Snow and waiting…

We have had snow finally!  The first real snow of the year.  It actually is melting pretty quick and was easy to shovel.  A nice bit of cardio and strength workout doing that today.

I made up a warm and toasty breakfast of the 1-minute waffle.

Yesterday was not a great eating day for me.  I did some stress snacking.  I am not sure if any of you remember I mentioned my bloodshot eye a couple weeks ago.  I thought it was a broken blood vessel.  It didn’t go away and then appeared in my other eye.  So both eyes are bloodshot now.  (very attractive).  I figured that I had an eye infection and would head to the doctor, get some some drops and be on my merry way.  That was Tuesday night when I went in.

The doctor said my eyes are not  infected and it is a sign of some other underlying problem with me.  She asked me if I had any issues with my thyroid.

Now, I had some inklings in the back of my mind about my thyroid because I gained weight recently, I am noticing my hair is falling out more than I would like and my skin is dry (when it has always been oily).  You try to explain those things away by saying “Oh, not biking as much and it was the holidays, the air is really dry in the house, etc.”, but you know in the back of your mind there is a niggling thing?

So, instead of a prescription for eye drops, I came out with a lab draw. The doctor wouldn’t give me any kind of working diagnosis, which is driving me insane because when you do medical transcription, you begin to think you have every disease you type about.  I had the thyroid panel drawn, plus ESR (which is a test for inflammation/autoimmune), metabolic panel and complete blood count.  If these tests are normal, then I have to see an ophthalmologist.  I had the draw yesterday morning and now it is the waiting game to see what these tests show.  They said results hopefully Friday.

I have to admit that I have a lot of anxiety about this.  One being what it is and how serious.  Then there is the money end.  Something a person who doesn’t have insurance wants to hear is something about running a bunch of $$$ tests.  But, if I have to work some Saturdays for a while, that is what I will have to do.  I just hate not knowing.

So anyway, I snacked yesterday.  It wasn’t mindless munching, per se, because I was deliberate in the eating, but I certainly didn’t need to  do it.

Today has also been a little trying as well.  Lunch included some leftover stuff.  Just BBQ pork, nut thins and a pear.

I was fine with eating and then lattes were had.

Cookie +2.

I wasn’t sure what to make for dinner, so I snacked on cheese and pretzels while I thought.

(this was just some of what I ate).

I decided on shrimp with broccoli.  Easy enough.

No fruit with dinner because of the pretzels before.

So, yeah.  It was one of those days.  At least there is tomorrow.

I hope you get GOOD news but, more importantly, I hope you get answers. With the medical stuff I’ve gone through and am going through, the most frustrating thing is wondering what might be wrong and not getting any answers.

Hang in there, eat an extra chocolate cookie (or three), and as hard as it will be – focus on something else until you know what’s up. Keep us posted!!

Welcome to the stress eating club! Seriously, I’m sorry you are going through this. I hope it turns out to be nothing. I’ve wondered if I have thyroid issues lately. I just don’t want to get checked. The idea of taking medication freaks me out. Childish, I know.

(((hug)))…hope you get your results soon, and that everything will be okay. I’m sorry to hear that this is happening to you, but I’ll be thinking of you and hoping for the best, too!

Thought of you this morning – my husband and I were watching something about coffee on chow.com, and he was amazed that people roast beans using a hot air popcorn popper! 🙂 How long do you usually roast them for when you’re roasting? We might give this a try.

I hope everything is okay with you Lori and I totally understand your stress snacking. I would do the same. Waiting for results is always the worst because till that moment you can’t do anything about it.

So you finally got snow. Winter here is still very mild this year. Still not complaining about that 🙂

Oh, you’re telling us you’re human and you worry about things? You could be stress drinking adult beverage which would be worse IMHO.

Thyroid issues are fixable. Yes it can be aggravating and take some time but totally fixable. Having said that, I hope it is something nutty that can be fixed with some eye drops!

    Keep us posted.

Lori–Just wanted to send good thoughts your way, as I know waiting for test results can be stressful. But if your results show hypothyroidism, take heart. This is a syndrome that is easily handled by medication. I know..I have been hypothyroid for 15 years. I am 59 and meds really do a good job in regulating low thyroid. I read your blog often, and think you do a great job in balancing life and maintenance.

Thoughts are with you! I can feel how incredibly strong you are….whatever the results, it will all turn out fine. Keep the faith.

Oh Lori! I’m so sorry you are having to go through this–especially the waiting! The group of symptoms does sound like a thyroid thing–let’s hope its a simple one that can be solved with a pill a day!

Yes, being a medical transcriptionist must be like being a nurse–looking at a list of symptoms and thinking of the worst thing it could be!

    Lori,
Hope those test come back ok. I know how stressful it can be wating for test results. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism last year but the medication I am on has helped alot. My stress now is going back to school at 51 years old for Medical Coding and Billing and the medical terminology and anatomy is really stressing me out.
