Blog woes

It’s only Tuesday, right?  It feels later than that. It was soooo cold this morning when I went to the gym. In the 20s!   😯  I had to warm up the car and get my winter coat on.

I increased some reps and weights on a couple moves in workout A today.  I am loving these workouts.  Did I already say that?  Because I will say it again!  I definitely feel like I get a great workout when I finish.  I  will say that I need that protein drink  right when I am finished, too.  I drink it in the car.

Breakfast was the 1-minute muffin today, with pumpkin.  Topped with peanut flour and some lemon curd.  I love the curd!  Not sure if it goes really well with the peanut flour, but I wanted the protein.

I know this doesn’t look big, but with 3 cups of coffee and the 12 grams of fiber, my tummy is full for a few hours!  Way better than the chia mess I made yesterday.

So regarding the blog, I have to say the the comment feed thing with my blog is really bothering me.  I know some of you have no idea what I am talking about, and be glad you don’t. I have never gotten the extra feed, but this morning I did.  I can’t seem to get an answer from anybody. Talking to Google for the reader is like slamming my head a against a brick wall.  My host says there is no problem they can see and it is WordPress or Google.  Wordpress thinks it is my host.  And I am stuck in the middle about ready to tear my hair out!

I personally think it has something to do with wordpress, but I don’t know what.  I know that other wordpress blogs are having difficulty with comments – as in not being able to log in to comment.  I would rather have *that* problem, but I wonder if somehow they aren’t related. I reinstalled the latest version of wordpress and I am hoping and crossing my fingers that this helps.  I guess as a last resort I will move my blog to another hosting service in hopes of stopping that feed, but short of that I am out of options.  I don’t think I have ever wanted to cry about my blog, but this is about going to do it.  I feel really bad about the extra feed in people’s readers.

Plus, I am getting eight million questions about the 1-minute muffin. Someone either pinned it on facebook or something because that specific page got 2000 hits yesterday and is on pace for that again today if not more.  It’s now the most popular page on my blog, which is funny because the recipe is one that has been circulating the net for years, although not with my variations (I don’t think?).  Anyway, some of the emails are crazy and some aren’t very nice.  You definitely need a thick skin to be a blogger, which is also kind of adding to the wanting to cry about the blog.  It would be one thing if blogging was my paying job, but it isn’t.

But, I guess this is a First World problem, right?  Onwards to lunch! I was in a hurry because I spent part of lunchtime talking with support about my blog.  So, I quick scrambled some eggs.  Since it was a cold day, hot sauce was in order!

Work was also really, really busy today.  That’s a good thing, though.  Cannot complain about that.  I was surprised when it came to latte time!

Trying a different view here.  Not sure it works…

One good thing – I’ve still got control of the snacking.  Even with all these issues I haven’t snacked, so I will take that as a victory for now.  I kind of wanted to snack while making dinner, but I decided to get a mint instead.  We cooked up some marinated chicken.

and my food is touching! Oh no!

John looked at my plate and said something to the effect of  “That’s a Lori plate if there ever was one.”

Treat tonight?  Going out for coffee!  Here is a picture of what I will be having:

Recycled pics! But, I wanted to be complete and still get this posted before we left.  I need a nice breather and internets break tonight.

Gotta cover up the rose bushes  as it is going to be another freezing night here.  We went from summer back to winter!  Crazy.

Cross all your collective fingers and toes that the comment feed disappears – even if you don’t know what I am talking about!

So far today my RSS hasn’t had that issue with your blog. So crossing fingers that it’s fixed! Blog issues are so frustrating! I’ve been there many times and I am so limited in my abilities to fix “weirdness.” Talk about frustrating.

I know – I can fix a fair amount of things, but not when it is something transient and unidentifiable. I hope you didn’t jinx yourself on getting the extra feed now LOL!

  2. debby

Can’t the people just unsubscribe or something?

That’s weird about rude comments about the one minute muffin. What is wrong with people. Do you think you got 2000 hits because I talk about it on my blog so much LOLOL. Oh I crack myself up.

