Frosty mornings

Cold start to the day.  Cold!!!  I had wanted to bike to breakfast, but the temp said 28 degrees.  No biking at that temp, thank you very much.

We even had to scrape the windshield.  Boo!!!

We do have a 1 car garage, but it is really awkward to get in and out of, so we rarely use it unless a big snow is coming.

I decided against a bagel today and had a blueberry scone instead!

It’s a little misshapen, but very tasty.  They bake them on site.  Looks like John was wasting some coffee there, too.  For shame!

I worked for a while this morning and then did some mother/daughter time.  Normally we get together in the evening, but I wanted to give her a few plants for the garden, so we got together during the day so I could get them in the ground on a sunny day (albeit cold).  Now her little flower garden is tidied up for winter.

That’s one reason I like being an independent contractor with work.  I can flex my hours like this to take advantage of the sunny day today.  I am okay with having to work at night to be able to do stuff like this.

Then we headed out to lunch.  Nothing like eating out 2 meals in a day 😯  East End Eatery and I had a wheat pizza wrap.

Yum!  It was nice to spend an afternoon with my mom, although I think she mentioned that she preferred our usual going out for coffee rather than digging in the garden…

After working the rest of the afternoon, I wasn’t all that hungry for dinner.  I started to munch on potato chips and was thinking that I just felt like having an apple with almond butter for dinner.  John mentioned that I was an adult and could do so – so I did!

Sometimes  feel like I should make myself eat a complete meal, but I was listening to what I wanted for dinner and this really satisfied me.

Back to work, but John made me one of these for the evening since I didn’t have one earlier:

Today’s pink item? The sponge thing for cleaning the inside of the car windshield:

We needed it to wipe condensation after scraping the car this morning.

Wow, your food today looks incredible! Especially that scone! 28F is pretty chilly too, I’m in Northern Alberta and we haven’t seen much of that temperature yet! Brrrrr!

I forgot about those frosty windshields, brrrr! I would choose a scone too, yummy goodness. How nice that you can choose to take some daytime hours for fun with your mom. Should I tell you that its still in the 80’s here this week? Strange weather we are having.

That scone thingy looked SO yum, and bummer on the frost on the windshield. My kids are having fun eating the snow on our deck, so I sympathize with cold weather coming when we wish it were still warmer!

As for eating things you feel like, as opposed to strictly balanced, I SO enjoy doing this, too! I simply must make myself remember that I don’t have to balance meals if I’m not hungry for it. Sometimes I do that and end up with a psychological struggle against wanting to eat extra to ‘complete’ the meal, even when I am very physiologically satisfied with what I have. It’s pure mental twitchery, I know, but it creeps in there nonetheless 🙂

Look at you, living large with a scone instead of a bagel (looks delicious!) and an apple/nut butter for dinner! It’s pretty freeing to change things up once in a while, and you picked some pretty tasty ways to do so.

When we get frost here (not often) we usually just start the car and let the heater/defroster warm up the windshield. We don’t even own a scraper. Oh – when my son traveled back east for the first time last winter and got in his car rental, he thought the previous renter had left stuff behind. Turns out it was a “snow kit” that the car rental places supply in each car. Who knew???

Ick… scraping the windshield…ALREADY!! I can hear the wind whistling outside so it’s going to be a chilly one today. I have to say I’m not really too upset about it. After this HOT summer, I’m actually ready for the colder temps. Remind me of this in January. 😉

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! It was 93 at 6pm last night & 77 at 4am this morn – ready for some predicted cooler weather this weekend. We have had too long a stretch of this hot weather!!! Although I am not good with super cold weather anymore! 😉

Love the dish for you apple & almond butter!

Already frost on the car? We have a garage too but R. stole it for his machines. We also have a carport which he uses for his car. But as soon as frost is predicted we both use it so neither of us has to scrape.

Today the weather here is good and almost Spring temperatures. It would be nice to be able to take a 2 hour break for a walk with Bella or something but unfortunately that’s not possible here at the office. Glad you were able to spend some time with your Mom during the day.

There was a light frost one of the nights I was in the mountains, and my scraper was at home in the storage room. Fortunately it was light enough that newspaper took it off. 🙂

I have light suppers sometimes, too, especially in summertime. It can be refreshing! Except on the days when I’m having a light supper because I front-loaded too many calories in the daytime and I really do want more supper. 🙂

Oh no…scraping the windshield already. It’s coming I guess. Those NY winters. Get ready. Get your bike on the trainer and prepare yourself.

The pizza wrap looks super. I’ve been such a pizza hound lately. Do you ever go through those craving times when you just can’t get enough of something for weeks then all of a sudden it’s like …”pizza? …uh…no. can’t do one more slice”. 🙂

Thanks for helping me with the garden, Lori. I really do appreciate your help. My muscles are feeling it today from the bending and kneeling. Guess I need more of that! Lunch was fun, too!

I LOL at “John wasting coffee”. Lori, you are hilarious. This year is FLYING by…can’t believe its frosty windsheild time again already. Yay for spending time with your Mom too! Happy Thursday!!!

When I am on my own for dinner, I most always have my largest meal and lunch and the something simple for supper. I’m hoping by the time Bill retires, he’ll have come around to that way of thinking as well. Right now he’s far too traditional to think in those terms. My MIL would be horrified is she thought we weren’t having a meat and three every single night. LOL!
