Bagels and soap

Finally coming up for air.

I love the feedback we are getting from the AIM posts!  If you have any topic you want us to give our thoughts on, please share.  It’s good to see how similar and yet different our views are on the same topic.

Bagel Wednesday!  It will be a while before biking to breakfast yet:

30degrees

Soon, though… soon.

Deliciousness!

It’s been hectic around here with work, plus I am doing another soap order for a customer. She orders infrequently and it is always a large order.  Bye-bye dining room table for a week and general mess making.

This is about half of the order.  Each of these logs cuts into about 20 bars of soap.  It does make the house smell good, though.

Lunch was some mac and cheese that John made on Monday.  We used Alton Brown’s stovetop mac and cheese recipe.  This was on the menu plan for this week, as per monthly goal.

There wasn’t a lot, so I actually had half a protein bar after this.

On the fun front, my bathroom remodel has been entered into This Old House contest for reader remodels! You can see the pics here.  Unfortunately, it is open to contractor work and DIY, so there is a lot of competition. At least it is divided into separate rooms and not lumping all remodels in one category.  I don’t hold much hope, but you can’t win if you don’t enter, right?

Work was a little slow, so I got a lot of walking in today.  Almost 40 degrees out, but somewhat breezy, so it felt colder.  Paycheck deposited and extra walking to the tune of 3.5 miles today!

I was glad to have this when I got back inside:

We ended up going out for a quick dinner tonight. I’ve been cooped up doing this soap order all week and John will be out the next 2 nights, so we decided to go out.  We hit up Dickies

I had the baked potato with barbecue.  These things are like footballs and I probably ate about a third of the potato (all of the meat, though).  Wish places would serve normal portions.

They had a coloring contest going on and these were adorable.

We stopped to pick up kitty litter and a new laser pointer toy for Pixie. Those things break easily, probably because I buy the cheap ones…

Anyway, I have to go back to work tonight and it is going to be a long one.  At least I can change into jammies and do the work.  😉

    Lori,

A quick question I forgot to ask regarding your AIMS post. You mentioned a scale that only tells you gains/losses – could you tell me what brand and model? Sounds fabulous

It’s a Mary Lou’s Weigh (the gymnast). I got it a few years ago to review and I like to use it. The website is here, http://www.marylousweigh.com/, although it is down right now. I know there is another scale out there called a Zero Scale or something like that. It does the same thing, but shows the number of pounds up or down on the screen.

Dickie’s–we have one right here in town and I’ve been wanting to try it but kinda afraid–know what I mean? I didn’t think about them having baked potatoes! That looks fabulous.

Wow, that soap looks like a lot of work—hope it pays well. They look so perfect.

It pays pretty well. If I could sell a lot more, I would just do this and not my current job 😀

We have a Dickies right behind our neighborhood – in fact it’s on my running route every Thursday. I’ve only eaten there once, though. Their breakfast tacos are killer.

The soap looks so pretty, especially the marbled-looking tan bricks. What scents are you making?

This Dickie’s doesn’t have breakfast, probably a good thing.

I’ll have to do a list of the soaps. I am making 14 different kinds.

I didn’t know they had Dickey’s that far north! For some reason, I thought they were a southern chain. Maybe because the only ones I’ve ever seen have been on road trips in Mississippi. 🙂 They have good bbq chicken.

I’ve only been able to see your remodel and one other (I can’t figure out if there are any others), but as an Advanced Level HGTV Viewer, I can assure you that you’ve got the other one beat, hands down. The barnwood in their bath was a nice touch, but that’s all that grabbed me. Liked how you worked in to the description that you were remodeling an OLD house. 🙂

That soap is beautiful! I had no idea you were a soap maker – your skills are amazing!

We have a Dickey’s here but I have never been there to eat but we did have some of their food at a party one time.

I wrote. Feature on a soap maker a while back. It was very interesting! She also makes lip balm and gave me samples… I am hooked.

    The BBQ potato looks fantastic!.

I don’t sell the soap anymore. I actually need to make it for *us* to use some time LOL! I used to have a soap shop, but now only make the soap for this particular customer a couple times a year.

Haven’t seen you guys making soap in a while. I like seeing all the different colors. 🙂 You should give some to your blog readers… 😉

Wow entering in the remodel contest is a GREAT idea! You’re right, you can’t win if you don’t enter and you never know how many people really know about these things either. Good luck!

I keep thinking I need to do soap for the Healthy Hearth Weekend and then I never get it done before that. It takes a few weeks to cure and I am just not organized enough LOL!

Love the soap and would be interested in the scents you make and also the ingredients you use. I’m pretty picky about the soap we use and buy from a vendor at our farmer’s market. Sounds like you could make a profit selling through the blog if you wanted to!!