Lori, you didn’t mention that you were featured on Miz’s blog this morning. THAT is the kind of attention you deserve. You are one of the nicest bloggers out there. I gotta figure out an excuse to come to New York so we can meet!

I like the sideways pic of you. And you looking so cheerful after such a frustrating morning.

    1. Lori Post author

I know Debby – I realize I didn’t mention Miz’s post! And it was so nice and fun, too!

And I don’t think you need an excuse to come visit – that would be the purpose! 😀 Isn’t that what retirement is for??

    2. Helen

YES DEBBY! COME TO NEW YORK! I would even sacrifice and drive to see you – that is if you two fabulous maintainers can stand to have a “dieter” in your midst… 😀

What in the world is going on with people sending mean emails about muffins?! I’m so sorry about that – your blog is so fun & I really enjoy reading it. Keep it up & ignore the meanies! 🙂

  4. Cammy@TippyToeDiet

I’m sorry you’re having blog issues. Better than food issues, though, right? 🙂

I can’t speak for everyone who’s getting the extra feeds, but for me it’s not a problem AT ALL. Well, I guess it IS a problem for the 1.5 seconds it takes me to fix it. I wish all my problems were that easy to remedy!

Re: the muffin meanness. You *could* become the muffin Nazi (a la Seinfeld’s Soup Nazi) and refuse to discuss it with people who don’t pass the courtesy test. Just a thought.

WordPress, I think, is what is messed up – the comment issue that was going on? Silly. I had to create another “me” to be able to comment on most WP blogs. And with a WP blog, you have to find a host? I just use Blogger for mine. Which is a good thing as I’m too dumb to really figure this stuff out.

So really, people are sending mean emails about a freaking muffin? FFS. Although, I have a bitchy troll who visits my blog every few posts, so I understand your feelings. And it does suck when you get all these nice comments from VERY NICE PEOPLE (grin) and yet the one or two nasty comments are the ones that bring you down. Big hugs – I get ya on this.

Hope getting out and enjoying some coffee helps tonight!

    1. Lori Post author

Well, I use the wordpress software, but have it hosted on my own domain, which is why I don’t have the other type of commenting issue (I think).

And you all are very nice. I was saying to John that I feel like I have a little community here and when that post got popular, it was like all these strangers coming in and milling about.

  6. suzanne

I haven’t had a problem with your blog but I have had problems with other wordpress blogs that make me use my twitter account to comment!
I can’t believe that people would get their knickers in a twist over a muffin.

  7. Kristin

I’m sorry about the troubles with your blog! I have been getting the extra comments, but so far none today. Fingers-crossed it’s fixed! They usually come right when your new post shows up in my reader, so I’m hopeful.

I’m not sure if this is helpful to wordpress/hosting/Google folks as you troubleshoot, but I realized tonight that even though I only have the findingradiance dot com as the subscription URL, my Google reader thinks that I am subscribed to “Comments On: Birds of Prey and renovation update” post from 3/2011.

      1. Kristin

Actually, I think it happened when I first deleted and added the feed back. It just spontaneously went back to the normal “Finding Radiance” though, so hopefully that is a good sign.

  8. Kim

I don’t know about the comment issue, but I’m sending a hug because it is causing you stress:(

  9. Cathy O

I’ve had the extra postings the past week-ish. It wasn’t that big of a deal. Looks good today! Keep up your great blog. It’s been an inspiration for me to find the right track. Thanks for your hard work!

  10. Fran

I still don’t understand why people send nasty emails. I always say that if you haven’t got anything nice to say, don’t say anything.

I use the WordPress software too on my own domain but haven’t got problems with it.
I unsubscribe your blog and subscribed again and I now get just the new posts in my reader. I do have to log in since a few days with my wordpress account though, to comment on WordPress blog but it doesn’t really bother me. I find the new word verification on Blogger that some people still use much more annoying.
Don’t worry to much about it Lori, I just mark everything read and problem solved if it are comments on old blogs. I would never stop reading your blog because of this because you’re one of my favorites.

