Healthy Heart Weekend 2/15 – 2/17

It’s time!!  February will be the 3rd annual Blogger’s Healthy Heart Weekend!  Yay!  I have fun doing this every year.

If you want to see last year’s results click here.  For 2011 click here

On this weekend, do some kind of activity on 1 of the 3 days of Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.  You don’t have to have a blog in order to join, either.

This weekend is all just about getting moving. If you want to walk, that’s fine. Elliptical bunny? Knock yourself out! Take a long bike ride? Go for it! Play date with the family? Have a blast!  Slinging the barbell around counts, too :D  The only stipulation is that you need to take a picture of yourself before, during, or after your event and send it to me. I will post the pictures in a wrap up post. Get creative, too! You don’t have to have your face in the photo if you don’t want to, so have fun with it!

Date: Just after Valentine’s Day, of course! February 15th, 16th, and 17th! Feel free to chose Friday, Saturday, or Sunday to complete your event.

Activity: Your choice!

Distance: Your choice. I know many of you are training for an event, so you can use whatever distance fits in with your training plan. It’s all about a healthy heart, not a specific distance or time.

After you complete your event, please email me the photo and what you did at javaqueen01 (at) yahoo.com .

Please post below if you would like to participate and what you plan to do! Feel free to post about it on your blog if you have one and see how many people we can get to participate! You may grab the logo above and link as well. Last year we had 50 sign ups, but only 36 actually did it.  Let’s get at least that many this year!

I will be giving away some prizes, too.   One prize will be some coffee roasted by yours truly. Or some local tea if the person selected doesn’t drink coffee (GASP!!).  I will update this post as we go along with the other prizes.  I got a bit distracted this week with my bathroom demo.  And since I am hosting – anyone in the world is eligible for the prize drawings!

It’s actually really fun doing a virtual event.  I loved getting in the emails all weekend with photos and what people did. Let’s get a lot of people involved this year!

I’ll start us off! I will be riding the trainer for sure. If we get a thaw, maybe I’ll even take the bike outside (hahaha!)

Our windchill was -5 when I left for work this morning. As I pulled off my street, a biker went past me. I’m not kidding. Brrrrrrrrr!

  2. Sara

I’m in! I’ll be doing a run, likely on the TM. Distance is to be determined, but at least 8 miles 🙂

  3. Kim

Probably a 4 mile walk. If icy sidewalks it will be 20 miles on the stationary bike. If above 50° a real bike ride.

Part of the SPARK group on FB and one of our members recommended your event. Since I’m currently working with a cardiologist to figure out my tachycardia (and low bp), I figure I’m a good candidate to take part in this! 😀 I will probably walk and since Sea World will be open by then, I will plan to walk around the park a couple of times. That usually gets me up to my 10,000 steps! 🙂 Will put it on my calendar and the logo on my blog.

Oh, and since I also deal with fibrous cystic disease in the breasts, I am one of those weirdos who avoids coffee/caffeine! GASP! 😉

There is such a glorious thing as decaf-coffee though. 😉

Good for you on 10,000 steps a day. When I have a pedometer on but am not actively trying, it’s amazing how little I walk unless I push myself. It makes a difference!

I’m not sure if it counts as an “event” but I will be donating blood on the 15th. Other than that, I’ll probably keep my normal gym routine. Gotta be cruise-ready by March!
Hope the reno is going well, Lori!

I will be running, either a 5K on my own or in a race. Haven’t decided about the race yet and haven’t signed up yet.

  7. Sharon

I’m totally in. I will hike at least 8 miles somewhere in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. If weather prevents getting to the park, I’ll do the same distance on a trail somewhere near home. (P.S. I want the coffee – it’s GOOD!)

  8. Georgia

I will join in! Mostly it will be walking either outside if the weather is decent or on my treadmill. I am training for a 5k in April so maybe some running will be thrown in there, too!!

  9. Leah

HOORAY!!!!!! 😀 I was looking forward to this.

I’ll be back to specify exactly what I’m going to do (thinking of talking my kids into doing something this year..we’ll see)

Oh, and I totally understand about crying over the cat. 🙂

I did 5k last year, and then did 5 more 5k events. This year I will do 5 MILES for this event, training to accomplish 10k events this year!

I am thinking a super-long walk like 10 miles, to Glens Falls and back, weather permitting. Otherwise, a 90 minute bike trainer ride.

I’m in! I just got back to the Y and will do a treadmill workout and deep water aquafit on the Friday.

This sounds great! I’m not sure what I’ll be doing (probably walking, but I’ll see if I can come up with some other activities.)
Of course, Friday is my Zumba day!

  16. Debbie

Great idea! Count me in! I found your blog through “Journey to Fit.” I’m in training for a half marathon and tomorrow is our long run so the timing is perfect. We’ll also be doing yoga and spin this weekend but will probably use my long run. Don’t have a blog but you can find me and all my foolishness on Instagram @debalvarez. Feel free to follow…

Well….I rejoined Weight Watchers last weekend and while my eating this week has been good, I’ve been ignoring the voice in my head yelling at me to hit the gym. So this Friday evening and Sunday morning, I’ll be hitting it. I don’t know what I’ll do yet, but it will likely be mostly cardio. I’d like to build up some endurance on the rowing machine so we’ll see how long I can go this weekend 🙂

What a fun idea! I will be “wogging” (run/walk) 8 miles Sunday morning with my Moms Run This Town group!
