August Goals

Welcome to August!  We started off with a bagel, since it is Wednesday after all.  I had gotten new shoes for my bike that arrived yesterday, so I put them on last night without too much trouble, although I did ruin a tube.

I got Gatorskins and 28 mm width tires.  They definitely felt better to me than the 25 mm tires.  I was Speedy Magee to breakfast. Even John noted that.  And that was before coffee.

Anyway, I had my bagel and coffee and was quite content.

I like our Wednesday mornings.  It’s a nice midweek break.  Then it was steady work all day. Busy!

Lunch came pretty fast.  I had some plain Greek yogurt with blueberry sauce and some new Kashi cereal called Simply Maize.

It actually reminds me of Sugar Smacks, to tell the truth.  Not sure I would get them again.

On to the goals this month!

1.  Bike 400 miles this month.  I don’t necessarily like to set mileage goals because it can be really weather dependent, but I want to see what I can do here.  It shouldn’t be too hard.  I got 12 miles in already today, so that’s a start  😀

2.  A week with no ‘land meat’.  John doesn’t eat a lot of meat, so he is going to do this with me.  We will eat seafood and fish, but no beef, pork, turkey or chicken (or pheasant 🙂 ).

3. Paint the front porch floor.  This is a project I have been working on since we decided to have the driveway done by others.  Hmmm… insert picture of driveway here?  Okay, I won’t.  Anyway, the previous owners of this house painted over layers and layers of paint, which looks like crap and, of course, is peeling up.  So – I have been using a heat gun to scrape those layers away.  I have been somewhat lax about doing this and I have to set a time goal to finish.  August 31st.  So when I am scraping and painting at midnight on August 30th, I can blame the blog!

4. Get fully back to 90/10 eating instead of living in the 10%.  ‘Nuff said.

5. Treat my hubby to a great birthday!!

Those should keep me in line this month 😀

I had a nice iced latte for a snack with a piece of dried pineapple.  Pixie was just finishing a yawn here, although it looks like she was yelling at the latte.

I guess my lattes bore her.

With work being so busy, the day went fast, but it sure makes my brain tired! Dinner was quick tonight.

Clams strips with broccoli.  And because I get this question each time I have these, this is what the package looks like.

They come in preportioned packs in the bag. Each serving has 270 calories, 17 grams of protein and 4 grams of fiber! We just bake them in the toaster oven for about 15 minutes.

I also made up a small batch of jam tonight.  Strawberry.  These are super hot here and a little foamy this time.

The lucky person I am doing the jam exchange with gets a strawberry and an apricot ginger jam!

Storms look like they are on their way in shortly, so better get this posted!

Do you have any goals for the month?

Does the dried pineapple you buy have added sugar? I’m having the hardest time finding dried fruit without sugar. I bought raisins today because that’s about all I could find. I may have to just buy dehydrator and make my own!

It’s not no sugar, but it is low sugar. Try nuts.com – they have a lot of dried fruit with no sugar.

I got apricots when they were on sale a couple months ago I guess when they were in season. So, I made jam and added some chopped crystallized ginger to it.

“Land meat” – that’s a new one to me. 🙂

Sweet speedy tires – you’ll have no trouble hitting your 400 mile goal with them! My only goals for August are to survive my long runs in the heat…

I bet John likes goal number 5 best 🙂 I like your goals for the month.

I have only one goal and that’s not to skip workouts and hey it’s August 2 here and I failed already this morning when I skipped my run. Hello August 🙂

    It’s funny
I think of myself as a HUGE CARNIVORE—yet after reading this I realize I do very little landmeat as well.

    IM IN.

I have not had a a bagel in the longest time & every one of your bagel posts make me want one! 🙂 I like your goals – pretty darn good! Heck, wish we could live n the 10% & not gain! 😉

I got an offer from Gardein & have been trying some of their vegetarian products so I am doing that right now but not consistent – just testing them out….

I have some coupons from Gardein, but I don’t eat meat analogues anymore. Plus I don’t think I have ever seen that brand in my stores.

Love your goals for August! You just reminded me that I need to add one more to my list – clean my desk. It’s in our basement, and just becomes a catch all, so while the rest of the house is put together, my desk is a complete eye sore!

Apricot ginger jam??? Oh Lori, can you post that recipe, it sounds fantastic!!!!!!! I’m excited for the jam exchange. Pixie looks like she’s snarling at your latte. I love that her “perch” is right by the bird feeder. Lucky girl!!! Love the expression”land meat”. Have a wonderful Thursday!!!!

I got new Gatorskin tires about a month ago. I’ve had NOTHING BUT ISSUES ever since! I rarely had a flat tire with my old tires that came with the bike. Maybe I’m pinching the tubes but I’ve had about 6 flats since. 🙁

I love it when you have clam strips. They used to be a favourite of mine.

    Great goals for August!

Mine is to have as much fun as I can before school starts! Whhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Ooooweee. That bagel looks delish. I love how all of your pictures are super extra large. Iti’s the perfect picture-size for food porn indulgence.

    mmm….strawberry jam.

August goals…hhhmmm…maybe I should set some. First thing that came to mind was to eat only at mealtimes, limit snacking..eat when hungry and stop when full. We have two out-of-town trips planned before school starts and food will be out of my control for a lot of that time. You’ve got me thinking here…
