Random thoughts of Monday

Monday already!  This is just a mish mash of things going through my mind today because it was that kind of day!

I have been informed that there has been a lack of Pixie love on the blog lately, so I will remedy this.

Here is Pixie guarding the house.  A customer stopped by for John’s business this morning and Pixie was all up in arms about them parking in her bird viewing spot.

Breakfast was a big change up for me today.  I made a hash with some local breakfast sausage and a potato, topped with an over medium egg.

Probably should have filed this under the “don’t get too close” category of food photography, but it was really good!

We turned on the air conditioning today and Pixie decided it was cold weather and she needed a lap.

She is quite content here after kneading my leg for about 10 minutes getting it just right.  One of those times when I am really glad she doesn’t have claws.

With the heat and all the brushing of Pixie, I have been entertaining picking up a copy of this book.

I guess there really is a book for everything.

Lunch today was also probably in the “don’t get too close” category, but really delicious!

Greek yogurt with apple topping and a few toasted pecans.

I read an interesting nugget today on reported calories.

The survey results from 2009-2010 for calories consumed per day for adults over the age of 20:

  •  Men          2512
  • Women     1778

This is what is self reported to have been eaten on a daily basis.

From Marion Nestle – Note: These are reported figures, and remain well below the 3000 calories a day for men and 2400 for women observed in studies that actually measure calorie balance.

That’s almost a 600 calorie difference for both men and women  between what they say they eat and what they are measured to actually eat. Interesting, no?

I do know the calories in my snack.

110 for the latte and about 80 for the pineapple.

Here is another shot of Pixie doing what she does best:

I would say she is a happy and relaxed cat.

John did his duty of cooking the salmon tonight.  I guess Mondays are officially fish night around here as we shop on Sunday and get some.  He glazed it with maple syrup.  The real stuff.

Thanks John!

I am officially addicted to my Kindle.  My Kimble Kindle, as it were.  I have a ton of free books on there, plus I am trialing Amazon Prime and you get a book per month free – so I am reading the 2nd book in the Hunger Games.  I have had that book one day and I am almost a third of the way through it!  I have the hard copy of Game of Thrones from the library out and am having a tough time getting through that one.  I read a preview of it and thought it was fairly good, but not liking it as much as I did.  I might toss that back to the library.  Maybe I would like it better if it was on my Kindle?  😉

Last random thing of the day.  My nightly snack!

Normally I don’t get clementines at this time of year, but they had a shipment on sale, so we took a chance.  Today I am doing my 90/10 eating.  I had an indulgent weekend – or at least Saturday was, so back to business again 😀

I’d say that’s about right. I do my best tracking my calories but I’m sure I’m not exact. One reason why I try to have a “buffer”!

How nice to see some photos of Pixie. She is a special kitty and looks to be so mellow. Keep us posted on the “crafting with cat hair.” …if you investigate further, that is!!

I am liking the look of your breakfast…I bet it was tasty.

Lots of Pixie! She is so lovely!

Nice breakfast, looks like my breakfasts for the past two weeks. Yes, the e-reader is so addictive! I loved Hunger Games, I flew through the trilogy on the first half of our anniversary cruise. The movie was a really good rendition, too. Though the Gale casting threw me off a bit.

Fun Pixie pics today. Your lunch looks fantastic. Not such an eggs and hash person myself. But potatoes for bfast? YES!

And those stats about calorie counting? I totally believe them. But if you consistently count calories, even if you are off, you know a consistency in what you need to eat to maintain your weight. And then you eat less to lose weight. Haha. I should write a book.

Pixie is such a cool cat!

I know that here in Holland they advice woman to eat about 2000 calories a day but that’s for the ones that have a healthy weight. Don’t know about the men.

I’ve read both books as you know. I liked the Hunger Games a lot, it’s easy to read. About Games of Thrones, I didn’t know if I would like it but as you know I’m hooked. I agree that there are a lot of characters in it. I often go to the back of the book where all the characters are explained but after a while you know the main characters.

I really am trying with Game of Thrones. I think I need to read it when I have a rainy weekend and can sit there to keep track of the characters.

    I got an ereader…back in the 90s
one of the first and Ive never turned back.
I LOVE BOOKS AND PAPER ETC—but I also adore not owning so many books Ill never reread.

I’ve been debating a Kindle for a while now. Still haven’t decided as I do love to hold a book…

Your breakfast is my kind of breakfast! Love that combination.

I recently read (and for the life of me I can’t find the link) that one of the issues of calorie counting is that it really isn’t an exact science. Even though the information is provided on packaging, etc. it really can vary especially when dependent on weight instead of pieces for example. Then there are also the 1 bite/licks/tastes that don’t even get account for. The article said most people underestimate the caloric intake by a couple hundred calories a day. I’ve always wanted someone to follow me around for a few days and count everything for me to see if I’m doing what I think I am 🙂

I love to hold books as well, but I *love* the Kindle. You should get one. I bet you will like it!

I LOVE roasting salmon with a good glaze on top! My go-to is a miso soysauce mixture I make into a paste. So easy and mess-free 🙂

I think anything topped with an egg is delicious!

P.S. I awarded you with the Versatile Blogger Award on my blog. You don’t have to fill it out if you don’t want to make a post about it but I just wanted to let you know about it haha 🙂

I did not want to bother you about Pixie pics so glad someone else did! 🙂 I LOVE HER PICS! So want to sleep like her in that last pic!!!

On calories, well known fact that Americans overestimate how many calories burned but UNDERESTIMATE how many calories consumed! 🙂

Kimble Kindle – cracked me up!

  11. Vilma

Yeah, “Pixie” dusted blog…I love all her photos. You do her such justice with your great photos. Love the salmon dinner..I’m sure it was delicious.

    Love your kitty!

I thought it was funny when you said you turned on your air conditioning. I am pretty sure we had ours on, occasionally, during the winter. (It was a very warm winter!) That’s Texas for you. It’s hot!!!

  13. Leah

I admire how you get right back on plan after a higher cal weekend. Of course, after that ride I feel like you earned those treats…

  14. Biz

My Mom has a kindle (love the Kimble Kindle!) and she can borrow library books right from her local library to her kindle – you may want to check that out.

I wish I liked salmon! It looks so good, but too fishy for me.

  15. Joanne

Ted used to LOVE hash! I was never a fan of it when I ate meat.

My kindle is one of the original. I like it but feel so outdated when I
bring it out “to the public”. 😉
*Just got through my latest kindle book “A Life Without Limits” by Chrissie Wellinton. GREAT book!

I luxuariated in those 3 Pixie pics. She has a remarkably long and fluffy fur coat. I was also reminded of Pixie when I was on a walk and saw a cat stting on a window sill. I waved of course.

Let’s just say that I’m not going to disclose how many books there really are on my Kindle. I was so thrilled when I got an Amazon gift card in email today. 🙂 I love Hunger Games and the Game of Thrones…
