Icicles

Is it seriously only Tuesday?  Both John and I had somewhat frustrating days with work today.

At least I didn’t have to worry about forgetting to plug the crockpot in for breakfast.  I just feasted on more of the oats I cooked up.  I normally do not cook extra breakfasts of anything I make for whatever reason. I guess I don’t really know why I don’t do that.  I think maybe because I want variety instead of eating  4 day’s worth of the same breakfast.   I won’t bother posting a picture of my oats since you saw them yesterday.  😀

Isn’t this a pretty picture?  I don’t necessarily like the cold, but it does create some pretty images.

These are hanging from my neighbor’s house and this was taken through my kitchen window.

I was fairly grumpy at lunch time with work annoyances, but I wouldn’t let myself snack eat.  I had some greek yogurt with apple topping for lunch.  I got more yogurts for lunch, which I am now questioning because of the cold weather.  There is a reason why I don’t eat cold yogurt in winter, although this topping was warm.

We both went out for a 1 mile walk after lunch to get rid of the work grumps.  It was sunny at least and above freezing, so not a bad walk 😀

John did turn up the thermostat.  We now keep the house at 67 during the day. Good thing I have my fleece blanket.  I never notice at night when we turn our temp down to 58  because I get so hot.  I wish I could even out my body temp to be warmer during the day and cooler at night.

Lattes today with my constant companion.

Foot rest kitteh.  I like it better when she lays there rather than in my lap while I am working.

Ground turkey was finally back at the store.  We don’t buy the corporate meat and for some reason, the ‘non-corporate’ turkey has not been around lately. Probably something to do with supply, I imagine.  Anyway, I was happy to have an old standby back for dinner 😀

It was nice to get out tonight for a break.  It’s cold, but you get cabin fever sometimes.

I need to ride the bike trainer for about 15 more minutes.  I have been striving for 45 minutes of exercise each day with 2 to 3 lifting sessions a week.  I walked for 1/2 an hour today, so need to get that last bit in.  I am seriously thinking of getting some uber winter gear and getting  the bike on the road early.  I just need to work up the nerve LOL!

I can just see you lori…an eskimo going down the rode on her bicycle! LOL! We keep it 63 during the day and turn off the heat at night but ofcourse we are not as cold as you…we avg. 30’s at night but when i wake up the thermometer in the house usually reads like 59 so we end up about the same temp as you in the house at night……i cannot sleep hot!
    Hugs! deb

Our overnight lows are around 0, so we can’t turn the heat any lower or our pipes would freeze. Plus John isn’t lucky enough to be perimenopausal and he gets cold at night as it is 😀

Those are some major icicles!!! We haven’t had any for years but they always fascinate me to see them in person. However, since I’m running outdoors, I’d rather not see them this winter…

I say: try to get on the bike early this season. It’s what you love doing most.

I’m the same like you with breakfast and lunch. I don’t like eating the same for a couple of days. I don’t cook dinner in advance either, I just make sure the meals we have on workdays are ready within 30 minutes. You can cook a lot of dishes in 30 minutes. I am going to make double portions of some WW meals the next weeks for those days where I’m tired and don’t want to cook. At least I can eat something healthy instead of grapping fast food.

The icicles are beautiful. It’s been to warm for this time of year here but I understand it’s getting colder as of tomorrow night. Don’t look forward to that 🙂

Have a nice day my friend.

We are supposed to get to 40 today, but I don’t see that happening.

I don’t mind having leftovers for dinner (in fact it makes life easy), but I am just not used to them for breakfast. I guess that is a little weird LOL!

    Those icicles are HUGE!

I mostly eat the same dishes day in day out. I only vary the lunch plus my snacks/treats. It’s partly because I’m single and am forced to buy big packs of everything when I shop. Life is so unfair for singles. 🙂

The foot rest kitteh looks like she wants to get back into(?) your lap!!

I love seeing the cool temps you keep in your house. We do the same and most people think we are NUTS! Our house is big and OLD (like yours) so not well insulated and even in a warmer climate, utility bills would be out the roof if we kept the whole house warmer, plus I can’t stand being hot ANY time of the day or night. We have a small space heater that I use in the den and kitchen which are pretty much the only two rooms occupied during the day. Hope today is a better work day for both of you!!

Yeah, our bills would be really high if we didn’t keep the heat down. Plus, we have the shop to keep heated as well, although we keep it lower than the house when we aren’t working out there.

I do love my new heated fleece throw!

We’ll put our house up to 70 while we’re home but if we get really cold we go downstairs and put on our little gas fireplace. That really saves us when it gets bitter cold although it does mean the rest of the house gets cold since the heat goes up enough to shut down the thermostat. I feel for you with the hot at night thing. I’ve always been a hot sleeper – thought it would go away with menopause but nope. It’s hard too because Mr. Helen is always cold!

As much as you love biking, I say invest in the gear – you’re worth it!

We are stupid. We keep the house at 68 all day – and we’re only home from 4pm until we go to bed around 10. We need to program the thermostat. No reason to keep it that warm to heat the air! When I lived in my apt and heat was free, I’d keep it around 73. It was wonderful 🙂

Pixie love!!!! Those icicles look way too cold for me although I grew up in that weather! 😉 It has been cold for CA this winter – really cold for us & we do not use the heat so the heated blanket is my friend! Like you Lori when I was having night sweats I always wondered why not during the day when I needed them & no heated blanket! 🙂

As you know from reading my blog, I can (and sometimes DO) eat the same meals for an entire week. 🙂

I hear you on the cabin fever. I like working from home, but I make it a point to get out at some point during the day, even if it means loading up the laptop and going to the library to work for a while.

58 at night?! I freeze with anything in the house below 67. I guess I truly am a southern girl!

Thanks for the Bourbon Chicken recipe from last post. I got all the ingredients to try that this week. Looks so yummy!

    1. Lori Post author

That’s what flannel sheets are for 😀

We did enjoy that bourbon chicken. A little more heat would make it just right.

  11. Tami @Nutmeg Notebook

Sorry you had a difficult work day but it sounds like the walk outside helped! We keep our daytime temperature at 69 and turn off the heat at night.

I love leftovers even for breakfast! I eat yogurt all year long but then it doesn’t get as cold where I live and that does make a difference.

Those icicles are spectacular. The child in me would want to break a couple off, say “en guarde” and have a sword fight with someone. silly… Pixie looks “pensive” in that shot, wouldn’t it be great to know what she was thinking. Hope you and John have better workdays today Lori! Take care.

Somehow I’ve lost a day. I hope it’s Wednesday because I plan on only going to school 2 more days this week, ha:)
