Simon and Garfunkel.  I like that song!  I actually like S&G a lot.

Now that tune has been going through my head for the afternoon. To heck with Mrs. Robinson, here’s to me!!

What a fun link – my song was “It’s My Party” by Leslie Gore – I love that song! 🙂

Exercising to warm up? Actually a good idea. I’ve spent days like yours where I was just cold all day long…doing a little workout probably would have helped.

Some days, you just can’t get warm! When Neva tucks all of her legs like Pixie is in the photo, we call that her “pillowesque” stance. Pixie is therefore, pillowesque too. Awww. Have a great end of the week Lori. (I agree, for a short week, it’s seemed long!)

Ooh, I do not like being cold! Do you wear lots of layers in your house?

And I agree, a little workout definitely warms me up. But its hard enough to make myself go outside when its 40 degrees, much less in weather like yours!

Good job on keeping on the straight and narrow!

Yes. I usually have on a turtleneck and a sweater of some sort. Plus a little jacket that I like to wear if the other layers aren’t too bulky.

I like your song better than my song!
Good luck keeping warm – we also have a drafty old house so I know exactly what you mean. I am frozen when I get up from being behind the computer for a while. Sometimes jumping jacks help!

I’ve really been watching my eating these past couple of days. It’s amazing how much I used to nibble and I had to put EVERYTHING up off the counter so I think before opening up something.

I’m sending warm weather your way. Supposed to hit 43 here today. Super insane!

The song that was #1 when I was born? ‘Endless Love’ Diana Ross & Lionel Richie

My trigger foods go up high. I had to put the cashews up there this week as well LOL. It really does help.

Archie Bell & The Drells? Never heard of it. I like Mrs. Robinson more 🙂

Now you got me curious: what did you where on the bike trainer instead of your gym clothes.

I wear bike clothes for the trainer. I wear my padded shorts, which I would never wear to the gym LOL! Those clothes weren’t in the bedroom where John was sleeping.

Our house is older and draftier too. It’s one of the reasons I love the little gas fireplace in my family room. We can hunker down there and be very warm.

Glad to hear your eating has been on track. I know that was important to you. Your Banana Bread Breakfast has been my go-to all week – also trying to eat warm filling food!

I need to do that song thing. Mine will surely be something nutty.

That was alot of fun Lori. My song was RESPECT by Aretha Franklin. LOL! Other dates i checked for my family i don’t even recognize the song. I’ll have to go youtube and check it out. 🙂 Thanks! deb

PIXIE!!!!!!!!!! So cute & to sleep like that! 🙂

Lori – good for you & sticking to plan! Even with our “snacks” for the day, it so makes a big difference on what types of healthy snacks we eat – oh yes it does! 😉 CONGRATS!!!

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR – it is nice here! You can come visit but I know you are headed to Florida soon!

Jailhouse Rock – good ole Elvis for me!

I like your song way better than mine! I wish I could fluff up like Pixie — must be a great way to stay warm without having to put on an extra layer. Congrats on corralling the snacky monster. You’re doing great!

Our house is the same way- built in 1957. We’ve replaced the windows and re-insulated when we re-sheetrocked, but it’s still drafty. I have 3 zones in my house, so we keep the front and the upstairs of the house pretty cold and the living room, which is a 20×20 extension on the back of the house warmer, since it’s where we all spend most of our time. Like my mother said when we were cold “Put on a sweater!” That’s a lot cheaper than the oil bill!

Our house is 100 years old so there is really no insulation at all and the thought of tearing out all the lathe and plaster walls to reinsulate is enough to send me screaming into the night LOL! I’ll just bundle up 😀
