Friday happenings

Yay – the weekend!!  It’s starting to get the holiday feel, too, know what I mean?  That funny mix of fall decorations and Christmas ones. Last night we were at the mall after taking John out for his football dinner (booooo…..) and the decorations were up.  Plus the usual game stores that open this time of year.  We were on the look out for a new board game for the get togethers this year.   This store has all kinds of games!  And just about every kind of Monopoly there is.

If you think there is not a Monopoly for you, then choose this one!

After getting some suggestions on FB, we ended up getting Telestrations:

Should be fun.  I definitely want to check this store out before it closes at the end of the year when everything is discounted. I wanted to get Ticket to Ride, but the game was $50!!  😯  That’s a lot of money for a board game.  Why are board games so expensive??

Anyway, I think I forgot to show you all my chair. Remember my $3 garage sale chair?  A good scrubbing and a $5 can of spray paint later and it is all purty in my house!  The color is called Purple Fury, but it doesn’t seem all that furious to me.

John actually decorated this chair.  My beloved Mr. Niblet is still out.  If I can’t eat the candy corn anymore, at least I can still keep Mr. Niblet out.

Also in the holiday spirit, we found this at the grocery store:

You all know how I loves the nog.  It is interesting. It smells just like eggnog and it tastes like it as well, only not sweet – and fizzy.  Like John said “Who watered down my eggnog?”

Update on Billy the stray.  He is loving life in the shop.

Nomf! I like food!

He actually is a very funny cat and makes us laugh.  He loves attention and doesn’t seem all that interested in going back outside.  I have contacted the rescue group that originally was going to help  with Boo and their foster homes are full right now. So, we are going to foster Billy while they put up his picture to adopt out.  Plus he will be going to adoption clinics when they have them.  We need to get him neutered as well. Here’s hoping he gets a forever home soon.  (Any local people can feel free to email me about him)

And lest we forget the real star of the house (and blog) – Pixie wants to show you she does wake up from time to time.

I can’t believe she is 5 years old now!

Looks like the bikes are going to be coming inside. I keep looking at the extended forecast for any temps in the 50s and nada for the next 10 days.  I’m just fighting the inevitable.

Have a great weekend!

PIXIE LOVE!!! She is so cute & love that Billy is doing well too – so sweet of you & john! Hope you can find a good home!

That chair looks amazing Lori – I am so bad at any of that kind of stuff! Love the John decorations! 🙂

Looking forward to hearing about your game. I am not really a board game person – maybe overload from when I was a kid! 😉

Rain expected here this weekend & not sure about my Sunday run yet// although I am not feeling that good so I might rest in anyway….

LOVE the chair! And the decorations! 🙂 Oh and the egg nog – hmm, looks interesting. Never seen anything like that here – I do like the creaminess of egg nog so I’m not sure it would be a good substitute for me – I love Holly Nog or Egg Nog pudding. Or icecream, but I can’t ever find any of that anymore (probably a good thing!). That sketching game is great – didn’t know it was a “real” game – we make our own of it and it’s fun. Just make little booklets out of scrap paper and put topics on the front and go with them…it can be pretty hilarious. More fun if you can’t draw too! 😉
    Have a great weekend!

    LOL on the watered-down eggnog!

Pixie is so fluffy! Pretty kitty – gotta love the clean fur of an indoor cat. I guess she isn’t aware of the interloper in the shop? Glad Billy is sticking around and hope he finds a permanent home soon.

Yes, she if fluffy. So much hair! It’s useless owning anything black around here.

She is mostly unaware of the cat in the shop except for when I come in after petting him and she can smell it. She freaks out less now because there aren’t any cats in the driveway anymore.

I love the kitty photos. Pixie and Billy are both lucky to have found you Lori! I LOVE board games too, and I agree, they’re ridiculously expensive. I’ve bought a couple in thrift stores, and so far so good, all pieces/instructions etc are in the box. Have a WONDERFUL weekend!!

I’ve never seen so many monopoly’s, Wowza! I love a good board game, too, but you’re right that they tend to be expensive. Fortunately they also last for years.

Big high five on the purple chair, I love how subtle and still bold it ended up being. It’s not a boring choice, but not too loud, either.

I really like the color of the chair. It matches some of the purple colors we have in our area rug and some art pieces.

Our high school had a local version made: New London-opoly and sold it to raise funds for last year’s graduating class alcohol and drug free all night party. They sold like gangbusters and the school said it was the most money made ever for one of those parties!

My friend who does triathlons said to me yesterday that the biker in her is sad about the weather but the runner is rejoicing lol!

I didn’t know there are so many Monopolies, even an Elvis Monopoly! You Americans have everything. And I love the color of the rocking chair.-

Pixie looks fantastic and very alert in the picture. We rearely see her on her feet, she’s almost always laying down or taking a nap…

You’re a real cat-savubg saint, Billy must be in love you! 🙂

Purple chair is purple. And awesome! I wish we got Polar fizzy down here, I’ll have to see if my sister can get a bottle of Eggnog flavor, I would have grabbed it.

I’m the only one in my circle of family and friends that likes to play games…….I love monopoly and trivial pursuit played with partners….

Love that purple chair! My favorite color in all its tones and shades! Hugs! deb

Pixie definitely looks like she’s the boss 🙂 Billy looks like he’s doing better. So awesome of you guys to help him.
Don’t think I’ll try that egg nog.

New subscriber here 🙂 Got ya on bloglovin! Love this post. I’ve not gone back and acquainted with your story yet but I love this chair! I’m a creative crafty person myself. Isn’t it awesome when we find new projects from yard sales or thrift stores?

I agree on board games, they are soo expensive! I tend to try to find them in thrift stores. Some of them will have them taped up and you know they have the pieces, if not you can open and check. I got back all the old school ones I loved to play as a kid for like $1 each at thrift stores and only one was missing pieces, just the Sorry! game and we found colorful things to put in for the pieces so it wasn’t a big deal. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by Sara! I love thrifting and garage sale-ing, but I often don’t find what I need. I scored that day with a bench and this chair.

  12. Tami @Nutmeg Notebook

Lori your chair turned out beautiful and John’s decorations are great! Pixie is so pretty and photogenic. Hope a home for Billy can be found soon. I wonder what his story is.

I had no idea there were so many different versions of Monopoly. We played it all the time as kids and sometimes our games would go on for days! Great times.

Never heard of the game you bought – I am so not good at board games.

    Hi Lori,

I always enjoy your blog – it’s part of my evening ritual. Much better than reading the news (which is usually negative or sad).

I am hoping you can help – I am interested in bringing my bike indoors for the winter. I have had to give up running – no cartalige left in my knee joints – and would love to have access to my bike during the cold months (I’m in Wyoming so there are lots of cold months). Could you share your thoughts about the kind of stand that works best and where I might get one? Thanks,

    Daria

  14. Chris @ Buff Daddio

Agree about the prices of board games these days! We always end up getting the kids the cheap-ass versions of original games, and trying to convince them they’re just as good – “Daddy I wanted Guess Who, why did you get me this ‘Hey Whose Face Do You Think Is On My Card?’ game”. Hope you enjoyed your game anyway!

Now that I see Pixie standing, it seems I haven’t seen many pics of her in standing position LOL.

I loved playing board games when I was young, Monopoly was one of my favorites. I didn’t know there were so many versions of it. These days I don’t play board games anymore because nobody is interested in playing them.
