Tour de France by women

The heat and humidity wave is gone and cookie cutter low 80s and sun all week.  We could use more rain, but at least the humidity took a hike.  I woke up for a nice little bike ride this morning before breakfast.  I hit the paths and neighborhoods.  I actually had to stop here and dislodge a twig from my chain. This is the feeder canal.  Nice and shady part of the ride, but the terrain is cinder and stone, which can make you fishtail a bit.

It’s early! Yay!

Cycling is the one time I smile pre-coffee  😀

8.5 miles and I was ready for some breakfast.  I had made crepes for the first time over the weekend, which was surprisingly easy (and tasty). Leftovers of that for breakfast.

Tucked inside was a new find!

There are 2 new flavors of Laughing Cow.  This cinnamon one and a strawberry one!  I would have bought both, but I also had to get some plain as well for savory  – and these aren’t cheap.

Tour watching today.  Did you know that there are actually some women doing the same route of the Tour de France as the men are?  There are 6 amateurs going out 1 day ahead of the men and riding it on their own.  They aren’t racing it, but riding the same exact route.  With only 6, this is a monumental feat they are trying to do.  The team is called  Reve team. You can read more of their story  from the blog of one of the riders here.  Pretty amazing stuff if you ask me.  They need lots more attention – so spread the word.  Mountains (and cycling) are not just for men!

Go, ladies, go!!  Makes me want to ride even more, although I do *not* want to do those mountain stages.  I wonder how I would do?

Instead of dwelling on that, I just had a morning protein drink snack.  Usually I have this before my workout, but I just went out riding this morning without it and got hungry half way to lunch.

Then there was lunch!  I made up some balsamic tomato topping to have this week and put it on grilled chicken.  Good stuff.

Work was spotty today and that meant stretching out my work day.  That is tiring.  If I was a little more efficient, I would get more things done in the down time, but I am on a schedule probably 90% of the time and when it gets out of whack, I am never as productive.  You think I would be used to that by now.

More work came just in time for lattes.

I had unpictured dried pineapple here as well.

One of John’s poker buddies stopped by not long before dinner, so that got put on hold while they worked on his computer.  I was starving – so I grabbed a bar to eat to tide me over.

So, we had a much later dinner than we normally do.  Ask my family about how much I like my meal time disrupted LOL!

John set to grilling the salmon while I cooked my broccoli.

This was cooked with maple syrup and a little Maple Magic seasoning (local company).

It came out quite good.  I am getting more and more used to eating the salmon.

I have to do more work tonight, but not much.  Looking forward to some lifting tomorrow morning.  Hope all of your Mondays were productive!

Thanks for the info on the women cyclists! I’d not heard of them before.

I’ve seen the LC cinnamon before, but the Pretzel Luna is one I haven’t seen. Tasty?

Yeah – the Luna is tasty. One of those sweet/salty combos that make me keep eating the bars even though I try to stay away from them!

I’m enjoying the TWO days of decent weather before the crazy-high temps return. It’s such a welcome relief!

I think you’d do great on mountains. You’d just train and do fine. None of those bikers got where they are today without hard work – and cycling is something you love so much. Maybe an interesting challenge sometime for you and John??

Haha – an interesting challenge? First off getting to France LOL! We do enough hills and mountains around here and I gripe about them. It’s rare to have a flat ride in these parts, but they are not the Alps.

That is a particularly pretty picture of you! The early morning riding must agree with you.

I am determined to make that balsamic tomato stuff. Have had the tomatoes sitting on the stove for weeks. Now I have some chicken and brocolli–no excuse not to make it!

Mmm mmm. Those new laughing cow flavors sound delish!

Thanks Debby – that is a preshower early morning photo LOL! I do think cool morning air agrees with me – way better than hot and humid!

If you do go to France to ride we should definitely meet somehow. France isn’t to far away from my little country.

I didn’t know about the girls riding it too and I think it’s awesome. I am not sure if it still exists but there used to be an official TdF for women. What I remember is that it was shorter than the men’s route and a Dutch cyclist Leontien van Moorsel has won it twice in 1992 and 1993. She had overcome anorexia before she won the feminin tour twice. These days she helps other peoples and organizes a couple of “Leontien’s ladies rides” in Holland. Think you would like to participate in one of those rides.

Love those first couple pics of you & your ride! 🙂 I have had that Luna bar – it was a bit salty for me. I like the vanilla almond one but have had trouble fining it at Sprouts now so have to look elsewhere. Crepes look delish!

I love to see what you eat and am trying to change my eating habits. I like your healthy meals. I wanted to ask you, are your lunch and dinner plates a normal size or a salad plate? Thanks

    1. Lori Post author

Well, they aren’t really salad plates. They are 8 inch plates – so smaller than a large dinner plate. It makes portion sizes look bigger and I am not tempted to overfill this size plate.

Your crepes look amazing!! My Dad at one time of his life wanted to own a restaurant, so he went back to school for restaurant managmenet, and had to take a cooking class – he learned how to make crepes – and we probably had crepes seven days in a row until we said “no more!”

I’ll have to try to make them – its been years!

Hey Lori, Loved hearing about the TDF women. One of my birthday presents was a Cycliste Femme bike shirt! I was planning to reply last night, but got sidetracked linking to the Chicken w Basalmic Tomato recipe. That looks great and may make an appearance on a dinnertable in my neighborhood very soon.

Yummmm Your supper looks so good. I think I need to spend the money to buy some good quality salmon. I always go for the cheap stuff. But it does make a difference.
