Is it Tuesday?

I had no idea what day it was today, don’t you hate it when that happens?  John played poker last night.  He normally plays on Wednesdays.  So, I thought it was Thursday when I got up and went to the gym.  Bummer that it was only Tuesday LOL.

It was kind of one of those wacky spring weather days, too.  It was cold when I got up for the gym and the sun tried to peek out at times, but seemed somewhat unsuccesful.  We had some sleet at times, too.  Looks like no biking tomorrow for bagels:

No S word, please.

I tried a different protein shake today.  I blended a kiwi with almond milk, protein powder and cinnamon.  Do not do this.  At first, the shake was pretty good.  As per usual, I had half before my workout.  When I tried to drink the rest after the workout – it had turned horribly bitter while sitting.  Like chewing on orange pith.  Yuck!!  I couldn’t finish it.

I also played around with breakfast.  I took a serving of oats and ground them up, then added 1 tablespoon of flax meal, 1/4 cup liquid egg whites, 15 grams of protein powder, cinnamon and 1 teaspoon of honey.  This made a very thick batter, which I pressed into a fry pan.

Looks like a pancake, but I could pick it up like a cookie. It actually had the chewy texture of an oatmeal cookie, and I think of this more like a cookie than anything else.  Dense and chewy.  It would be good with raisins, but it is pretty dense.  Maybe adding some baking powder would help or baking it.  Or maybe not grinding the oats.  I need to do some playing.

Work dragged on and on today.  Some of my least favorite doctors working today.  That always makes the time go slow.

I was happy to break for lunch.  (That breakfast was dense enough to last until lunch, so yay on that).  I made up some peanut flour with cinnamon, salt and a few grams of honey.  Plus a coconut biscuit.

I was going to spread the PB on either the pear or the biscuit, but then I ended up eating everything separate.  For some reason, at this point I was thinking it was Wednesday, but nope, still Tuesday. Ugh?

I have been doing well with my no snacking.  I had a few Nut Thins today, but that is it.  I had a day on Saturday where I really wanted to snack, but managed to control it.  I do wish the scale would be nice about that, but I can’t focus on that at all.  It’s not that important in the scheme of my fitness endeavors.

However, I was ready for the latte that John made up for me.

Hooray for coffee!

John made a comment that he heard me grouching at the doctors today LOL. Good thing *they* can’t hear me!

I ended up having almost the same main dish for dinner tonight as last night. We had chicken thighs and I cooked one up and topped it with the leftover tomato topping from yesterday.

This is an actual serving of strawberries, too.  I never weigh out my fruit or veggies, but I was curious. (I do weigh everything else).  Dole has 147 grams of berries as a serving, which is 8 medium berries or a cup of berries.  I don’t know exactly what a medium berry is since most berries are the size of a Smart Car anymore.  So, I weighed them out.  I tend to eat 1 or 2 more berries than this, but pretty close.  I guess these must have been medium size berries because I think there were 7 or 8.

Tonight I am out for coffee and mother/daughter time!

Question: Do you weigh or measure foods?

Oh my gosh, I can’t believe you have the S-word in your weather forecast. That is crazy. I won’t even mention what our high was today…don’t want to depress you.

Like you, I don’t measure fruit or veggies, but I do measure my granola. And dried cranberries, which I guess is a fruit – FRESH fruit, I don’t measure.;)

I SHOULD weigh and measure my food- but I have been lazy about it. I suppose if I did these last stubborn few pounds would come off! What is it that you do(if you don’t mind my asking) for work?

I almost always measure a food the first couple of times I have it, and then I use the eyeball method for that. Every now and then, I’ll do a “reality check” and weigh/measure everything I eat for a day. For *most* things, I have a tendency to underestimate how much I’m having, especially with meat. Especially red meat. 😉

She ate a 16 oz ribeye and then had three cupcakes in Nashville last Saturday?? LOL!! She also has a really bad attitude about the fact that I’m going to get to meet you in a couple of weeks!!

Tattle-tale Sharon! (She’s fibbing big time about the menu in Nashville, but I *am* envious that she’s getting to experience a Lori-John meet-up. The bad attitude comes from her mentioning said meet-up about every 10 minutes. :))

I realize just now that my original comment had an error. (Imagine!) I meant to say that I *over*-estimate portion sizes. I’ll think something looks like 3-4 ounces and find out during a reality check that it’s 2-2.5 ounces. Another good reason to weigh/measure more frequently than I do.

Hi Lori! Well, I’m using much smaller plates and bowls, and spoons too. Most people would be surprised at how much more food a portion looks like on the right plate! It’s sort of amazing.

Hopefully no snow for you guys today. It’s April! We want Spring.

A few years ago I measured everything for a long time and I still can pretty good estimate my portions. The only thing I should measure is pasta because I usually eat too much of that but for the rest I’m okay. I buy my meat at the butcher and if I find something too big I ask them to cut it for me which they do. Fruits and vegetables I never measure.

IM not a measurer or weigher—Im an eyeballer who is married to one who tends toward weighing (food and bod) and measuring (OH food and bod there too).

“I don’t know exactly what a medium berry is since most berries are the size of a Smart Car anymore.” LOL. love that. The strawberries are crazy huge lately!

  8. Helen

I don’t eat enough fruit to measure it but when I eat an apple, for instance, I just eat the apple and don’t worry about whether it’s small, medium, or large. ITA about the strawberries lately. I swear I cut up only 2 the other day and I had a full half cup of berries!

Little Helen posted on FB yesterday that she thought something was in the air. She literally woke up thinking it wss Saturday. Something was definitely funky!

I am like Cammy – measure it out at first & then once I have it, I am OK. If weight starts to creep up, I recheck things.

OK, I love dense & chewy & like a cookie! I am going for it that way on the pancake Lori – sounds amazing to me! 🙂

I have a scale and for a while I would measure absolutely everything so I would be able to track exact calories. I think once you’ve done that for a while you generally know what is a serving or how many calories something is, but it’s always good to go back and measure every once in a while anyway just to make sure you’re still on the right path.

I do still weigh and measure fairly frequently although not obsessively. And as for knowing what day of the week it is, I used to joke that after I retired, the only way I knew to get dressed and go to church on Sunday was that the newspaper was twice its normal size!!

In answer to your question, yes, we are hoping to hike at least once while in your area. Now that I’ve settled down to some preliminary planning of what we want to do in each place, I’ve realized our week in that region is going to fly by. But I do know I want to meet you in that North Country Coffee Shop, whereever it is! It may be your last favorite place to go, but I LOVE those coffee mugs – gotta have one!

I do measure food, but not by weight, I use tsp. tbsp. cups etc. That way I can get a better carb count.

The chicken with tomatoes looks really good.

  13. Lisa

I measure and weigh certain things. I’ll measure out serving sizes with measuring cups, and weigh certain things. But I never weigh fruits or veggies. I just don’t feel the need.

  14. Tami @Nutmeg Notebook

Your eats always look good Lori! I weigh and measure a lot things but I don’t get to carried away about the weight or size of fruit. I usuall only have 2 fruit servings a day. It’s starchy foods, fat and protein servings that I mostly weigh and measure.

    Enjoy your mom time!
