Bagels and vanity ideas

I can’t believe it is Wednesday night already!  This day went by really fast. We won’t mention how fast January went by!

If you want to read some of my thoughts on maintenance, I did a guest post for Lisa’s blog today. She is another maintainer, so check her out if you haven’t already!

It was so warm today.  If the roads weren’t so wet, I would have biked to breakfast today :D  We were back at North Country today for bagels since we didn’t go there last week.

Sometimes I think I should buy bagels and have them at home, but then I think 2 bagels a week is probably enough for me.  It makes them more of a treat that way.

Work was really spotty today.  You can tell when the end of the pay period is because *everyone* works to get lines in and you kind of have to be a vulture for files.  I usually have to work some after dinner every other Wednesday and today was no exception.

Lunchtime involved a new item:

I think they over flavor these. At least for me. Can you say dragon breath?

I even changed it up and had broccoli with lunch instead of dinner.  I love to live on the edge.

While it was slow with work I did some more work in the bathroom.  Some stuff is on hold because we have to wait until this weekend to pick up drywall, which slows down the work since I can’t do much without a wall! I have enough dry wall to do a couple of the smaller areas and I have been patching all the cracked grout in the tub surround to get ready for the tile refinishing this weekend.

We changed our mind on the vanity.  This is the one we are getting:

This will work with our current pipe system. Inside each door is another drawer, so this vanity actually has 4 drawers instead of 3.  Now there are 3 for me and 1 for John!  This is a 48 inch vanity, by the way. The top will be a Stone Effects in Capri. It is more antimicrobial than granite (which we also looked at).  We will be picking this up on Saturday.

Here is a picture of the sample of the faux cork plank, plus possible paint colors.

I am kind of stuck on that metallic gold color (Martha Stewart). I may forgo the stripes and just do the lower wall in gold.  I can’t wait to get in the big stuff and really get to work. It’s a lot of crap work right now, patching, cleaning, cutting my fingers, etc.  That not-so-fun part of rehab.

Are you guys tired of the rehab yet? I am obsessed.  It’s even keeping me from sleeping because I keep thinking about it. Tongue out

Dinner was standard baked potato with BBQ chicken.  Are you tired of seeing that yet? LOL

It’s really filling and I ended up saving the grapes to eat later (which I am eating as I type this, actually).

Tomorrow is my monthly wrap up, already!  I need to think of some goals for February, too.

Whoa, you should have warned me about that lunch broccoli. I wasn’t prepared for that. 🙂

LOVE the new vanity and the counter! Not sure about the gold with the cork, but that’s the beauty of paint. It’s the easiest (and least expensive) thing to fix. LOL

(I had bbq chicken with roasted new potatoes tonight, but of course, mine weren’t touching.

That’s why I love paint. If you don’t like it, so easy to change. I am worried with the new vanity and floor that I will have too much beige-type colors going on, so the gold might liven it up a bit. Or not.

Thanks for sharing your wisdom on my blog today. 😉

I haven’t tried that flavor of sausage but I tried the applewood smoked and it was delicious.

I may have to avoid your blog on Wednesdays when I go gluten-free for February. Those bagels look sooo amazing.

The more drawers, the better – I like the countertop for the vanity, too. I’m not a gold person (that would explain all the brushed stainless in my house, lol) – are you going to do oiled bronze for the fixtures? That would go nicely with it, I think.

Your keeping the bagels outside of the home is what I do with certain things…sure, I pay more for them, but I don’t pay for them in other ways, so it’s worth it.

I would like oil rubbed bronze, but all our other fixtures are silver, so I don’t know if that will go very well. Not that you have to be matchy-matchy or anything. I haven’t looked at fixtures yet. Guess that will be on my next of 1000 trips to the home improvement store 😀

No not bored yet. I like this vanity better than the other, it’s more modern.

I don’t buy certain foods either because I know once I have them I keep eating them.

    Great post on Lisa’s blog.

John really liked this vanity. I am not so modern with my style. I like more classic, but this one is sort of in between.

I love that faux cork floor! I’ve always wanted to try cork..is it a pergo style floor? I really like the gold paint, too. Can’t wait to see the finished product!

It’s actually vinyl plank flooring. A new product. It’s a floating floor like laminate, but flexible like vinyl with overlapping plank seams.

NO more bagels in this house & like you, a treat although I don’t have them much anymore since I have found some breads I really like AND the bagel shop I like is a bit of a drive… I have to be going that way & my errands don’t take me there that often.

    LOVE the new vanity!!!!

I love good bread so if I have good bagels in the house, the only way for me not to eat them every single day is to put them in the freezer. Therefore, I rarely buy them and keep them as an every once in a while treat.

I’m not tired of your renovation, I’m fascinated by it! I happen to love the gold up against the floor – I hope you at least try a section of wall to see if you like it!

I love the Al Fresco chicken sausages!

It’s fun watching your remodel and seeing what you’re picking out for the new stuff. Keep the info coming! 🙂

I don’t steam it. I pan sautee it in a teaspoon of coconut oil. Plus I am picky and use baby broccoli florets. They are the best!

  9. Ali @ Peaches and Football

We don’t have that flavor of Al Fresco sausages locally – and even though we eat them fairly often, I’m not sure they are my favorite. I like the Smart Chicken brand a bit better. The andouille is spicy and Ben loves that.

I would be just as excited about colors and styles as you. I remember how it was just picking out the paint color for the family room when we moved in. So much fun!!

I think you’ve got a very classic look going on there with your reno.

I always want your baked potato when I see it. Maybe I’ll do that tonight!

I have yet to find a “fully cooked chicken sausage product” that isn’t just horribly over-seasoned. Laughing out loud at dragon breath! I bought something similar at Costco, cooked a couple and they were inedible. I returned the uncooked ones and the cooked ones with one bite eaten and got my money back. Gah! The uncooked chicken sausages from Whole Foods and Fresh Market are always delicious, so I think I’ll stick with those.

I’ve been reading your blog for about a year now and always wondered how you cooked your broccoli (which was just answered) and your recipe for your barbecue chicken you use to top your potato.
Love the finishes you’ve picked out for the bath!!

    1. Lori Post author

The chicken is just cooked chicken however I did it that week (grilled, pan cooked, baked). I chop it up and heat it up with BBQ sauce. That’s my super secret recipe 😀

Renov. is coming along. All that hard work, but you’re doing it on your own. Makes it all that much more worth it.

I just bought P28 Bagels. They are a protein rich bagel, made with protein powder. Not bad when toasted but a bit on the chewy side if eaten right from the bag.

Love the new vanity! You are doing a great job with the bathroom.
You’re right there are certain foods it’s better to eat out and not bring them into the house.
Had some broccoli tonight and it made me thing of you 🙂