  11. Satu

Oh, I’m glad I don’t use feed readers! I’ve noticed thought that it’s difficult to comment on some folks blogs but I thought it’s mainly a wordpress.com problem.

I would have had a grand nibble attack in your situation!

  12. Ali @ Peaches and Football

Don’t be stressed Lori! The crazy people come out everywhere as soon as a blog gets popular.

We all love the one minute muffin and now I’m getting emails about it too. It’s wonderful!

Everyone knows you are doing your best to fix the extra feed but like the rest (or most) of us, we’re not experts in blog technology. All we can do is the best we can.

Hang in there and good job with the snacking and weights!!

  13. Biz

I think its wordpress because people who have commented all the time now have to log in with either a different email address, or with Google – so weird! I am so not technical so I just assume it will work itself out somehow.

    Happy Wednesday!!

I don’t do the fee thing so no issues here & at least I can comment which I can’t other places. WP is really a pain in the arse sometimes! I don’t use it right now but makes me wonder for the future! And I agree, for a non paying gig, all the mean comments & stuff really – take a toll! Sorry you are getting that!

Hey, so glad you are liking your workouts!!! Very exciting!

  15. Helen

Oh for goodness sake, people are being mean about your MUFFINS? They need to get a life. I never have and never will understand people’s necessity to be mean over a food item. Dumb trolls.

P.S. I think whatever you did fixed the issue because *so far* the extra that had been in my reader is gone. However, I’m with Cammy, it only took me a second to bypass it anyway and your blog it totally worth that 🙂

  16. Dari

Dr. Northrup posted about your muffin on fb. That may have caused an increase in interest. That is what did it for me! Looking forward to trying them.

  17. janetha

yeah it is so weird how i have so many new items in my google reader from you but they are super old comments! same thing happened with allison from green dog wine. hope you figure it out!

funny about the muffin exposure. that’s what i have found with pinterest–it brings attention to SUPER old posts!

  18. Michelle

Okay your dinner plate looks delicious…is that sauteed cabbage or brussel sprouts?
Would you mind sharing how you cooked them?

I’m a long-time lurker to your blog & just wanted to add that I love it & you are one of the sweetest bloggers…thank-you for sharing all of your wonderful meals! 🙂

    1. Lori Post author

Michelle – those are sauteed brussel sprouts. I use a knife and shred them (you can use a mandolin, but I am too lazy to get mine out). I saute in some coconut oil with salt and pepper – maybe 8-10 minutes tops.

  19. Kathy W.

I don’t use the feeds feature, but I know how frustrating fixing a website can be! Hope it resolves itself & that the dumb emails dwindle to nearly none.

  20. SlimKatie @ Runs for Cookies

Oh no! I’m so sorry about the muffin–I wrote about it on my blog yesterday, and I got an abnormally huge amount of hits on my blog yesterday for some reason too. Maybe that was the problem. Why on earth would people write you a not-so-nice e-mail about a muffin?!

I’ve been getting the extra feeds, and I was thinking it was something that I accidentally subscribed to. At least I know it’s not my mistake 😉 I hope you get it figured out, that technical stuff is so frustrating!

    1. Lori Post author

It is silly some the emails that were sent to me. Not really a large percentage of emails were mean, but when you get enough of them, it gets annoying.

It wasn’t your blog that was sending the traffic. It actually came from facebook – so no worries.

  21. Maren

It’s so funny that you wrote about lemon curd because I bought that at this fancy grocer the other day and I have nooooo idea what to do with it. I’ve just nibbled at it with a spoon because it tastes good :p

  22. dawn

That Latte looked as big as your head (I retyped that 3 times) hopefully that doesn’t sound like I’m saying you have a big head rather the other way around lol. Anyway, sorry your having trouble with the blog stuff. Congrats on the story on mizfit you deserve the recognition 🙂 you’re great!
