No running and book update

Happy Tuesday!  I am behind on stuff. Busy yesterday and behind on exercise, guitar practicing, blogging, reading blogs – all that stuff. Gah!

I did start off the day with 15 minutes on the bike trainer before breakfast.  It is easy having that ready to go in the room right off our bedroom. No excuses.  My goal is 45 minutes on the trainer today.

John and I can still bike together, but it just isn’t the same.

Then it was time to eat!

Protein pancakes!

Anyway, as I alluded to on the Thanksgiving post, I am back off the running wagon again.  I was out one day and I just realized I really don’t enjoy running all that much.  I mentioned to John one day a week or so ago that I didn’t want to go out and run and his reply was “Don’t run, just go for a walk”. So I did and I haven’t run since.  I do have to say that my back and leg feel better for not running.

Of course, this totally goes against my desire to do the duathlons next year.  I just cannot seem to make up my mind about it. What is wrong with me? If I say I am going to pick up running again in the spring, someone please slap me, okay? Just not too hard.

Work sped along this morning and I was so productive.  Hooray for productive days!  Lunch break included some Fage and apple topping.

Looks like dessert, but it’s not! I used a Macoun apple for this one, but I defnitely prefer a firmer, more tart apple – a la granny smith.  However, John always picks out the apples when we shop and he doesn’t like the grannies 😀

Update on another book I finished. I actually  finished this early last month, but forgot to write about it.  It’s called Ready Player One by Ernest Cline.  If any of you grew up in the 80s and played video games – this is the book for you!  It really had a lot of nostalgia for the 80s in it, so I was all over that.

(my link)

It’s set in the future about 30 years  from now, and most people spend time in a virtual world instead of reality (like now!). The creator of the virtual world dies and he decides to leave his vast fortune to anyone who can solve the puzzles he puts in the virtual world. So, it is the story of the gamers trying to figure those 80s themed puzzles out with some evil guys thrown in there.  Very entertaining and a good study on how we project ourselves online versus in real life.  It’s a fast read and I highly recommend it.

John made me a latte today.  The day went by really fast!  I paired the latte with my yummy dried pineapple.

Look at lazy Pixie on my ottoman. If she isn’t on me, she is near me.  😀

Raise your hands if you are eating leftovers still!  Dinner was leftovers, but not Thanksgiving – more of the soup variety.  The last of the corn and crab chowder.

That’s some creepy lighting.  I need to get my makeshift lightbox out from wherever it is.  I’m thinking the basement?  😯

I snuck in some more trainer riding and guitar practicing.  Free night tonight!  Woo Hoo!  I’ve got 200 calories to spend on my snack tonight, which just might be all clementines

No leftovers for us. They’re all out in Seattle at my daughter’s house! I did buy a turkey for 88 cents a pound so we can have a turkey dinner AND leftovers sometime this fall. Need to get back to my fighting weight before I do that, though.

The bike trainer is so hard. I don’t know why because we have a 50 inch TV and I can watch my TV shows while I do the trainer…but it’s just so awful. I’d rather go to spin class in the winter.

The trainer is just boring to me. Even if I am watching TV or reading, it is still boring. I do better to get on an off for 15 minutes at a time spread out.

LOL, I try really hard to have 200 calories left at the end of the day for a snack. That’s why most of my dinners are just meat and veggies.

I finished my leftovers yesterday, and I have some yummy smelling cuban pork in the crockpot right now. Oh, but I have a LOT of cranberry sauce left over. I was going to ask you if it freezes well?

I don’t know if freezing would affect the pectin. You could try freezing a couple tablespoons and then thawing them before doing a whole batch. I never have enough left over to freeze 😀

I think some things SOUND appealing, like a duathlon (or a half marathon, hah!) until you actually have to put in the training…then, you really can tell if you actually like the sport enough to keep doing it. I know you don’t seem to like bike races, but maybe entering a small one might help you make peace with the duathlon thoughts?

I might do some bike races, but I really need a better bike to do that. Of course, a new bike store opened up downtown – so I can buy a nice road bike there 😀

Sweety if you don’t like running, then don’t. You love biking. My personal opinion is that if you put effort and time into it, you have to like what you’re doing. Just keep biking, it’s what you love.

I like running, I even liked training for a half marathon but come race day nerves ruin it all for me (and hot weather) so I might train for a half next Spring/Summer but it could be I won’t race it.

I train at home and I have all the time in the world I still manage to skip training once in a while! 🙂

I read Ready Player One several weeks ago. It was nice to reminiscence about the movies (I liked War Games!), but the fashions were horrible back then.

Pixie looks like a Sphinx in the picture. 🙂

Lori, if running is not your thing, plenty of other stuff you can do! 🙂 Plus if your bod does not like ti, better to be healthy than injured for sure!!!

Glad you got some time in for other stuff – it is crazy this time of year!!!

Love Pixie!!! I forgot to say that on the last post when she was under the Xmas tree!!! How is Billy doing?

Billy is doing good. He is a friendly little kitty. He goes on Friday for neutering and will be then put up for adoption.

We are opposites when it comes to running, but of course you knew that 😉

My friend at work who bikes decided not to even put her bike on the trainer this year. She said she just can’t stand it and will try to do other things to keep her legs strong over the winter. I sort of feel that way about the treadmill when I first transition to it. Very hard to want to get on it. Of course, right now, I don’t feel that way – just happy to run wherever it is.

When you exercise on the trainer, do you have to make various adjustments to make it easier/harder (like simulating hills??) or is it just one steady pace?

I think you should buy one of those biking DVDs so you can “bike” down a path inside. 🙂

The trainer has resistance settings on it, so I can change it, but not while riding. Or I can just pedal faster to work harder. Switching gears can changed the pedal speed. I also can hook up my computer so that I can see how fast I am pedaling and do an interval workout that way if I want. It’s not quite the same as doing a hill ride, though.

Okay…no running for you, Missy!! 😀 You have to do what you enjoy, but you know that. 🙂

Your soup looks so yummy! Well, and I have red beans and rice cooking, so my house smells good while I’m reading your blog. LOL 😛

I’ve been enjoying listening to old episodes of Wait!Wait! (NPR) while exercising. The time and what I’m doing just go away. (Of course, the folks at the gym and in my neighborhood think I’ve lost it because I’m laughing so much. 🙂 )

No leftovers here! The advantage to going out for Thanksgiving! 🙂

Your latte photobombed the picture of Pixie! 🙂 Love the leaf shaped bowl. And I say hats off to doing workouts that you WANT to do, if it’s not enjoyable, there are other options. Have a great day Lori.
