Cramming it in!

Not a lot of riding this weekend, but we sure got a lot done!  Saturday was rainy from the get-go, so I worked out at the gym and then John and I did a little shopping and went out for lunch.  We tried a place called Hatties, which is a local landmark.  They opened a satellite restaurant by the mall.  It definitely has southern influences as Hattie was from New Orleans.

This sign cracked me up:

I need to use the term thigh-fecta when I do 3 sets of barbell squats or something.

Fried chicken is the specialty, but we will have to save that for another day.  I had a marinated chicken breast sandwich with hush puppies.

I actually ended up just taking off the top bun and not eating it.  When you don’t eat a lot of bread, you really notice it and it would have overwhelmed the meat (for me).

John and I both found what we wanted at the mall – double score!  John got a new pair of shoes, I got a new pair of bike shorts and the elastic is falling out in bits and pieces on my old ones.  No need to have a wardrobe malfunction while on the roads.  😳

What else to do on a rainy day?  Make jam!  I made an apricot ginger jam.

I will post a jam making tutorial sometime this week.  It’s actually really easy to do.  This was tasty stuff, too.

Sunday morning was really the only time to get a ride in.  We went out for the usual bagel.

Hmmm… not the best lighting there.  We decided to head out for a longer ride after breakfast (since I was stuffed with carbs!) just in case the afternoon ended up being rainy.  We took a short path that we went on for the first time last week.  It is only about a mile, but it is the prettiest mile you will see.

It’s paved, too, which is really nice.

Lucky enough to spot this heron at the water’s edge.

This guy was getting a lot of attention and couldn’t care less!

The ride today felt really great.  Not sure what it was about it, but I’ll take it!

We ended up at about 18.5 miles. The only ride of the weekend, but it was a nice one.

Lots of chores in the early afternoon.  I did weeding and outdoor cleaning.

John did some painting.

100+ year old house = lots of maintenance.

Then there was more of this:

So, no more riding.  We did get a lot of things done, though.  I can’t believe the weekend is over already!

Looks like a really great weekend! The jam looks so tasty…what a nice combination of tastes that must be.

Yay to finding what you needed at the mall, to getting a great ride in, and getting things done around the house.

Your house is so pretty…the porch is just lovely.

How odd that they would serve a sandwich with more bread as a side dish! We don’t even do that here in the South! LOL I would’ve done what you did and just had the chicken with the hushpuppies.

I tried to ride today but the weather and the crowds got to me after 10 miles. Oh well, it was something at least. 🙂

Haha – that was our choice on the side dish. John and I split an order of hushpuppies. 1 order had 6 of them!

    Cute shirt! 😉

Even with the rain, looks like a nice weekend. Hopefully it will clear out so you can do your 44 on your birthday!

Again I love your house so much.

Looks like you had a great weekend, maybe the weather wasn’t that great but it didn’t stop you from having a good time.

Can you believe that yesterday it was as cold here in Holland as on Christmas day last year? Unbelievable!

Rain, rain go away! I’m ready for summer and some full on sunshine and warmth. Although as I mentioned on FB it is nice to sort of be forced to stay home and get some other stuff done.

Thigh fecta when we do legs in the gym – love it!!! 🙂

I just love your home – so cute! Yes, I bet a lot of work but it is not like we have here where I am…

OK, love your riding shirt! 🙂

Great looking weekend over there! What a beautiful bike path – I’d be the type of person to just bike back and forth and back and forth along that mile. Would make a nice walking path too.

We’ve been getting the rain here too! I managed to get an hours walk in today before it came 🙂
I can’t wait to try making that jam.
